  • Sudokwon landfill("Sudokwon" means regions of Seoul, Kyunggi and Incheon metropolitan cities in Korea), the world's largest sanitary landfill, has been systematically managing statistics on the incoming and dumping wastes and satisfactorily controlling pollutants including leachate and LFG. According to our long time experience of LFG field monitoring, the emission of GHG from landfill estimated by the IPCC Guideline showed much difference with our results. C&D waste has high concentration of sulfate compared to other wastes. Increased C&D waste of dumping waste had changed the COD/sulfate ratio in the landfill, which caused the increase of H2S gas and the decrease of CH4 gas. But the IPCC estimation method does not consider the effects of sulfate. In addition to that, the oxidation factor of the cover soil is set to the default values of 0.1 but the measured values by the field monitoring, are showing much higher than that, especially in the closed landfill.

  • The characteristics of non-point source pollutant loads in middle-stream of Nakdong River Were studied through analysis of pollutant loads of 8 sub-watersheds divided based on administrative district. The pollutant concentration of each sub-watershed was collected from Nakdong-River Water Research Institute and Daegu Regional Environmental Office, respectively. Pollution items analysed in this study were BOD, SS, T-N and T-P. High degree of non-point pollution was observed from Gumi, Goryeong, Gyeongsan, Daegu and Sungju, and pollution was usually increased during rainy season. This result indicates that a given pollution condition within the watershed can be more sensitive than location factor to the level of water quality. The main sources of non-point pollution were population and livestock, as well as landuse factor, and were found to significantly contribute to the water pollution. Alternative solutions for controlling pollution sources, therefore, should be provided to meet target levels of water quality in this region.

  • Until now, passenger airbag design is based on the referred car design and many repetitive crash tests have been done to meet the crash performance. In this paper, it was suggested a new design process of passenger airbag. First, key performance factors were determined by analyzing the injury risk effectiveness of each performance factor. And it was made a relationship between injury risk and performance factor by using the response surface model. By using this one, it can be predicted the injury risk of head and neck. Predicted injury risk of optimal design was obtained through this injury risk prediction model and it was verified by FE analysis result within 18% error of head and 9% error of neck. It was shown that a target crash performance can be met by controlling the key performance factors only.

  • PWM converters employing GTO's are proposed to be used for the currently planned Korean High-Speed Train system. In this paper, operating methods and harmonic spectrums are investigated for the PWM modulated voltage controlled GTO AC/DC converter used in the High-Speed Train System. It is shown that harmonic components can be controlled by varying carrier frequency in PWM modulation schemes. Then the input power-factor control scheme is suggested and analyzed. It is found that the power-factor can be varied by controlling the converter input voltage and phase angles between the input supply voltage and the converter input voltage. Finally, simulation programs are developed and converter systems are implemented.

  • In this paper, a novel concept for a static three-phase to three-phase power converter for an AC drive with a unity power factor and reduced harmonics on the utility line is presented. The power circuit consists of two back-to-back connected six-pulse bridges having only a $\mu$F ceramic capacitor in the DC link. By controlling the active kpower balance between two bridges, the DC link voltage can be maintained within 20V deviation from the nominal value with the small ceramic capacitors regardless of the load variation even in the unbalanced source condition.

  • We have proposed the dimming controller using the AC chopper technique. The AC chopper changes the amplitude of the input source voltage with the same frequency. The conventional dimming controller is operated by controlling voltage phase with the triac. It has bad characteristics of the input current THD and the input power factor But the dimming controller using the ac chopper technique has a low current THD and a good power factor. The developed dimming controller is consist of the IGBT and the low pass filter. The system is operated by the variation circuit of the input source voltage and the microprocessor.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the factors which influence the effectiveness of nursing organization in the hospital. The data were collected by employing Delphi technique in a series of three rounds from June 15, 1985 to January 31, 1986. In each round the responses to questionnaires were analyzed and the results were communicated back to the subjects. Finally consensed among subjects in identification of the 45 items which influence the effectiveness of nursing organization in the hospital. The 48 items were reduced to 6 factors and named; planning, organization and problem-solving, staffing and staff developing, supporting, evaluating-controlling and leading, and the number of items included for each factor were 14,14,8,5,3,2 and respectively. Among the 48 items, 2 items were not loaded on forementioned 6 factors because factor loading was below 0.3.

  • This paper deal with the power factor improvement of DC power regenerating systems, which are composed of two inverters, zig-zag connected output transformers, and an AC filter. The output voltages of the inverter system are not sinusoidal. Regenerated complex power is analyzed on the basis of fundamental components and therefore the reactive power produced by harmonics is not considered. Therefore, it is needed a new control scheme capable of controlling the reactive power nearly to zero for nonsinusoidal case. Computer simulations are carried out to verify the validity of the proposed control scheme.

  • By adapting black body leadflame and thin film type Green A filter, we successfully demonstrated night vision imaging system (NVIS) Green A compatible LED. Fabricated NVIS compatible LEDs show small form factor compared to that of commercialized NVIS compatible LED. Especially, NVIS radiance and chromaticity of MIL-STD-3009 specification can be satisfied simultaneously and easily by controlling the color temperature of the white LED as well as the concentration of the Green A dye and the thickness of the Green A filter. The optimal dye concentration of the NVIS Green A filter is expected to be about 1 wt%. The results of this study are expected to contribute to miniaturization, weight reduction and localization of avionic display and lighting devices.
