  • Hybrid type LPM can be widely applied in the precise position controlled devic because precise linear motion can be directly obtained by the simple control circuit without backlash in the rotary-type stepping motor. Also, LPM can increase the Position resolution, which was limited by mechanical manufacturing limit and characteristic of magnetic material. using micro-step drive method to decrease the noise and vibration further. Especially, Double-side LPM may be replaced the solenoid as the valve driving device without difficulty and give full play to control the valve accurately. Hence, In this paper, magnetic circuit of double-side LPM was confirmed and static thrust force curve according to the relative displacement between stator and mover, was analyzed by the two dimensional finite element method. From this results, we can suppose the excitation current to be controlled optimally.

  • The objective of optimal placement of dampers for a structure is to maximize the effective-ness of the vibration control with the same number of dampers. While many optimal placement methods of linear viscous dampers have been proposed and used, there are only a few methods for MR dampers. Here some optimal location indices for M dampers are proposed, which are similar to those for linear viscous dampers and show how large the structural responses on each floor are. Every time an additional MR damper is implemented, the optimal location index on each floor is measured, and then the next damper is installed on the floor with the maximum location index. In these sequential procedures, the peak interstory drift, the peak interstory velocity and the absolute acceleration of each floor are selected as the optimal location indeices. Four different earthquakes with various scales are loaded to the 20-story nonlinear benchmark building model (Otori et al. 2000, 2002). Passive On/on algorithms are used in order to represent the control algorithm of M dampers.

  • Flexible structures may experience excessive levels of vibration under the action of wind, adversely affecting serviceability and occupant comfort. To ensure the functional performance of a structure, various design modifications are possible, ranging from alternative structural systems to the utilization of passive and active control devices. This paper presents an overview of state-of-the-art measures that reduce the structural response of buildings, including a summary of recent work in aerodynamic tailoring and a discussion of auxiliary damping devices for mitigating the wind-induced motion of structures. In addition, some discussion of the application of such devices to improve structural resistance to seismic events is also presented, concluding with detailed examples of the application of auxiliary damping devices in Australia, Canada, China, Japan, and the United States.

  • NiTi-wire shape memory alloy (SMA) dampers, that utilize NiTi SMA wires to simultaneously damp tension, compression and torsion, was developed for structural control implementation in this study. First, eight reduced-scale NiTi-wire SMA dampers were constructed. Then tension, compression and torsion experiments using the eight reduced-scale NiTi-wire SMA dampers of different specification were done. The experimental results revealed all of the eight reduced-scale NiTi-wire SMA dampers had the ability to simultaneously supply tension-compression damping and torsion damping. Finally, mechanics analysis of the NiTi-wire SMA dampers was done based on a model of the SMA-wire restoring force and on tension-compression and torsion damping analysis. The damping analytical results were found to be similar to the damping experimental results.

  • This paper presents the formulation of a new bridge-vehicle system with validation using the field data. Both pitching and twisting modes of the vehicle are considered in the contribution of the dynamic effects in the bridge responses. A heavy vehicle was hired as a control vehicle with known axle weight, axle spacing and spring coefficients. The measured responses were generated from the control vehicle running at a particular speed at a test span at Ma Tau Wai Flyover. The measured responses were acquired using strain gauges installed beneath the girder beams of the test bridge. The simulated responses were generated using BRVEAN that is a self-developed program based on the proposed bridge-vehicle system. The validation shows that the bridge model is valid for representing the test bridge and the governing equations are valid for representing the motion of moving vehicles.

  • This paper proposed a conceptual design of bascule bridge, which is a new kind of movable bridge with an aim of reducing the weight of superstructure. Compared with the traditional bascule bridge, the light bascule bridge chooses cable-stayed bridge with inclined pylon as its superstructure; therefore, the functions of balance-weight and structure will fuse into one. Otherwise, it adopts moving counterweight to adjust its center of gravity (CG) to open or close the bridge. In order to lighten the superstructure, it uses contact springs to auxiliary retract, and intelligent prestressing system (IPS) to control the main girder's deformation. Simultaneously the vibration control scheme of structure is discussed. Starting from establishing the mechanical model of bridge, this article tries to analyze the conditions that the design parameters of structure and attachments should satisfy to. After the design procedure was presented, an example was also adopted to explain the primary design process of this kind bridge.

  • A robot manipulator is usually operated in two modes: free motion and constraint motion according to the fact whether the robot comes into contact with the environment or not. At the moment of contact, impact occurs, and sometimes, it can possibly degrade the robot's performance such as vibration and at worst, shortens its lifetime. In this article, a new proposed algorithm is described by introducing a command signal modification method on the basis of impedance control and a validity of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated by showing the simulation study.

  • The purpose of this study is to design a flexural structure that has a function of pan and tilt for an artificial eyeball. The artificial eyeball system has a function of image stabilization, which compensate panning and tilting vibration of the body on which the artificial eyeball is attached. The target closed loop control bandwidth is 50Hz, so the mechanical resonance frequency is required to be more than the control bandwidth, which is a tough design problem because of a big mass of camera and actuator. In this study, the design process including the selection of the principal parameters by numerical analysis with ANSYS will be described, as well as the design results and frequency response.

  • This paper introduces the main function and protection method of IGBT gate driver that designed by KOROS. Recently, the applications of insulated gate bipolar transistors(IGBTs) have expanded widely, particularly in the area of railway converters. This driver is suitable for railway traction applications, so they are designed for circumstance of railway vehicle such as vibration. The input control power for this driver is supplied from battery charger of railway. it is no necessary an isolated power supply board or auxiliary power supply, with substantial savings in cost and space in railway applications. This gate driver can be used wide range of input voltage. So, performance of the driver has no relation with the battery voltage(70V∼110V). The protection methods of IGBT gate driver have many kind of ways, but this gate driver it designed to apply to converter for railway system, so this gate driver includes protection for arm short current and low control power voltage, etc. And the process of protection method and protection reference value are optimized by means of sufficient test with our own facilities.

  • This paper covers topics related to the investigations for the problem of sensorless vibratory orienting of polygonal parts with high probability through dynamic simulation. The author's program for mechanical systems with changing topologies was experimentally validated and was used as a simulation and design tool for motion behaviors of the vibratory parts-orienting system in the dynamic environment. A flat level vibrating bar is proposed as a means of orienting parts. Dynamic manipulation, in which a part is repeatedly caught and tossed by the bar without sensing, forms the fundamental manipulation strategy. This paper presents how to plan vibratory manipulation strategies that can orient a small rigid polygonal part using interaction between the part and the vibrating bar without requiring sensing. The planned motion strategies have been experimentally validated to show how the dynamic simulation can be used to find favorable vibration parameters for a given part without knowledge of their initial orientations.
