  • The effects on the enzymatic hydrolysis of waste paper treated with physical or chemical treatment were investigated. To gain the higher saccharification rate, physical or chemical treatment are necessary in enzymatic conversion process of waste paper. The major deterrents to the effective utilization of waste paper for enzymatic conversion process are phenolic compounds, cellulose crystallinity and coating materials. In the enzymatic hydrolysis of waste paper, the deterrents through enzymatic conversion process can be eliminated by the physical or chemical treatment. This study was performed to obtain the optimal condition for enzymatic conversion process of non-treated waste paper and to review effects on enzymatic conversion process of waste paper treated with physical or chemical methods. In the aspect of saccharification rate, waste paper treated with 1.5% sodium hypochlorite was the most effective and in physical treatment methods, multi-stage treatment(autohydrolysis+refining treatment) was more effective than the other physical treatment.

  • Polycrystalline silicon ingots were manufactured using the casting method for polycrystalline silicon solar cells. These ingots were cut into wafers and ten n$^{+}$p type solar cells were made through the following simple process` surface etching, n$^{+}$p junction formation, metalization and annealing. For the grain boundary passivation, the samples were oxidized in O$_2$ for 5 min. at 80$0^{\circ}C$ prior to diffusion in Ar for 100 min. at 95$0^{\circ}C$. The conversion efficiency of polycrystalline silicon solar cells made from these wafers showed about 70-80% of those of the single crystalline silicon solar cell and superior conversion efficiency, compared to those of commercial polycrystalline wafers of Wacker Chemie. The maximum conversion efficiency of our wafers was indicated about 8%(without AR coating) in spite of such a simple fabrication method.

  • The surface treatment of cover glass for conversion efficiency of photovoltaic cell is important to reduce reflectivity and to increase the incident light. In this work, random textured anti glare (RTAG) glass was prepared by wet surface coating method. Optical properties due to the changes of surface morphology of RTAG glass were compared and conversion efficiency of photovoltaic cell was researched. Grain size and changes of surface morphologies formed with surface etching time greatly affected optical transmittance and transmission haze. Current density (Jsc) were high at the condition when surface morphologies reflection haze were low and transmission haze were high. Jsc was $40.0mA/cm^2$ at glancing angle of $90^{\circ}$. Incidence light source was strongly influenced by surface treatment of cover glass at high incidence angle but was hardly affected light source at the low angle of incidence.

  • We improve the energy conversion efficiency (ECE) of a dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC) by preparing a working electrode (WE) with localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) by inducing Au thin films with thickness of 0.0 to 5.0 nm, deposited via sputtering. Field emission scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy were used to characterize the microstructure of the blocking layer (BL) of the Au thin films. Micro-Raman measurement was employed to confirm the LSPR effect, and a solar simulator and potentiostat were used to evaluate the photovoltaic properties, including the impedance and the I-V of the DSSC of the Au thin films. The results of the microstructural analysis confirmed that nano-sized Au agglomerates were present at certain thicknesses. The photovoltaic results show that the ECE reached a value of 5.34% with a 1-nm thick-Au thin film compared to the value of 5.15 % without the Au thin film. This improvement was a result of the increase in the LSPR of the $TiO_2$ layer that resulted from the Au thin film coating. Our results imply that the ECE of a DSSC may be improved by coating with a proper thickness of Au thin film on the BL.

  • Hexavalent chromium passivation, as very effective anti-corrosion method, can not be used in the field of surface treatment for metal, any more. Throughout the world, this regulations which was applied to automotive industries will be extended to all industries including electronics industries in the near future. Therefore a new anti-corrosion method should be established without delay, and trivalent chromium passivation as an alternatives replace the hexavalent chromium passivation for the time being. This paper gives an overview of the currently available trivalent chromium passivation processes, and then it attempts to give an insight to develop a more effective trivalent chromium conversion coating process for possible substitution of the hexavalent chromium passivation process.

  • An electrochromic nickel oxide thin film was fabricated on a flexible PET/ITO substrate using a nanocrystallite- dispersed coating sol and bar coater. Nanocrystalline NiOx of 3-4 nm crystallite size was first synthesized by base precipitation and thermal conversion. This NiOx nanocrystallite powder was mechanically dispersed in an alcoholic solvent mixed with a silane binder to prepare a coating sol for thin film. This sol method is different from the normal sol-gel method in that it does not require the conversion of precursor by heat treatment. Therefore, this method provides a very facile method to prepare NiOx thin films on any kind of substrate and it can be easily applied to mass production. The electrochromic performance of this NiOx thin film on PET/ITO electrode with a thickness of about 400 nm was investigated in a nonaqueous LiClO4 electrolyte solution by cyclic voltammetric and repeated chronoamperometric measurements in conjunction with spectrophotometry. The visible light modulation of 44% and the colorization efficiency of 41 ㎠/C at 550 nm were obtained at the step potentials of -0.8/+1.2 V vs Ag and a duration of 30 s.

  • Colloidal quantum dot (CQD) is emerging as a promising active material for next-generation solar cell applications because of its inexpensive and solution-processable characteristics as well as unique properties such as a tunable band-gap due to the quantum-size effect and multiple exciton generation. However, the most widely used spin-coating method for the formation of the quantum dot (QD) active layers is generally hard to be adopted for high productivity and large-area process. Instead, the spray-coating technique may potentially be utilized for high-throughput production of the CQD solar cells (CQDSCs) because it can be adapted to continuous process and large-area deposition on various substrates although the cell efficiency is still lower than that of the devices fabricated with spin-coating method. In this work, we observed that the subsequent treatment of two different ligands, halide ion and butanedithiol, on the lead sulfide (PbS) QD layer significantly enhanced the cell efficiency of the spray CQDSCs. The maximum power conversion efficiency was 5.3%, comparable to that of the spin-coating CQDSCs.

  • Carbon Nanotubes (CNT) on flexible indium tin oxide (ITO) PET films were prepared for dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC). These CNTs were prepared by spray coating method for various amount of light transparency. Also, Pt counter electrode was prepared by electro deposition method. All $TiO_2$ electrodes were deposited on ITO-PET films by spray coating method. Micro structural images show that CNT counter electrodes prepared by spray-coating have more dense structure with increasing spraying time (0 to 60 seconds). DSSC consisting of $TiO_2$ electrode and CNT counter electrode was fabricated with various amount of light absorption. DSSC have higher light energy conversion efficiency with increasing the thickness of CNT counter electrode. CNT counter electrode is at least compatible to that of CNT counter electrode.

  • Organic solar cells have attracted much interest due to the potential advantage of the lightness, simple solution processing and flexibility. Until recently, the focus of organic solar cells research has been on optimization of material processing to improve the power conversion efficiency. However, area scaling is an important position for alternative to the market dominating solar cells. Spray deposition technologies have advantage of less material wastage and possibility of large scale photoactive area coating when compared with spin coating process. We investigated the performance of organic solar cells as a function of active area using two types of deposition process. The commonly used process is spin coating which can be fabricated organic materials deposition for devices. Spray deposition process compare with spin coating for large-area organic solar cells. The spray deposition organic layer shows excellent performance up to the active area of $4\;cm^2$ with the PCE of ~3.0 % under AM.1.5 simulated illumination with an intensity of $100mW/cm^2$. This indicates that the spray deposition process can be used as a mass production process for evaluating large-area organic solar cells.

  • New high solid acrylic resins (BMHA) containing 70% of solids content have been synthesized. The environmental friendly high solid coatings (BNHS) were prepared by using these acrylic resins and polyisocyanates. The BMHA was obtained by introducing a new functional group, acetoacetoxyethyl methacrylate (AAEM), in the copolymerization of n-butyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, and 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate. Lowering T$_{g}$ and increasing the AAEM amount in the BMHA resulted in a high value of conversion. There was no difference in conversion with the variations of OH values. In the next step, high solid BNHS coatings were prepared by the curing reaction between BMHA and polyisocyanate at room temperature. The properties of these coatings were evaluated especially for the application of automotive top-coating materials. The introduction of AAEM in the BNHS enhanced the abrasion resistance and solvent resistance of the coatings, which indicated the possible use of BNHS coatings for top-coating materials of automobile..
