  • A LMS algorithms has been widely used for an adaptive filter algorithm in active noise control systems. But this algorithm has poor convergence and it is very difficult to select optimal convergence parameters in this algorithm. In this paper, a fuzzy LMS algorithm where the convergence parameters are computed using a fuzzy logic controller was proposed. A proposed algorithm was applied to active noise control system in HVAC(central Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) ducts. The experimental ducts and experimental apparatus were designed and manufactured for experiments, and the modelling of the experimental ducts was also performed for computer simulations. Computer simulations and experiments were performed to show the effectiveness of a proposed algorithm.

  • A new permanent magnet biased hybrid maglev actuator is developed. Compared to the classical hybrid maglev actuators, the new maglev has unique flux paths such that bias fluxes are separated with control flux paths. The control flux paths have minimum reluctances only developed by air gaps, so the currents to produce control fluxes can be minimized. The consumed power to operate this maglev system can also be minimized. The gravity load can be compensated with the static magnetic forces developed by the permanent magnet bias fluxes while external disturbances are controlled with the bidirectional AC magnetic forces developed by control fluxes by currents. 1-D circuit model is developed for this model such that the flux densities and magnetic forces are extensively analyzed. 3-D finite element model is also developed to analyze the performances of the maglev actuator.

  • Offshore structures are subjected to wave, wind, and earthquake loads. The failure of offshore structures can cause sea pollution, as well as losses of property and lives. Therefore, safety of the structure is an important issue. The reduction of the dynamic response of offshore towers, subjected wind generated random ocean waves, is a critical problem with respect to serviceability, fatigue life and safety of the structure. In this paper, a structural control method is proposed to control the vibration of offshore structures by the probabilistic neural network (PNN). The state vectors of the structure and control forces are used for training patterns of the PNN, in which control forces are prepared by linear quadratic regulator (LQR) control algorithm. The proposed algorithm is applied to a fixed offshore structure under random ocean waves. Active control of the fixed offshore structure using the PNN control algorithm shows good results.

  • This paper proposes the fuzzy PI controller for maximum power point tracking(MPPT) control of photovoltaic system. The output characteristics of the solar cell are a nonlinear and affected by a temperature, the solar radiation. The MPPT control is a very important technique in order to increase an output and efficiency of the photovoltaic system. The conventional perturbation and observation(PO) and incremental conductance(IC) are the method which finding maximum power point(MPP) by the continued self-excitation vibration, and uses the fixed step size. If the fixed step size is a large, the tracking speed of maximum power point is faster, but the tracking accuracy in the steady state is decreased. On the contrary, when the fixed step size is a small, the tracking accuracy is increased and the tracking speed is slower. Therefore, this paper proposes the MPPT control using the fuzzy PI controller that can be improve a MPPT control performance. The fuzzy PI controller is adjusted a input of PI controller by fuzzy control and compensated a cumulative error of fuzzy control by PI controller. The fuzzy PI MPPT control is compared to conventional PO and IC MPPT method for various temperature and radiation condition. This paper proves the validity of the fuzzy PI controller using these results.

  • This paper presents design of the quantitative feedback control system of the three axes hydraulic road simulator with respect to the dummy wheel for uncertain multiple input-output(MIMO) feedback systems. This simulator has the uncertain parameters such as fluid compressibility, fluid leakage, electrical servo components and nonlinear mechanical connections. This works have reproduced the random input signal to implement the real road vibration's data in the lab. The replaced $m^2$ MISO equivalent control systems satisfied the design specifications of the original $m^*m$ MIMO control system and developed the mathematical method using quantitative feedback theory based on schauder's fixed point theorem. This control system illustrates a tracking performance of the closed-loop controller with low order transfer function G(s) and pre-filter F(s) having the minimum bandwidth for parameters of uncertain plant. The efficacy of the designed controller is verified through the dynamic simulation with combined hydraulic model and Adams simulator model. The Matlab simulation results to connect with Adams simulator model show that the proposed control technique works well under uncertain hydraulic plant system. The designed control system has satisfied robust performance with stability bounds, tracking bounds and disturbance. The Hydraulic road simulator consists of the specimen, hydraulic pump, servo valve, hydraulic actuator and its control equipments

  • This paper proposes an optimum design method of structural and control systems, using a 2-D truss structure as an example. The structure is subjected to initial static loads and disturbances. For the structure, a FEM model is formed. Using modal transformation, the equation of motion is transformed into modal coordinates, in order to decrease D.O.F. of the FEM model. To suppress the effect of the disturbances, the structure is controlled by an output feedback $H_{\infty}$ controller. The design variables of the combined optimal design of the control-structure systems are the cross sectional areas of truss members. The structural objective function is the structural weight. The control objective function is the $H_{\infty}$ norm, the performance index of control. The second structural objective function is the energy of the response related to the initial state, which is derived from the time integration of the quadratic form of the state in the closed-loop system. In a numerical example, simulations have been perform. Through the consideration of structural weight and $H_{\infty}$ norm, an advantage of the combined optimum design of structural and control systems is shown. Moreover, since the performance index of control is almost nearly optimiz, we can acquire better design of structural strength.

  • A twin-servo mechanism is used to increase the payload capacity and assembling speed of high precision motion control systems such as semiconductor chip mounters. In this paper, we focus on the modeling of the twin-servo system and propose its network representation. And also, we propose a robust synchronizing motion control algorithm to cancel out the skew motion of the twin-servo system caused by different dynamic characteristics of two driving systems and the vibration generated by high accelerating and decelerating motions. The proposed control algorithm consists of separate feedback motion control algorithms for each driving system and a skew motion compensation algorithm. A robust tracking controller based on internal-loop compensation is proposed as a separate motion controller and its disturbance attenuation property is shown. The skew motion compensation algorithm is also designed to maintain the synchronizing motion during high speed operation, and the stability of the whole closed loop system is proved based on passivity theory. Finally, experimental results are shown to illustrate control performance.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the flexible structure of parabolic shell using photostrictive actuators. The analysis is made to know its dynamic behavior and light-induced control forces for coupled parabolic shell. The effects of an actuator location as well as membrane and bending components under the control action have been analyzed considering the approximate spherical model. The parabolic membrane shell accuracy is being mathematically approximated and validated comparing the light induced control forces using approximate equivalent spherical shell model. The parabolic shell with kapton smart material and photostrictive actuators has been used to formulate the governing equation in the transverse direction. The Kirchhoff-Love assumptions are used to obtain the governing equation of shell with actuator. The mechanical membrane forces and bending moments for parabolic thin shell with actuator is used to analyze the dynamic effect. The results show that membrane control action is much more significant than bending control action. Photostrictive actuators oriented along circumferential direction (actuator-2) can give better control effect than actuators placed along longitudinal direction (actuator-1). The slight difference is observed between spherical and parabolic shell for a surface with focal length to the diameter ratio of 1.00 or more than unity. Space applications often have the shape of parabolical shells or shell of revolution, due to their required focusing, aiming, or reflecting performance. The present approach is focused that photostrictive actuators can effectively control the vibration of parabolical membrane shell. Also, the actuator's location plays an important role in defining the control force.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of a LQG Hybrid controller to suppress the earthquake disturbance for the building structure. The ground acceleration of N-S component of El-Centro earthquake was scaled to confirm that the building behaved within the elastic range. The tuned mass damper(TMD) on the top floor regulated by LQG algorithm was designed to control the floor displacements. The displacement responses of the hybrid control were compared with those obtained from an active control along with a passive control. The results showed that the LQG hybrid control used approximately 50% less input forces than an active control to satisfy the performance criteria.
