Tire wear and defect are important factors for safe driving condition. These defects are generally inspected by some specialized experts or very expensive equipments such as stereo depth camera and depth gauge. In this paper, we propose tire safety vision inspector based on deep neural network (DNN). The status of tire wear is categorized into three: 'safety', 'warning', and 'danger' based on depth of tire tread. We propose an attention mechanism for emphasizing the feature of tread area. The attention-based feature is concatenated to output feature maps of the last convolution layer of ResNet-101 to extract more robust feature. Through experiments, the proposed tire wear classification model improves 1.8% of accuracy compared to the existing ResNet-101 model. For detecting the tire defections, the developed tire defect detection model shows up-to 91% of accuracy using the Mask R-CNN model. From these results, we can see that the suggested models are useful for checking on the safety condition of working tire in real environment.
China is a big country in animal fur industry. The total production and consumption of fur are increasing year by year. However, the recognition of fur in the fur production process still mainly relies on the visual identification of skilled workers, and the stability and consistency of products cannot be guaranteed. In response to this problem, this paper proposes a feature fusion-based animal fur recognition network on the basis of typical convolutional neural network structure, relying on rapidly developing deep learning techniques. This network superimposes texture feature - the most prominent feature of fur image - into the channel dimension of input image. The output feature map of the first layer convolution is inverted to obtain the inverted feature map and concat it into the original output feature map, then Leaky ReLU is used for activation, which makes full use of the texture information of fur image and the inverted feature information. Experimental results show that the algorithm improves the recognition accuracy by 9.08% on Fur_Recognition dataset and 6.41% on CIFAR-10 dataset. The algorithm in this paper can change the current situation that fur recognition relies on manual visual method to classify, and can lay foundation for improving the efficiency of fur production technology.

With the rapid advancement of technologies, need for different research fields where this technology can be used is also increasing. One of the most researched topic in computer vision is object detection, which has widely been implemented in various fields which include healthcare, video surveillance and education. The main goal of object detection is to identify and categorize all the objects in a target environment. Specifically, methods of object detection consist of a variety of significant techniq ues, such as image processing and patterns recognition. Anomaly detection is a part of object detection, anomalies can be found various scenarios for example crowded places such as subway stations. An abnormal event can be assumed as a variation from the conventional scene. Since the abnormal event does not occur frequently, the distribution of normal and abnormal events is thoroughly imbalanced. In terms of public safety, abnormal events should be avoided and therefore immediate action need to be taken. When abnormal events occur in certain places, real time detection is required to prevent and protect the safety of the people. To solve the above problems, we propose a modified YOLOv5 object detection algorithm by implementing dilated convolutional layers which achieved 97% mAP50 compared to other five different models of YOLOv5. In addition to this, we also created a simple mobile application to avail the abnormal event detection on mobile phones.
Defect detection is one of the key factors in fabric quality control. To improve the speed and accuracy of denim fabric defect detection, this paper proposes a defect detection algorithm based on cascading feature extraction architecture. Firstly, this paper extracts these weight parameters of the pre-trained VGG16 model on the large dataset ImageNet and uses its portability to train the defect detection classifier and the defect recognition classifier respectively. Secondly, retraining and adjusting partial weight parameters of the convolution layer were retrained and adjusted from of these two training models on the high-definition fabric defect dataset. The last step is merging these two models to get the defect detection algorithm based on cascading architecture. Then there are two comparative experiments between this improved defect detection algorithm and other feature extraction methods, such as VGG16, ResNet-50, and Xception. The results of experiments show that the defect detection accuracy of this defect detection algorithm can reach 94.3% and the speed is also increased by 1-3 percentage points.

Brain tumors are one of the most threatening malignancies for humans. Misdiagnosis of brain tumors can result in false medical intervention, which ultimately reduces a patient's chance of survival. Manual identification and segmentation of brain tumors from Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans can be difficult and error-prone because of the great range of tumor tissues that exist in various individuals and the similarity of normal tissues. To overcome this limitation, the Amended Convolutional Neural Network (ACNN) model has been introduced, a unique combination of three techniques that have not been previously explored for brain tumor detection. The three techniques integrated into the ACNN model are image tissue preprocessing using the Kalman Bucy Smoothing Filter to remove noisy pixels from the input, image tissue segmentation using the Isotonic Regressive Image Tissue Segmentation Process, and feature extraction using the Marr Wavelet Transformation. The extracted features are compared with the testing features using a sigmoid activation function in the output layer. The experimental findings show that the suggested model outperforms existing techniques concerning accuracy, precision, sensitivity, dice score, Jaccard index, specificity, Positive Predictive Value, Hausdorff distance, recall, and F1 score. The proposed ACNN model achieved a maximum accuracy of 98.8%, which is higher than other existing models, according to the experimental results.

In this paper, we propose a novel method to improve FPS while maintaining the accuracy of YOLO v2 model in NVIDIA Jetson TX1. In general, in order to reduce the amount of computation, a conversion to an integer operation or reducing the depth of a network have been used. However, the accuracy of recognition can be deteriorated. So, we use methods to reduce computation and memory consumption through adjustment of the filter size and integrated computation of the network The first method is to replace the $3{\times}3$ filter with a $1{\times}1$ filter, which reduces the number of parameters to one-ninth. The second method is to reduce the amount of computation through CBR (Convolution-Add Bias-Relu) among the inference acceleration functions of TensorRT, and the last method is to reduce memory consumption by integrating repeated layers using TensorRT. For the simulation results, although the accuracy is decreased by 1% compared to the existing YOLO v2 model, the FPS has been improved from the existing 3.9 FPS to 11 FPS.

As machines have been automated in the field of industries in recent years, it is a paramount importance to manage and maintain the automation machines. When a fault occurs in sensors attached to the machine, the machine may malfunction and further, a huge damage will be caused in the process line. To prevent the situation, the fault of sensors should be monitored, diagnosed and classified in a proper way. In the paper, we propose a sensor fault detection scheme based on SVM and CNN to detect and classify typical sensor errors such as erratic, drift, hard-over, spike, and stuck faults. Time-domain statistical features are utilized for the learning and testing in the proposed scheme, and the genetic algorithm is utilized to select the subset of optimal features. To classify multiple sensor faults, a multi-layer SVM is utilized, and ensemble technique is used for CNN. As a result, the SVM that utilizes a subset of features selected by the genetic algorithm provides better performance than the SVM that utilizes all the features. However, the performance of CNN is superior to that of the SVM.

Because bolts with anti-loosening coatings are used mainly for joining safety-related components in automobiles, accurate automatic screening of these coatings is essential to detect defects efficiently. The performance of the convolutional neural network (CNN) used in a previous study [Identification of bolt coating defects using CNN and Grad-CAM] increased with increasing number of data for the analysis of image patterns and characteristics. On the other hand, obtaining the necessary amount of data for coated bolts is difficult, making training time-consuming. In this paper, resorting to the same VGG16 model as in a previous study, transfer learning was applied to decrease the training time and achieve the same or better accuracy with fewer data. The classifier was trained, considering the number of training data for this study and its similarity with ImageNet data. In conjunction with the fully connected layer, the highest accuracy was achieved (95%). To enhance the performance further, the last convolution layer and the classifier were fine-tuned, which resulted in a 2% increase in accuracy (97%). This shows that the learning time can be reduced by transfer learning and fine-tuning while maintaining a high screening accuracy.
This paper proposes a Convolutional Recurrent Neural Net (CRNN) structure that can simultaneously reflect both static and dynamic characteristics of seismic waveforms for various earthquake events classification. Addressing various earthquake events, including not only micro-earthquakes and artificial-earthquakes but also macro-earthquakes, requires both effective feature extraction and a classifier that can discriminate seismic waveform under noisy environment. First, we extract the static characteristics of seismic waveform through an attention-based convolution layer. Then, the extracted feature-map is sequentially injected as input to a multi-input single-output Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network structure to extract the dynamic characteristic for various seismic event classifications. Subsequently, we perform earthquake events classification through two fully connected layers and softmax function. Representative experimental results using domestic and foreign earthquake database show that the proposed model provides an effective structure for various earthquake events classification.
The Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease commonly found in the elderly individuals. It is one of the most common forms of dementia; patients with AD suffer from a degradation of cognitive abilities over time. To correctly diagnose AD, compuated-aided system equipped with automatic classification algorithm is of great importance. In this paper, we propose a novel deep learning based classification algorithm that takes advantage of MRI biomarker images including brain areas of hippocampus and cerebrospinal fluid for the purpose of improving the AD classification performance. In particular, we develop a new approach that effectively applies MRI biomarker patch images as input to 3D Deep Convolution Neural Network. To integrate multiple classification results from multiple biomarker patch images, we proposed the effective confidence score fusion that combine classification scores generated from soft-max layer. Experimental results show that AD classification performance can be considerably enhanced by using our proposed approach. Compared to the conventional AD classification approach relying on entire MRI input, our proposed method can improve AD classification performance of up to 10.57% thanks to using biomarker patch images. Moreover, the proposed method can attain better or comparable AD classification performances, compared to state-of-the-art methods.
