A coated wire ion selective electrode for nitrate (nitrate-CWE_ was constructed using epoxy resin, ion exchanger and plasticizer as a polymer membrane. It's stility, the composition of a polymer membrane, the response characteristics, the selectivity were examined and applied to the environmental analysis. The nitrate-CWE was prepared using a copper wire, wihch was coated with epoxy resin being incorporated with the nitrate ion exchanger and plasticizer. The best composition of the polymer membrane for the nitrate-CWE was obtained by mixing epoxy resin, ion exchanger and plasticizer in the ratio of 2:1:0.4. The potential (56.3$\pm$0.5 mV) of stick form nitrate-CWE in this composition was close to that (59.2 mV) of Nernstian response. The detection limit for nitrate ion were found to the about $6 \times 10^{-5}M$ and the useful pH was 2.5 $\sim$ 10.3. Furthermore, the selectivity of iodide and perchrorate for the nitrage-CWE was also much improved compared with that for a liquid membrane nitrate electrode. The nitrate-CWE was used to determind $NO_x$ in stack gas. The results were in good agreement with those obtained either by electrode method or by the improved NEDA method within a relative error of 4.0%.
Copper oxide, CuO, are very important components include of high temperature super- conductors, and widely used. The properties of sintered materials were affected by the size and shape of copper oxide with starting materials in the solid-phase reaction. A homogeneous and fine CuO powder was prepared by thermal decomposition of the copper oxalate precursor. Copper oxalate was precipitated by the addition of copper nitrate solution to an oxalic acid solution. The influence of various factors such as temperature, pH, concentration as well as ultrasonic irradiation in the solution were investigated.

Studies on the molecular construction and structures of $M(NO_3)_2$ (M = Cu(II), Ni(II)) complexes with 1,2-bis(dimethyl-3-pyridylsilyl)ethane (L) have been carried out. Formation of each molecular skeleton appears to be primarily associated with a suitable combination of bidentate N-donors of L and coordinating nature of octahedral metal(II) ions: [$Cu(NO_3)_2(L)_2$] yields a 2-dimensional sheet structure consisting of 44-membered $Cu_4L_4$ skeleton whereas $[Ni(L)_2(H_2O)_2](NO_3)_2$ produces an interpenetrated 3-dimensional structure consisting of 66-membered cyclohexanoid ($M_6L_6$) skeleton. The Cu(II) ion prefers nitrate whereas the Ni(II) ion prefers water molecules as the fifth and the sixth ligands.
As to the reflection electrode of LCD (liquid crystal displays), silver-copper-gold alloy (hereafter, it is called as ACA (Ag98%, Cu1%, Au1%)) is an effective material of which weathering resistance can be improved more compared with pure silver. However, there is a problem that gold remains on the substrate as residues when ACA is etched in cerium ammonium nitrate solution or phosphoric acid. Gold can not be etched in these etchants as readily as the other two alloying elements. Gold residue has actually been removed physically by brushing etc. This procedure causes damage to the display elements. Another etchant of iodine/potassium iodide generally known as one of the gold etchants can not give precise etch pattern because of remarkable difference in etching rates among silver, copper and gold. The purpose of this research is to obtain a practical etchant for ACA alloy. The results are as follows. The cyanogen complex salt of gold generates when cyanide is used as the etchant, in which gold dissolves considerably. Oxygen reduction is important as the cathodic reaction in the dissolution of gold. A new etchant of sodium cyanide / potassium ferricyanide whose cathodic reduction is stronger than oxygen, can give precise etch patterns in ACA alloy swiftly at room temperature.
A new tridentate ligand incorporating a monoxime and thiosemi-carbozone moieties has been synthesized. Its copper(II), nickel(II) and palladium(II) complexes have been prepared and characteirzed by physical and spectral methods. Elemental analyses and spectroscopic data of the metal complexes are consistent with the formation of a mononuclear copper(II) complex and binuclear complex with both nickel(II) and palladium(II). In the copper(II) complex the fourth coordination site is occupied by nitrate ion. In the binculear complexes the fourth coordination site is occupied by the deprotonated oxime oxygen of the ligand coordinated to the other metal.

The performance of electrolytic processes using copper and catalyzed electrodes for enhanced nutrient removal with various catalyzers and combinations of electrodes was evaluated. The catalyzed electrodes removed more ammonia nitrogen than the copper electrode, but higher ammonia removal was achieved using a Pt/Ti anode. On the other hand, electrolysis using the Pt/Cu anode consumed less energy and cost less. During electroreduction, nitrate was better removed by a pair of copper electrodes than by the catalyzed electrodes. During electrolysis of synthetic wastewater, ammonia removal not only increased owing to direct oxidation at the anode, but was also influenced by indirect oxidation at the cathode. Platinum-coated copper and titanium cathodes actively produced oxidizers and thus removed more ammonia than a pure metal cathode. Although phosphorus was removable irrespective of the type of catalyzer, electrocoagulation using the copper electrode achieved complete removal of phosphorus in a period of less than 10 min.
This study examined how to produce new methods of copper (II) sulfate crystallization by using a small-scale chemistry tool such as small-scale reaction surface and petri dish. The making of copper(II) sulfate is included in the 5th grade elementary science textbooks. Various copper(II) compounds were reacted with a 2 M sulfuric acid solution. The result of this study is as follows: Seven small amounts of copper(II) compounds were reacted with a few drops of 2 M sulfuric acid solution at room temperature to make a copper(II) sulfate crystal of triclinic shape. Using the petri dish method, a copper(II) sulfate crystal could be identified within one hour of reacting copper(II) hydroxide, copper(II) carbonate, copper(II) nitrate, copper(II) perchlorate, cupric(II) formate from a few drops of 2 M sulfuric acid solution at room temperature. When using the lap top method for copper(II) perchlorate, cupric formate, a proper crystal could be identified within one hour as well. SSC methods were used for the first time to make a copper sulfate crystal via chemical reaction. We can make a copper(II) sulfate crystal using a simple method which is easier, safer and saves time in class. And since a small quantity of chemicals are being used in SSC chemical methods, waste is greatly reduced. This lessens the amount of environmental problems caused by the experiment. This can be helpful in preserving nature. In addition the cost of chemical and laboratory equipment is greatly reduced because it uses material that we find in our daily lives. There will be continued study of small-scale methods such as improvement of new programs, study and training of teachers, and securing SSC tools. I would like to suggest such as SSC methods are applicable in elementary School Science. I would like it to become a wide spread program.
This study presents a method of preparing $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ ceramic and chlorine doping in it for the purpose of Jc enhancement us ins sol-gel process.Tetramethylammonium-hydroxide and pottasium carbonate solution were added to the aqueous solution of Yttrium nitrate, Barium chloride and Copper nitrate for pH control as well as forming hydroxy-carbonate precipitation. Instead of Barium nitrate, Barium chloride was used for doping chloride impurities in the specimen. The resulted materal showed good high Tc-superconductivity after calcination. Tc and Jc value are 92 K and 120.8 $A/cm^2$ respectively.
