  • Objective: An experiment was conducted to study the effect of a blend of essential oils (BEO) on enteric methane emission and growth performance of buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis). Methods: Twenty one growing male buffaloes (average body weight of $279{\pm}9.3kg$) were divided in to three groups. The animals of all the three groups were fed on a ration consisting of wheat straw and concentrate mixture targeting 500 g daily live weight gain. The three dietary groups were; Group 1, control without additive; Group 2 and 3, supplemented with BEO at 0.15 and 0.30 mL/kg of dry matter intake (DMI), respectively. Results: During six months feeding trial, the intake and digestibility of dry matter and nutrients (organic matter, crude protein, ether extract, neutral detergent fibre, and acid detergent fibre) were similar in all the groups. The average body weight gain was tended to improve (p = 0.084) in Group 2 and Group 3 as compared to control animals. Feeding of BEO did not affect feed conversion efficiency of the animals. The calves of all the three groups were in positive nitrogen balance with no difference in nitrogen metabolism. During respiration chamber studies the methane production (L/kg DMI and L/kg digestible dry matter intake was significantly (p<0.001) lower in Group 2 and Group 3 as compared to control animals. Conclusion: The results indicated that the BEO tested in the present study have shown potential to reduce enteric methane production without compromising the nutrient utilization and animal performance and could be further explored for its use as feed additive to mitigate enteric methane production in livestock.

  • Hematological malignancies (HM) are a group of neoplasms derived from the cells of the bone marrow and lymphatic system. Genetic factors leading to susceptibility to HM have been investigated for years but little is known yet. Low molecular weight polypeptide (LMP) 2 and LMP7 genes are important subunits of the immunoproteasome and play significant role in antigen presentation. The polymorphisms of LMP genes have been reported to be risk factors for various types of diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of LMP2 and LMP7 polymorphisms with the occurrence of particular types of HM. A total of 132 patients with HM and 130 control subjects were investigated. No significant difference was obtained in the distribution of genotype and allele frequencies of LMP7 gene in HM patients and the control group. On the other hand, the prevalence of LMP2-AA genotype was found to be higher in acute myeolid leukemia (AML) patients while it was significantly lower in multiple myeloma (MM) cases than in the control subjects. Our results suggested that LMP7 could not be a risk factor for susceptibility to HM, whereas LMP2 polymorphisms could play a role in the development of AML and MM.

  • We have developed a new fuzzy control method for paper machine basis weight profile. The conventional linear control method has not yielded good results on some machines. This new control method, however, realizes long-term stability and convergence of the profile as good or better than that achieved under manual control by an operator.

  • Manufacturing Message Specification(MMS) was sewed as an International Standard by International Standardization Organization(ISO). MMS is being accepted throughout the world as a solution to communications among multi vendor factory floor environments. This paper describes an implementation of MMS which operates on Application Layer of Open Systems Interconnection(OSI) 7 layer model. MMS was implemented on MSDOS in apersonal computer environment.

  • A cable structures have the advantage that cover a large space without column but it is very sensitive to deal with shape control because of its flexibility. Especially, location of control member and needed elongation of member are important things. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is studied on displacement control technique for pre-stressed cable structures by force method considering order of control. The layout of this paper is as follows. Firstly, in section 2, the control technique by force method for cable structures is given. Secondly, section 3 briefly introduces simple cable net in order to apply control technique considering ordering of actuator. Finally, more complex example for effective member and the conclusion are in section 4 and 5, respectively.

  • Fixed-gain and variable-gain PID control of tension in the winding section of a simple web transport system were evaluated. An open-loop mathematical model for the web transport system was derived and used for the design of the PID controllers. The winding roll radius is a timevarying parameter in the model. The fixed-gain PID controller designed at a particular instant of time could not meet the desired specifications, whereas the variable-gain PID controller could produce accurate tension control in the winding section. An advantage of the variable-gain control is its simplicity. This approach is easy to implement and shows promise for applications where the time-varying parameters are easily measured.

  • The base station transceiver subsystem (BTS) of the CDMA Mobile System is interfaced to mobile stations over the air and to the wired network through a packet switched interconnection network. The potential benefits of CDMA technology are achieved when the transmitter and the receiver are properly designed and implemented. The physical layer of the interface at the base station is implemented with the CDMA ASICs and control circuits in channel card of the BTS. We present the design perspectives and structural illustration of the BTS. Base station modem ASICs and their control to implement the CDMA receiver, Baseband and RF signal processing blocks, and BTS controller are described. Elaborate power control is essential to ensure the high capacity which is one of advantages of the CDMA technology. The closed loop reverse link power control and the forward link power control operated in the BTS are described.

  • In February 6-7th, the Thai National Cancer Institute, the International Agency for Research on Cancer and its Mumbai Hub for Cancer Registration, together with the International Association of Cancer Registries and the APOCP/APJCP, jointly organized an Asian cancer registry forum to discuss regional cooperation for cancer registration. Held in the Grande Mercure Fortune Hotel, Bangkok, the meeting brought together leading scientists in cancer registration from South-East and North-East Asia as well as Australia, India and Iran and IARC itself, with coverage of various priorities and challenges of cancer registries regarding cancer control policy, operational parameters, assessment of survival and contributions to screening, for example. The current situation was highlighted and future directions and possible expansion of activities were discussed, with especial attention to the necessity for networks to help improve cancer registration across Asia and Africa.

  • In this study, a rotor blade of a Curtis turbine is investigated. Bezier curve is generally used to define the profile of turbine blades. However, this curve gives a feature of global control, which is not proper to a supersonic impulse turbine blade. Thus, a blade design method is developed by using B-spline curve so that local control is possible to obtain an optimized blade section. To design a Curtis turbine blade section systematically, the blade section has been changed by varying three design parameters using central composite design method. Flow analyses have been carried out for the blade sections, and the effects of design parameters are evaluated.
