  • This paper reviewed wave propagation of train vibration based on the study of high speed railway soft ground section with pile slab construction. In a filed of railway, concrete track has been adapted in a railway construction. And in order to maintain its track, soil improving method was required to control residual settlement. Within many soft ground settlement prevention techniques, pile slab method has an effect of minimizing residual settlement of soft ground. This is possible using support embankment load method by construct pile slab or cap the upper soft ground. This paper reviewed vibration wave characteristic of soft ground section with pile slab using numerical analysis application through finite element analysis. Pile slab method is established between high stiffened soft ground and embankment this creates a possibility of vibration block or slab amplification. Thus analyzed of wave propagation was done with roadbed and structure property to confirm application performance of pile slab method of high speed railway structure.

  • DuraMote is a remote sensing system developed for the "NIST TIP project: next generation SCADA for prevention and mitigation of water system infrastructure disaster". It is designed for supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) of ruptures in water pipes. Micro-electro mechanical (MEMS) accelerometers, which record the vibration of the pipe wall, are used detect the ruptures. However, the performance of Duramote cannot be verified directly on a water distribution system because it lacks an acceptable recordable level of ambient vibration. Instead, a long-span cable-stayed bridge is an ideal test-bed to validate the accuracy, the reliability, and the robustness of DuraMote because the bridge has an acceptable level of ambient vibration. The acceleration data recorded on the bridge were used to identify the modal properties of the structure and to verify the performance of DuraMote. During the test period, the bridge was subjected to heavy rain, wind, and a typhoon but the system demonstrates its robustness and durability.

  • The functional behavior of each body segments were investigated with respect to human standing posture when they were exposed to the horizontal vibration in the sagittal plane. This study is processed by experimental approach. The data is analyzed, both in the time domain and in the frequency domain. Random and multisinusoidal vibration was used as input. The ankle, hip, and head were employed as the significant body segments. High relative movements were present between hip and head, and there was no significant relationship between ankle and head. Variations of visual input produced a significant postural effect.

  • In this paper, the feasibility of the high-performance damping device vibration suppression of stay cables has been investigated. The proposed damping system consists of a linear viscous damper and a scissor-jack-type toggle linkage. Since the mechanism of the scissor-jack-type toggle linkage amplifies the relative displacement of the linear viscous damper, it is expected that the capacity of the viscous damper used in the scissor-jack-damper energy dissipation system can be reduced without the loss of the control performance. Numerical simulation results demonstrate the efficacy of the damping system employing the scissor-jack-type toggle linkage. Therefore, the proposed damping system could be considered as one of the promising candidates for suppressing vibration of stay cable.

  • Reinforced concrete shear wall is one of the most common structural forms for high-rise buildings, and seismic energy dissipation techniques, which are effective means to control structural vibration response, are being increasingly used in engineering. Reinforced concrete-mild steel damper stiffness-tandem energy dissipation coupling beams are a new technology being gradually adopted by more construction projects since being proposed. Research on this technology is somewhat deficient, and this paper investigates design principles and methods for two types of mild steel dampers commonly used for energy dissipation coupling beams. Based on the conception design of R.C. shear wall structure and mechanics principle, the basic design theories and analytic expressions for the related optimization parameters of dampers at elastic stage, yield stage, and limit state are derived. The outcomes provide technical support and reference for application and promotion of reinforced concrete-mild steel damper stiffness-tandem energy dissipation coupling beam in engineering practice.

  • In the space industry, structures undergo several vibration and acoustic tests in order to verify their design and give confidence that they will survive the launch and other critical in-orbit dynamic scenarios. At component level, vibration tests are conducted with the aim to reach local or global interface loads without exceeding the design loads. So, it is often necessary to control and limit the input based on a load criterion. This means the test engineer should be able to assess the interface loads, even when load cannot be measured. This paper presents various approaches to evaluate interface loads using measured accelerations and by referring to mass operators. Various methods, from curve fitting techniques to finite element-based methods are presented. The methods are compared using signals with known imperfection to identify strengths and weaknesses of each mass operator definition.

  • The Tuned Pendulum Slab Damper(TPSD)system is mainly composed of suspended pendulum slab which was hanging with cable wire from the top floor of building without any extra loads structurally, and can be helpful to reduce vibration with effect of tuned mass damper function by the principle of pendulum movement. The experiment was performed with miniatures of the 30stories of steel structure building by the forced vibration test using shaking table, and the result was reduced about 42% of vibration. The purpose of this study was to make analysis of application of the TPSD system to new building and exist building against strong wind or seismic wave. The result of this study was that the TPSD system shall be satisfactory in field of execution, process control, safety and economical efficiency with saving up to 70% of construction cost.

  • It Is indispensible to cause vibration, noise and dust to blasting and breaker operations. Since the control of these factors is supposed to be extremely difficult, the claim of compensation for material and mental damages are getting increased. Economically feasible blasting operation with controlling vibration and noise can be achieved by establishment of science-based plan, accurate operation and responsible inspection, and the application of efficient management system. It must also be remarked that the relevant applied without prejudice by the operator, and the law and regulation should be applied without prejudice by the authority concerned. In addition, the public claim against operators should be investigated in detail and the prosecution should be made under the careful onside-ration of scientific and reasonable conception. Finally, it is strongly suggested that the operations, public and authorities should make great efforts to develop higher technology in order to expand our construction market, to overseas.

  • For motor operation at low speeds and loads, torque pulsation by the cogging torque is often a source of vibration and control difficulty. In this paper, the magnetic field of a motor is calculated by finite element method. The periodic cogging torque is determined using Maxwell stress method and time stepping method, and then decomposed using fourier series expansion, The purpose of this paper is to characterize design parameters on the cogging torque and to design a permanent magnet motor with a cogging torque less vulnerable to vibration, without sacrificing the motor performance. The design parameters include stator slot width, permanent magnet slot width, airgap length and magnetization direction. A new design with a less populated frequency spectrum of the cogging torque is proposed after characterizing individual effect of design parameters. Magnet pole edge shaping, by gradually increasing the cogging torque with reduced higher harmonics.
