  • The optimal design of two stage evaporation & absorption system which is related to the large temperature difference system was investigated numerically in the absorption refrigeration system. The concentrations at inlet & oulet of absorber are 62.9% and 56.9%, but in two stage absorption system the values are 62.2% and 56.2%. Therefore strong solution & weak solution became diluted than the standard value. The amount of weak solution circulation can be reduced in absorption refrigeration system, and the sensible heat load is more reduced to enhance the COP of system. As UAR is increased, COP becomes larger, and this means the role of top section is more important than bottom section in two stage evaporation & absorption system. But the increase of COP becomes slower at 0.7 of UAR ratio. The performance of Type2 is higher than Type1 in COP with the flow direction of cooling waters. This phenomena is due to the active absorption of vapor -absorption & lower temp. cooling water is more effective. The pressure at bottom section becomes higher & that at top section becomes lower and therefore the circulation rate can be diminished more.

  • In order to investigate the heating performance of multi-heat pump applying an inverter compressor, the experiment on heat pump with 3 indoor units was performed under the heating standard and heating low-temperature conditions. The performance data of heat pump with 3 indoor units were measured by the multi-psychrometric calorimeter. The operation characteristics and the behavior of the refrigerant cycle of the heat pump with 3 indoor units were understood from the heating capacity, heating COP, and P-h diagram by indoor-unit combination. The present experimental results show that the operating load and performance of the multi-heat pump depends on the indoor-unit combination. The heating capacity and heating COP of the low temperature condition were smaller than those of the standard one. Also the refrigerant cycles on indoor-unit combination were analyzed by using P-h diagram.

  • This study experimentally investigates the performance improvement of the heat pump by adopting the hot gas bypass method and using the internal heat exchanger according to the automatic defrost test conditions of ISO 5151 This study compares the hot gas bypass method with the time step method, and investigates effect on outdoor coil fan speed when the hot gas of compressor outlet enter outdoor coil inlet after the frost formation. The tests were made for the fan speeds of the outdoor coil controlled at 90, 60 and 30% of the normal speed together with the case of the stationary fan. The performance of the heat pump is evaluated by variables such as COP, heat capacity, and the average COP during the 210 minutes heating mode. Results show that average COP of the hot gas bypass mettled is $2.2{\sim}6%$ higher than that of the time step method. When the outdoor coil fan speed is 60% (780 rpm) of the normal speed, it shows the best COP and heating capacity.

  • GHX (Geothermal Heat Exchanger) design which determines the performance and initial cost is the most important factor in ground source heat pump system. Performance of GHX is strongly dependent on the thermal resistance of soil, grout and pipe. In general, GHX design is based on the static simulation program. In this study, dynamic simulation has been peformed to analyze the variation of system performance for various GHX parameters. Line-source theory has been applied to calculate the variation of ground temperature. The averaged weather data measured during a 10-year period $(1991\sim2000)$ in Seoul is used to calculate cooling and heating loads of a building with a floor area of $100m^2$. The simulation results indicate that thermal properties of borehole play significant effect on the overall performance. Change of grout thermal conductivity from 0.4 to $3.0W/(m^{\circ}C)$ increases COP of heating by 9.4% and cooling by 17%. Change of soil thermal conductivity from 1.5 to $4.0W/(m^{\circ}C)$ increases COP of heating by 13.3% and cooling by 4.4%. Change of GHX(length from 100 to 200 m increases COP of heating by 10.6% and cooling by 10.2%. To study long term performance, dynamic simulation has been conducted for a 20-year period and the result showed that soil temperature decreases by $1^{\circ}C$, heating COP decreases by 2.7% and cooling COP decreases by 1.4%.

  • Background: Patients with low back pain (LBP) experience misalignments in the center of pressure (COP) and muscle imbalances due to frequent onesided posture adjustments to avoid pain. Objectives: To identify the effects of Squat Exercises with Vertical Whole-Body Vibration on the Center of Pressure and Trunk Muscle Activity. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: Thirty LBP patients with an imbalance in the COP were sampled and randomly assigned to an experimental group of 15 patients who under went an intervention involving squat exercises with vertical WBV and a control group of 15 patients who were treated via a walking intervention. As pretests before the interventions, the subjects' COP was identified by measuring their stability index (ST), and erector spinae, rectus abdominis, transverse abdominis, gluteus medius muscle activity was analyzed by determining the % reference voluntary contraction (%RVC) value using surface electromyography while sit to stand. After four weeks, a post test was conducted to remeasure the same variables using the same methods. Results: Statistically significant differences were found in the ST (P<.01) and trunk muscle (P<.05, P<.001) in the experimental group before and after the intervention. In terms of the differences between the left- and right-side (RL) muscle activity, only the transverse abdominis (TrA) and gluteus medius (GM) exhibited statistically significant increase (P<.05). A comparison of the groups showed statistically significant differences in the TrA with respect to muscle activity (P<.05) and in the RLTrA and RLGM in terms ofthe difference between left- and right-side muscle activity (P<.01). Conclusion: Squat exercises with vertical WBV produced effective changes in the COP of patients with LBP by reducing muscle imbalances through the delivery of a uniform force. In particular, strengthening the TrA and reducing an imbalance in the GM were determined to be important factors in improving the COP.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of rotational preference on body stability based on COP and EMG analysis in an quiet standing after turn in the left and right directions. The subjects of this study were 16 subjects with a high lateral preference for the right hand and foot. The subjects of this study were 16 subjects with high unilateral preference for the right hand and foot, and three rotational direction conditions (QS: quiet standing, LT: 10 turns on the left, RT: 10 turns on the right) were performed. In order to evaluate the stability in an quiet standing after turning, the results were derived and analyzed using a COP plate and an EMG. As a result of the study, LT and RT were larger than QS for all COP variables, but there was no difference according to the direction of turning. In EMG, RT showed larger muscle activity than the QS according to the rotational direction in left and right gastrocnemius. In conclusion, although all subjects had a high right lateral preference, there was no effect of rotational preference in COP, and gastrocnemius showed the effect of rotational preference.

  • PURPOSE: This study examined the center of pressure (COP) and ground reaction force (GRF) characteristics during each task-oriented sit-to-stand in stroke patients. METHODS: Twenty stroke subjects were included in this study. The task consisted of sit-to-stand (SS), sit-to-stand for reaching (SR), and sit-to-stand for walking (SW). The response time, COP, and GRF were measured during each task. The COP and GRF data were obtained using a two-force plate. The force plates were placed on a chair (below the buttock) and floor (below the feet). RESULTS: Significant differences were observed between SS (1.48 ± .48 s) and SR (2.09 ± 0.82 s) and between SS and SW (2.27 ± .72 s) in the preparatory phase time during each sit-to-stand exercise (p = .002) and showed significant differences between SS (13.90 ± 6.44 cm) and SW (34.62 ± 39.38 cm) and between SR (16.14 ± 8.04 cm) and SW in the mediolateral COP range during each sit-to-stand exercise (p = .013). CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that more complex task-oriented sit-to-stand exercise requires a high-level motor programming process than a simple sit-to-stand task. Therefore, a variety of tasks-oriented sit-to-stand exercises will be useful training to achieve better ADL ability for stroke patients.

  • In this paper, we suggest fuzzy control with feedforward compensator of superheat to progress both energy saving and coefficient of performance(COP) in a variable speed refrigeration system. The capacity and superheat are controlled simultaneously and independently by an inverter and an electronic expansion valve respectively for saving energy and improving COP in the system. By adopting the fuzzy control. the controller design for the capacity and superheat is possible without depending on a dynamic model of the system. Moreover, the feedforward compensator of the superheat can eliminate influence of the interfering loop between capacity and superheat. Some experiments are conducted to design the appropriate fuzzy controller by an iteration manner. The results show that the proposed fuzzy controller with the compensator can establish good control performances for the complicated refrigeration system with inherent strong non-linearity.

  • To understand kinetic characteristics during the process of initation of gait from standing, from the visual cue to toe off of the stance limb, vertical ground reaction forces(GRF) and center of pressure(COP) during gait initation period were evaluate with two force platforms placed side by side in thirty two adults(young 16, elderly 16, each mean age 27.79 and 51.70 years) with no history of 7 neuromusculo-skeletal abnormality. Gaint initation period of swing and stance limbs, percentage of gait initiation period and ratio of the vertical forces to body weight at each peak of the vertical forces of both limbs, and also movement of net COP were measured and described. 2 groups, one of 16 young adults and another of 16 elderly adults, were compared statistically. These data showed the increase of initiation of gait period and the decrease of movement of net COP, nd also can now be used as a part of database when initation of gait in subjects with neuromusculoskeletal abnormalities need to be evaluated.
