  • Linear motion ( LM) guides having rolling elements have been used to position precision machines accurately. For ultra-accurate Positioning control of Precision machines, the understanding of the dynamic behavior of the LM guide at the macro and/or micro scales is most critical, but the research on this subject is rare. The objective of the present research is to investigate the vibration phenomena of the LM guide where balls are used as the rolling elements. Several experiments show the nonlinear characteristics of the LM guide such as hysteresis behavior and force-dependent natural frequencies phenomena.

  • In this paper, an improved small-scaled blade prototype was designed with the flap-driving mechanism classified as an active vibration reduction method, in order to reduce vibratory load in the helicopter. In detail, the previous Active Trailing-Edge Flap based on piezoelectric actuator, called SNUF(Seoul National University Flap), failed to achieve the target value (${\pm}4^{\circ}$) of the flap deflection angle. Therefore, the flap-driving mechanism design was improved, and a new piezoactuator was selected to accomplish the target value of the flap deflection angle in both static and rotating situations.

  • The downstream piping system of the water supply system in a supercritical power plant is affected by the fluctuation pressure waves induced by accessing to the acoustic modes of the piping systems with the rotation and impeller passing pulsations of the feed water pump. There are the phenomena amplified at the same time in the range of 415 ~ 455Hz, 830 ~ 910Hz, 1245 ~ 1365Hz and 1660 ~ 1820Hz on the spectrums of the vibration, the sound pressure, and the pressure fluctuation waves.

  • This case study refers to resonance with vertical pumps. Vibration problem occurring after the inverter was installed for speed control. Its problem was appeared any revolution under rated speed. Vibration data was acquired during normal operation and transient state. We examined FRF on its resonance in field and also analyzed a result by finite element method. There was carried out the retrofit in field which was based on these results for solving problem.

  • Recently, the large capacity draft fans in power plants had been changed to variable speed type to educe the power consumption. But the fan experienced the unexpected vibration at specific speed regions. In this study, the high vibration frequency of the fan was confirmed and the natural frequency of the rotor were measured and analyzed by FEM programs. It was analyzed that the vibration was caused by the resonance at the frequency, 30.7Hz. So, the rotor vibration characteristic was changed by adjusting the distance between the shaft bearings. It was conformed the high vibration was disappeared over the all operation speeds.

  • In this study, free vibration analyses of symmetric laminated cantilever and simply supported damaged composite beams are investigated by using finite element method (FEM). Free vibration responses of damaged beams are examined using Euler Bernoulli beam and classical lamination theories. A computer code is developed by using MATLAB software to determine the natural frequencies of a damaged beam. The local damage zone is assumed to be on the surface lamina of the beam by broken fibers after impact. The damaged zone is modeled as a unidirectional discontinuous lamina with $0^{\circ}$ orientations in this study. Fiber volume fraction ($v_f$), fiber aspect ratio ($L_f/d_f$), damage length ($L_D$) and its location (${\lambda}/L$), fiber orientation and stacking sequence parameters effects on natural frequencies are investigated. These parameters are affected the natural frequency values significantly.

  • The landing gear (L/G) handle of an aircraft is an essential piece of equipment for aircraft take-off and landing. The bracket in the landing gear handle was fractured during a vibration test when developing the landing gear handle. This paper summarizes the vibration test procedures performed during landing gear handle development. A cause analysis, design improvements, and verification results of the fault in the vibration test are also provided.

  • Linear motor can directly apply to the system needed linear mot ions without rotary mot ions. To control a high-speed and high-resolution, the development of the linear motors is recently required in the high-integrated and speed process industry. This paper presents vibration analyses as well as measurement standards of the newly developed linear motors through analyzing the vibration characteristics and thermal behaviors of the advanced products. Vibration experiments are conducted for identifying the hysteresis and vibration level during operation. They are also included in the modal test to analyze the vibration. Analytic data using Finite Element Method (FEM) are compared with the results of the modal. Loss of temperature generated the linear motor leads to a serious deformation within its parts. The thermal behaviors are very important factor in linear motor. The FEM and experiments make it possible to understand these characteristics.

  • The effect of structural uncertainties or measurement errors on damage detection results makes the robustness become one of the most important features during identification. Due to the wide use of vibration signatures on damage detection, the development of vibration-based techniques has attracted a great interest. In this work, a review on vibration-based robust detection techniques is presented, in which the robustness is considerably improved through modeling error compensation, environmental variation reduction, denoising, or proper sensing system design. It is hoped that this study can give help on structural health monitoring or damage mitigation control.

  • In order to execute the major role as the high density large capacity data storage device, which is one of the major characteristics of DVD(Digital Versatile Disk), there must be a method to effectively absorb the external impact or internal vibration. The DVD which has been developed until now tries to control two different types of vibrations, using only one absorber. But this goes against the independence Axiom of Axiomatic Approach which makes the design to be coupled. And in fat most of the malfunctions occurring during DVD data input/output is due to impact or vibration. Therefore in this paper, the vibration absorption system and operation reliability of DVD will be evaluated with the Axiomatic Approach and plans and feasibility to design an improved vibration absorption system will be provided also based on the Axiomatic Approach.
