  • Genetic algorithms are one of the most important methods used to solve the Traveling Salesman Problem. Therefore, many researchers have tried to improve the Genetic Algorithm by using different methods and operations in order to find the optimal solution within reasonable time. This paper intends to find a new approach that adopts an improved genetic algorithm to solve the Traveling Salesman Problem, and compare with the well known heuristic method, namely, Kohonen Self-Organizing Map by using different data sets of symmetric TSP from TSPLIB. In order to improve the search process for the optimal solution, the proposed approach consists of three strategies: two separate tour segments sets, the improved crossover operator, and the improved mutation operator. The two separate tour segments sets are construction heuristic which produces tour of the first generation with low cost. The improved crossover operator finds the candidate fine tour segments in parents and preserves them for descendants. The mutation operator is an operator which can optimize a chromosome with mutation successfully by altering the mutation probability dynamically. The two improved operators can be used to avoid the premature convergence. Simulation experiments are executed to investigate the quality of the solution and convergence speed by using a representative set of test problems taken from TSPLIB. The results of a comparison between the new approach using the improved genetic algorithm and the Kohonen Self-Organizing Map show that the new approach yields better results for problems up to 200 cities.

  • This study explores conceptions of learning management and examines the effects on study approach and critical thinking. Undergraduates majoring or minoring in management were gathered through convenient sampling and participated in the online survey. A total of 88 responses were analyzed. The results reveal that there is no significant gender or grade difference on conceptions of learning management. Conceptions of "test" and "seeing in a new way" are associated with deep study approach, whereas conceptions of 'test' is associated with surface study approach. Conceptions of "seeing in a new way" has a significant effect on critical thinking. The findings may inform redesign of instruction or curriculum especially focusing on improving high-quality thinking skills as the learning outcomes.

  • The convergence of technology as a major breakthrough in technology innovation has been generated and developed. With the advent of the 21st century characterized by the knowledge-based economy, it is happening even more frequently and vigorously than ever. However, study on classification system or definition of notions is necessary as the convergence of technology is still in the early stage. The existing classification system has limited application to the convergence of technology. With no standard available for the classification of the technology convergence, there has been much concern for duplicative R&D investment. On this ground, a new and reformed classification system for the convergence of technology and definition of notions are needed. Previous studies regard base technologies used in the technology convergence and new convergence technologies as important. However, this paper views convergence of technology as a dynamic phenomenon and puts an emphasis on the cause of technology convergence, not on the new technology itself and examines whether base technologies go back to their original state after the completion of technology convergence. This kind of approach will classify technology convergence by characteristics. Although more researches including quantitative analysis are necessary, this paper expects to offer help with further researches on classification system.

  • In this paper, we propose an approach to get the requirement of drone acquisition for the efficient dronebot combat system using brute force algorithm. We define parameters, such as width, depth, and important surveillance area for the surveillance mission in the Army battalion and company units based on real military operation environment and brute force algorithm with 4 steps including first, next, valid, output is applied to get the requirement of drone acquisition and each drone's path planning using computer simulation. As a result, we could get the requirement of drone acquisition and each drone's path planning, the Army could utilize our proposed approach in the Army dronebot combat system. In the future research, we will study on the reliability of our proposed approach to get the requirement of drone acquisition for the efficient dronebot combat system.

  • In this study the behavior of a steel pipe structure used as an auxiliary method was evaluated by the convergence-confinement method and load-transfer approach, and the result was compared with that of numerical approach and in-situ measured data. As calculated partially increased displacement of the installed pipe to obtain the tunnel displacement. A numerical analysis simulate well the general behavior of measured displacement of tunnel crown. Through this study, it was found that the proposed procedure produces conservative result so that it can be applied in preliminary design of the auxiliary method of tunnel face.

  • This paper intends to explore the social and cultural implications of convergence media, based on Goffman's situational approach. The situational segregation of regions makes us to re-interpret the current private and public spheres and helps us to reveal the principle and structure hidden in the new middle region. An environment of convergence media is nullifying the separation of private and public spheres, while letting a new middle region appear.

  • Macrophages play a key role in atherosclerotic plaque formation, but their participation has been discerned largely via ex vivo analyses of atherosclerotic lesions. Therefore, we aimed to identify atherosclerosis on noninvasive in vivo imaging using reporter gene system. This study demonstrated that recruitment of macrophages could be detected in atherosclerotic plaques of Apolipoprotein E knockout (ApoE-/-) mice with a sodium iodide symporter (NIS) gene imaging system using $^{99m}Tc-SPECT$. This novel approach to tracking macrophages to atherosclerotic plaques in vivo could have applications in studies of arteriosclerotic vascular disease.

  • This paper proposes a new method for accelerating the search speed of genetic algorithms by taking derivative evaluation and conditional random selection into account in their evolution process. Derivative evaluation makes genetic algorithms focus on the individuals whose fitness is rapidly increased. This accelerates the search speed of genetic algorithms by enhancing exploitation like steepest descent methods but also increases the possibility of a premature convergence that means most individuals after a few generations approach to local optima. On the other hand, derivative evaluation under a premature convergence helps genetic algorithms escape the local optima by enhancing exploration. If GAs fall into a premature convergence, random selection is used in order to help escaping local optimum, but its effects are not large. We experimented our method with one combinatorial problem and five complex function optimization problems. Experimental results showed that our method was superior to the simple genetic algorithm especially when the search space is large.

  • Generalized order statistics (gos) introduced by Kamps [8] as a unified approach to several models of order random variables (rv's), e.g., (ordinary) order statistics (oos), records, sequential order statistics (sos). In a wide subclass of gos, included oos and sos, the possible limit distribution functions (df's) of the maximum gos are obtained in Nasri-Roudsari [10]. In this paper, for this subclass, as the df of the suitably normalized extreme gos converges on an interval [c, d] to one of possible limit df's of the extreme gos, the continuation of this (weak) convergence on the whole real line to this limit df is proved.

  • This paper proposes an efficient adaptive echo canceller using pilot filter approach to achieve improved convergence speed. The pilot filter is an adaptive filter with only a few filter coefficients to filter the received signal for the purpose of whitening the signal. Thus the convergence speed of the main LMS-TDL filter combined with the pilot filter is improved. In the proposed echo canceller, an adaptive lattice predictor as the pilot filter is used and its inverse filter is used to equalize the distorted near end talker signal. Simulation results for colored signal show that the convergence speed of the proposed echo cancellation algorithm is faster than that of the conventional LMS-TDL echo cancellation algorithm.
