  • A direct torque control algorithm for 3-level inverter-fed induction motors is presented. Conventional voltage selection methods provoke some problems such as stator flux drooping phenomenon and undersirable torque control appeared especially at the low speed operation. To overcome these problems, a proposed method uses intermediate voltage vectors, which are inherently generated in 3-level inverters. In the proposed algorithm, both subdivision of the basic switching sectors and applications of tntermediated voltages improve the low speed operation characteristics. This algorithm basically considers applications in which direct torque controlled induction motors are fed by 3-level inverters with low switching frequency around 500Hz. An adaptive observer is also employed to bring better responses at the low speed operation, by estimating some state-variables, motor speed and motor parameters which take a deep effect on the performance of the low speed operation. Simulation and experiment results verify effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper presents the over-modulation strategy and indirect vector control drive of NPC type PWM inverter. NPC inverter has three level phase voltage output. It can perform in high voltage through assembling switching components. It has less harmonics and surge voltage stress at motor terminals than the 2 level inverter in same switching frequency through 3 level voltage. The conventional railway vehicle has used the vector control to MI=0.907 and the slip-frequency control from MI=0.907 to six-step mode. The slip-frequency control has bad motive power and slow torque control response. But vector control has good motive power and can instant torque control. In this paper, output voltage is controlled linearly from linear region to six-step mode by using over-modulation strategy. And NPC inverter is used.

  • By incorporating a 966nm near infrared laser, we demonstrated bidirectional current triggering of between 0 and 10mA in a two-terminal planar device based on a highly resistive vanadium dioxide ($VO_2$) thin film grown by a pulsed laser deposition method. A two-terminal planar device, which had an electrode separation of $100{\mu}m$ and a $50{\mu}m-wide$ $VO_2$ conducting layer, was fabricated through ion beam-assisted milling and photolithographic techniques. A bias voltage range for stable bidirectional current triggering was determined by investigating the current-voltage curves of the $VO_2-based$ device in a current-controlled mode. Bidirectional current triggering of up to 10mA was realized by directly illuminating the $VO_2$ film with a focused infrared laser beam, and the transient responses of triggered currents were analyzed when the laser was modulated at various pulse widths and repetition rates. A switching contrast between off- and on-state currents was evaluated as ~3571, and the rising and falling times were measured as ~40 and ~20ms, respectively.

  • The DLS(Data Link System) is located in the PDTS(Payload Data Transmission Subsystem) of KOMPSAT-II, and its main function is to provide communication link with Ground Segment as a space segment. DLS receive the data of MSC, OBC from DCSU(Data Compression Storage Unit) and transmit to the Ground Station by X-Band RF link. DLS is consist of CCU(Channel Coding Unit), QTX(QPSK Transmitter, ASU(Antenna Switch Unit) CCU makes a packet for communication after several kind of data processing such like Ciphering, RS Coding. QTX transmit PDTS data by OQPSK. Modulation. ASU is the unit for reliability of antenna switching. So, DLS's function is consists of ciphering, RS coding, CCSDS packetizing, randomizing, modulation and switching to antenna. These DLS's functions are controlled by PMU(Payload Management Unit). All commands to DLS are sent by PMU and all telemetries of DLS are sent to the PMU. The PMU receives commands from OBC and sends telemetries to the OBC. The OBC communicates with Ground Station by S-Band RF link. This paper presents the on-orbit DLS operation concept through the ground segment.

  • A personal low-frequency stimulator is a portable device to relax muscle pains of a person. The stimulator generates combined low-frequency pulses to be applied to pads attached to painful muscles. This paper reports a development of such device with its characteristic analyses. The major components of our stimulator are MCU, high-voltage generating circuit part, high-voltage switching circuit part, input switch part and display unit. High-voltage generating circuit is designed by using a boost converter circuit and allows user control of the output voltage. High-voltage switching circuit, controlled by MCU, generates output voltage to be applied to pads. Input switch part is composed of power supply, intensity selection, mode selection and memory. Display unit adopts a text LCD module to display modes, Intensity, output frequency and user set-up time. Our designed safety circuit, to protect human body from possible electric shock, slowly increases the output voltage to the selected output intensity. It continuously checks the output pulse shape and disable the output when dangerous pulses are detected. This paper also shows some experimental results.

  • The phase transition between amorphous and crystalline states in chalcogenide semiconductor films can controlled by electric pulses or pulsed laser beam; hence some chalcogenide semiconductor films can be applied to electrically write/erase nonvolatile memory devices, where the low conductive amorphous state and the high conductive crystalline state are assigned to binary states. Memory switching in chalcogenides is mostly a thermal process, which involves phase transformation from amorphous to crystalline state. The nonvolatile memory cells are composed of a simple sandwich (metal/chalcogenide/metal). It was formed that the threshold voltage depends on thickness, electrode distance, annealing time and temperature, respectively.

  • This paper presents high efficiency control system of automotive 35W electronic ballast for high intensity discharge(HID) lamp using switching flyback converter with variable frequency. Considering performance, size and efficiency of ballast, the flyback converter is designed with planar transformer in converter stage. HID lamp demands a highly efficient ballast and very complex control circuitry that can control complex transient state for applying to automotive. The proposed electronic ballast system is composed of a flyback converter using planar transformer, a full bridge inverter, and a step up igniter. In this system, switching frequency of flyback converter is controlled by varying input voltage of HID ballast and the price and the size of HID ballast using planar transformer can be reduced. • In this paper, a constant frequency phase shifting PWM-controlled voltage source full bridge-type series load resonant high-frequency inverter using the $4^{th}$ generation IGBT power modules is presented for innovative consumer electromagnetic induction heating applications, such as a hot water producer, steamer and super heated steamer. The bridge arm side link passive capacitive snubbers in parallel with each power semiconductor device and AC load side linked active edge inductive snubber-assisted series load resonant tank soft switching inverter with a constant frequency phase shifted PWM control scheme is evaluated and discussed on the basis of the simulation and experimental results. It is proved from a practical point of view that the series load resonant and edge resonant hybrid high-frequency inverter topology, what is called, DE class type, including the variable-power variable-frequency regulation function can expand zero voltage soft switching commutation area even under low output power setting ranges, which is more suitable and acceptable for newly developed induction heated dual pack fluid heaters. Furthermore, even the lower output power regulation mode of this high-frequency load resonant tank inverter circuit is verified so that this inverter can achieve ZVS with the aid of the single auxiliary inductor snubber.

  • In this paper, with loosely coupled transformer Relies-parallel resonant type DC/DC converter is analyzed and adopted to the power source of a TFLM(Transverse Flux Linear Motor). To get more efficient operating mode of the series-parallel resonant type DC/DC converter, theoretical analysis using normalized parameters are accepted. The analysis includes a specially made ferrite transformer with two separately wound half cores in order to evaluate analytically and experimentally the changes in magnetizing the leakage fluxes and inductances caused by the distance between the halves. The proposed converter must be operated in switching Pattern III among the three switching patterns for the Zero Voltage Switching operation. According to Pulse Frequency Modulation(PFM) control method, the output voltage of the proposed circuit can be controlled. The results of the theoretical development are compared with practical measurements from a prototype system.
