  • This study was performed to investigate the effects of chitosan on the lead poisoning in rats. For this experiment, 15 male Sprague-Dawley rats were used. The experimental groups were divided into five: Control (250 mg/kg lead), Group I (250 mg/kg lead+1% chitosan), Group II (250 mg/kg lead+2% chitosan), Group III(250 mg/kg lead+4% chitosan), Group IV (250 mg/kg lead+8% chitosan). The results were as follows; 1. The lead concentration in the liver showed 3.924~10.217 mg/kg in control group, but treated group was inclined to decrease during the experiment period (P<0.05). 2. The lead concentration in the kidney showed 23.268~31.315 mg/kg in control group, but Experimental group showed 3.765~9.725 mg/kg (Group I), 34.60~9.115 mg/kg (Group II), 3.549~8.816 mg /kg (Group III), 3.502~8.532 mg/kg (Group IV) resectively, also, Experimental group was inclined to decrease compared to control group (P

  • In order to study the effects of commercial fermented milk and Lactobacillus juice on the growth and on blood composition of albino rats, these beverages were administered orally everyday and compared with the control rats. Experimental rats gained weight significantly compare with the control rats within the first week, but the body weights were comparable with the control during the next three weeks. WBC count was increased slightly in the experimental groups, but RBC count, hemoglobin and total serum protein contents were almost the same as that of the control group during the period. Fermented milk was effective in food efficiency ratio and fermented milk and lactobacillus juice were not influenced on any of internal organs weight.

  • This paper presents a new model predictive control method without the effect of a weighting factor in order to reduce common-mode voltage (CMV) for a three-phase voltage source inverter (VSI). By utilizing two active states with same dwell time during a sampling period instead of one state used in conventional method, the proposed method can reduce the CMV of VSI without the weighting factor. Simulation is carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed predictive control method with the aid of PSIM software.

  • This study focuses on a high-performance direct active and reactive power controller design that is successfully applicable to three-phase pulse width modulation (PWM) AC/DC converters used in renewable distributed energy generation systems. The proposed controller can overcome the sluggish transient dynamic response of conventional controllers to rapid power command changes. Desired active and reactive powers can be thoroughly obtained at the end of each PWM period through a deadbeat solution. The proposed controller achieves an exact nonlinear cross-coupling decoupling of system power without using a predefined switching table or bang/bang hysteresis control. A graphical and analytical analysis that naturally leads to a control voltage vector selection is provided to confirm the finding. The proposed control strategy is evaluated on a 3 kW PWM AC/DC converter in the simulation and experiment.

  • A human is an expert in manipulation. We have acquired skills to perform dexterous operations based upon knowledge and experience attained over a long period of time. It is important in robotics to understand these human skills, and utilize them to bring about better robot control and operation It is hoped that the neurocontroller can be trained and organized by simply presenting human teaching data, which implicate human intention, strategy and expertise. In designing a neurocontroller, we must determine the size of neurocontroller. Improper size may not only incur difficulties in training neural nets, e.g. no convergence, but also cause instability and erratic behavior in machines. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the proper size of neurocontroller for human control transfer. In this paper, a new pruning method is developed, based on the penalty-term methods. This method makes ...

  • This paper proposes an effective model predictive current control (MPCC) that involves using 10 virtual voltage vectors to reduce the current harmonics and common-mode voltage (CMV) for a two-level five-phase voltage source inverter (VSI). In the proposed scheme, 10 virtual voltage vectors are included to reduce the CMV and low-order current harmonics. These virtual voltage vectors are employed as the input control set for the MPCC. Among the 10 virtual voltage vectors, two are applied throughout the whole sampling period to reduce current ripples. The two selected virtual voltage vectors are based on location information of the reference voltage vector, and their duration times are calculated using a simple algorithm. This significantly reduces the computational burden. Simulation and experimental results are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

  • This research investigates the potential of Adaptive TMDs for tall building damping. The Adaptive TMD under consideration is based on real-time controlled hydraulic dampers generating purely dissipative control forces. The control approach is designed to enhance the Adaptive TMD efficiency for moderate wind loads with return periods below 50 years. The resulting enhanced TMD efficiency is used to reduce the pendulum mass by 15% compared to the passive TMD while still guaranteeing the acceleration limits of the one and ten year return period winds. Furthermore, the adaptive control approach is designed to disproportionally increase the controlled damping force at wind loads with return periods of 50 years and more in order to reduce the maximum relative motion of the Adaptive TMD with only 85% pendulum mass. Compared to the passive TMD with 100% pendulum mass the maximum relative motion is reduced by 20%. Both the pendulum mass reduction and the maximum relative motion reduction significantly reduce the foot print of the Adaptive TMD which is highly desirable from the economic point of view.

  • In 2015, rapid human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) testing was implemented in all 25 public health centers in Seoul. During March and December 2015, 20,987 rapid HIV tests were performed, of which 116 (0.5%) were positive. Compared to those of the period before application of the rapid HIV test in place of conventional enzyme immunoassay method, the number of HIV tests performed and the number of positive results increased by sevenfold and twofold, respectively. In conclusion, expansion of the provision of rapid HIV tests in public health centers increased the number of voluntary HIV tests.
