In this paper, we propose a medical image processing method for detection of periodontal disease. The proposed method is the method of an automatic image alignment and detection of minute changes, to overcome defects in the conventional subtraction radiography by digital image processing technique, that is necessary for getting subtraction image and ROI(Region of Interest) focused on a selection method using the structured features in target images. And the method services accuracy, consistency and objective information or data to results. In result, easily and visually we can identify minute differences in the affected parts whether they have problems or not, and using application system.
Purpose : To compare the diagnostic accuracy of proximal caries detection between Kodak Insight film and the Biomedisys CDX2000HQ digital (CCD) sensor. Materials and Methods: 156 proximal surfaces of extracted teeth, 78 of which had chemical artificial caries, were used in this study. Four observers interpreted the radiographs using a five-point confidence rating scale to record their diagnoses. The results were analyzed by receiver operating characteristic curves, ANOVA and Kappa values. Result: Analysis using receiver operating characteristic curves revealed the areas under each curve which indicated a diagnostic accuracy of 0.951 in Insight and 0.952 in CDX2000HQ digital sensor. ANOVA revealed no significant differences between the two images with respect to caries detection. Kappa values indicated that the mean intra-observer agreement was 0.85 and inter-observer agreement 0.71 in conventional radiography. In digital radiography, the mean intra-observer agreement was 0.84 and inter-observer agreement 0.72. Conclusion: The results suggest that no significant difference exists between the two modalities for artificial caries detection and that CDX2000HQ was as good as Insight film for this purpose.

The properties of these detectors can be controlled by electronics and exposure conditions. Flat-panel detectors for digital diagnostic imaging convert incident x-ray images to charge images. Flat panel detectors gain more interest real time medical x-ray imaging. Active area of flat panel detector is $14{\times}17$ inch. Detector is based on a $2560{\times}3072$ away of photoconductor and TFT pixels. X-ray conversion layer is deposited upper TFT array flat panel with a 500m by thermal deposition technology. Thickness uniformity of this layer is made of thickness control technology(5%) of thermal deposition system. Each $139m{\times}139m$ pixel is made of thin film transistor technology, a storage capacitor and charge collection electrode having geometrical fill factor of 86%. Using the separate driving system of two dimensional mosaic modules for large area, that is able to 4.2 second per frame. Imaging performance is suited for digital radiography imaging substitute by conventional radiography film system..
A 6-month-old, female poodle presented with a three-month history of persistent regurgitation immediately after eating. On physical examination, the patient was emaciated and dehydrated. Thoracic radiography showed ventral displacement of the trachea and increased radiopacity in the mediastinum, cranial to the heart base. A severely dilated esophagus was identified cranial to the heart on esophagram. Computed tomography (CT) revealed the esophagus was filled with gas, fluid and a little of contrast and dilated from caudo-cervical to cranio-thoracic part. The esophageal diameter was markedly decreased at the heart base. In addition, the trachea was displaced to the left-ventral side of the right aortic trunk and an aberrant left subclavian artery originating from the aorta was identified. There was no evidence of abdominal vascular anomaly. Based on diagnostic imaging, persistent right aortic arch (PRAA) with an aberrant left subclavian artery was diagnosed. The patient did not undergo surgery and died at 15 days after diagnosis. This report describes imaging diagnosis, including CT and radiography in a weaned dog with regurgitation due to esophageal obstruction by PRAA. When PRAA is suspected and conventional radiography or contrast study is insufficient for diagnosis, CT may be helpful for diagnosing PRAA.
Double tooth is a dental anomaly consequent to fusion of two or more teeth or gemination of a single tooth. This report describes a unique case of double tooth in relation to a mandibular lateral incisor exhibiting the presence of four root canals. The role of conventional radiography and advanced three-dimensional imaging techniques in the better assessment of complex root canal systems and their aid in endodontic management has also been highlighted.
A castrated male, 6 year-old Shih-Tzu, weighing 4.6 kg with a discharge from the external ear canal and a mal-odor was referred to Verterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, Seoul National University. Radiographic findings were narrowing and focal loss of an air density in the left ear canal and bilateral thickening of the osseous bullae. For more detail examination, computed tomography was used. In computed tomographic findings, bilateral thickening of the bulla wall and increased opacity of the bulla space were observed. Thus this dog was diagnosed as bilateral otitis media. Then surgical correction, total ear canal ablation, was performed successfully and the patient showed a good prognosis thereafter. It is considered that computed tomography might serve as an useful imaging tool for otitis media and that it supplies information not obtained with a conventional radiography.
Simple bone cyst (SBC) is very rare in adult ribs. The diagnosis basically relies on conventional radiography and occasionally on a. There has been no earlier publication on PET/CT diagnosis of SBC. We report a case of adult costal SBC diagnosed by positive $^{18}F$-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake. Histology showed the FDG uptake to be associated with reactive woven bone formation and nonspecific chronic inflammation. Correlation of PET, CT, plain radiography and sonography are also described.
This review presents an overview of some diagnostic imaging-related issues regarding medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws(MRONJ), including imaging signs that can predict MRONJ in patients taking antiresorptive drugs, the early imaging features of MRONJ, the relationship between the presence or absence of bone exposure and imaging features, and differences in imaging features by stage, between advanced MRONJ and conventional osteomyelitis, between oncologic and osteoporotic patients with MRONJ, and depending on the type of medication, method of administration, and duration of medication. The early diagnosis of MRONJ can be made by the presence of subtle imaging changes such as thickening of the lamina dura or cortical bone, not by the presence of bone exposure. Most of the imaging features are relatively non-specific, and each patient's clinical findings and history should be referenced. Oral and maxillofacial radiologists and dentists should closely monitor plain radiographs of patients taking antiresorptive/antiangiogenic drugs.

The purpose of this study was comparision of conventional tomography with reformatted computed tomography for dental implant in locating the mandibular canal. Five dogs were used and after conventional tomographs and reformatted computed tomographs were taken, four dentist traced all films. Mandibles were sectioned with 2mm slice thickness and the sections were then radiographed(contact radiography). Each radiographic image was traced and linear measurements were made from mandibular canal to alveolar crest, buccal cortex, lingual cortex, and inferior border. Following results were acquired : 1. Reformatted computed tomographs were exacter than conventional tomography by alveolar crest to canal length of -0.6mm difference between real values and radiographs. 2. The average measurements of buccal cortex to mandibular canal width and lingual cortex to mandibular canal width of conventional tomographs were exacter than reformatted computed tomographs, but standard deviations were higher than reformatted computed tomographs. 3. Standard deviations of reformatted computed tomographs were lower than conventional tomographs at all comparing sites 4. At reformatted computed tomography 62.5% of the measurements performed were within. : filmm of the true value, and at conventional tomography 24.1% were. 5. Mandibular canal invisibiity was 0.8% at reformatted computed tomography and 9.2% at conventional tomography. Reformatted computed tomography has been shown to be more useful radiographic technique for assessment of the mandibular canal than conventional tomography.

Purpose : This study was aimed to calculate effective dose from cone beam CT and compare effective dose from periapical and panoramic radiography for mesiodens. Materials and Methods : Upper anteiror periapical, panoramic radiography and cone-beam CT were taken for diagnosis of mesiodens. The effective dose were calculated by using an anthropomorphic phantom loaded with thermoluminescent dosimeters at the 23 sites related to sensitive organs. Results : The highest absorbed doses were received by the mandibular body, parotid gland and cheek from periapical, panoramic and cone-beam CT, respectively. The effective doses for periapical, panoramic radiography and cone-beam CT measured 2, 18 and 48 ${\mu}Sv$. Conclusion : Cone-beam CT, although providing additional diagnostic benefits, exposes patients to higher levels of radiation than conventional periapical and panoramic radiography.
