  • This paper investigated the symptoms of taxi drivers' physical self-consciousness. As the subjects for the study, 374 taxi drivers participated in the survey for three months, and its result showed as follows:1. In the items of the physical symptoms, the eye's fatigue was indicated as a greatest complaint, and the corporate-taxi drivers showed a higher complaint rate than the owner-taxi drivers. 2. The survey also indicated that taxi drivers over 50 years old showed the highest complaining rate of eye's fatigue, shoulder pain, loins pain, and severe headache. Feelings of burning on empty stomach was the highest complaint factor in the age group between 30 and 39 years old, and pain and burning feelings in eyes in the age group between 20 and 29 years old.3. In the study of the complaining rate of physical symptoms by working hours, the nighttime driers complained of their self-consciousness symptoms of leg and knee pain, shoulder pain, benumbed legs, and these drivers also showed a relatively high complaint rate resulting from the responsibility of living expenses.

  • To estimate a proper fleet size of taxi, a daily archived tachograph was analyzed for both corporate taxi and owner-driver taxi. Mathematical model to estimate a desirable number of taxi was developed using city's characteristics of Pyeong-taek city case. This model could be used as coefficient of determination of city's characteristics model(revised R square) was 0.970. a total amount of taxi number in the future for the city of Pyeong-taek. As a result, the model produced a proper fleet size of Pyeong-taek city in the future as 1,794 taxis by 2014, which was higher in number by 214 taxis, compared to 2009. Also, the model of the service rate, considering operation condition, was used to analyze a total number of taxies. As a result, the model showed a total number of taxis as 1,224 taxis by 2014, which is lower in number by 356 taxies, compared to 2009. It is desirable to use both city's characteristics model and the service rate model to estimate a total number of taxis in conclusion. As a result of adopting average value from two model, the model produced a total supply plan of Pyeong-taek city as 1,509 taxis by 2014, which is smaller than in number by 71 taxis, compared to 2009.

  • This study analyzes the relative efficiences through satisfaction on taxi services of thirty-one cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province. The DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) is used to measure efficiencies on the privately owned taxies and the corporate taxies respectively. Efficiency in the DEA is measured relative to the highest observed performance rather than against some average. Pyeongtaek, Pocheon, Osan, Yangpyeong, and Gapyeong have the highest efficiency in the private owned taxies. And Pyeongtaek, Pocheon, Osan, and Gapyeong have the highest one in the corporate taxies. These cities and counties have the ability to use less resources for equal efficiency relative to others. Rank-sum test proves that there is no statistical difference in efficiency between the privately owned taxies and the corporation owned taxies.

  • In the urban and rural complex, taxis move from downtown to rural areas for business purposes, and operate a combined surcharge system that preserves losses when they back to downtown. However, complaints related to the abolition of the compound surcharge system are increasing due to deformed operation that does not fit the purpose of the system. When the combinedsurcharge system is abolished, the taxi industry can be hit hard by the decrease in profits, and local governments are inevitable to support it. However, it is difficult to set the size of the subsidy considering the decrease of actual income. This study is to estimate the income reduction in the abolition of the combined surcharge system by scientific and objective method by analyzing the DTG data and the sales data collected from the digital driving recorder installed in the corporate taxi of the urban and rural complex area (e.g., Tongyeong city). This study is meaningful in that it used DTG data to solve the current issues in the real region and suggested the use of new DTG data.
