  • This study was carried out to develop a fuzzy control technique of ventilation window for controlling a temperature in a greenhouse. To reduce the fuzzy variables, the inside air temperature shop was taken as one of fuzzy variables, because the inside air temperature variation of a greenhouse by ventilation at the same window aperture is affected by difference between inside and outside air temperature, outside wind speed and the wind direction. Therefore, the antecedent variables for fuzzy algorithm were used the control error and its slop, which was same value as the inside air temperature slop during the control period, and the conclusion variable was used the window aperture opening rate. Through the basic and applicative control experiment with the control period of 3 minutes the optimum ranges of fuzzy variables were decided. The control error and its slop were taken as 3 and 1.5 times compared with target error in steady state, and the window opening rate were taken as 30% of full size of the window aperture. To evaluate the developed fuzzy algorithm in which the optimized 19 rules of fuzzy production were used, the performances of fuzzy control and PID control were compared. The temperature control errors by the fuzzy control and PID control were lower than 1.3$^{\circ}C$ and 2.2$^{\circ}C$ respectively. The accumulated operating size of the window, the number of operating and the number of inverse operating for the fuzzy control were 0.4 times, 0.5 times and 0.3 times of those compared with the PID control. Therefore, the fuzzy control can operating the window more smooth and reduce the operating energy by 1/2 times of PID control.

  • 'Gonji10ho', a new variety of Neolentinus lepideus, was bred by mating two monokaryotic strains isolated from 'GMNL66037' and 'GMNL66014' in Mushroom Research Institute, Gyonggi-Do ARES in 2012. The optimum temperature for the mycelial growth of 'Gonji10ho' was $29^{\circ}C$ on PDA medium and that for the primordia formation and the growth of fruiting body of 'Gonji10ho' was $20{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. In bottle cultivation of 'Gonji10ho', the period of spawn running was around 35 days at $22{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ and the period from scratching of inoculum to harvesting was 27 days. 'Gonji10ho' had thicker pileus and stipe than control variety('Solhyang'). The number of available stipe was fewer than that of control variety. During the cultivation of 'Conji10ho', the occurrence rate of Trichoderma spp. was lower than that in control variety. In bottle cultivation, the yield of fruiting bodies of 'Gonji10ho', which was 38% higher than that of control variety, was 69.6 g/900 ml bottle, and in bag cultivation, that of 'Gonji10ho', which was 10% higher than that of control variety, was 114.2 g/1 kg bag. In physical characteristics, the strongness and brittleness of the pileus of 'Gonji10ho' were higher than those of control variety. When considered in the period available for sale, the shelf life of 'Gonji10ho', which was 5 days longer than that of control variety, was 34 days.

  • We studied temperature sensitivity characteristics of soil respiration during periods of rising and falling temperatures within a common temperature range. We measured soil respiration continuously through two periods (a period of falling temperature, from August 7, 2003 to October 13, 2003; and a period of rising temperature from May 2, 2004 to July 2, 2004) using an open-top chamber technique. A clear exponential relationship was observed between soil temperature and soil respiration rate during both periods. However, the effects of soil water content were not significant, because the humid monsoon climate prevented soil drought, which would otherwise have limited soil respiration. We analyzed temperature sensitivity using the $Q_{10}$ value and $R_{ref}$ (reference respiration at the average temperature for the observation period) and found that these values tended to be higher during the period of rising temperature than during the period of falling temperature. In the absence of an effect on soil water content, several other factors could explain this phenomenon. Here, we discuss the factors that control temperature sensitivity of soil respiration during periods of rising and falling temperature, such as root respiration, root growth, root exudates, and litter supply. We also discuss how the contribution of these factors may vary due to different growth states or due to the effects of the previous season, despite a similar temperature range.

  • Wood deterioration experiments were carried out for 6 months in an intertidal zone of South Korea to monitor the changes in the chemical properties of two types of species, Korean red pine and sawtooth oak. The results of FT-IR spectra and XRD patterns have shown that the chemical properties of the wood did not change significantly during the 6-month burial period. However, the brightness of the surface decreased after burial; the value of the sawtooth oak sample was lower than that of the Korean red pine sample owing to an accumulation of inorganic compounds in cell lumen as observed by ICP analysis. Among the inorganic compounds, sodium and sulfur concentrations increased significantly over the burial period compared with the control. Further, the maximum moisture content decreased from 199% to 136% in the Korean red pine and 62% to 60% for the sawtooth oak. Nevertheless, the major chemical composition of both the wood species did not change significantly during the 6-month burial period, whereas, the crystallinity decreased with an increasing burial period owing to an accumulation of inorganic compounds in the lumen.

  • For optimal reservoir operation during flood period, a general and systematic policy is suggested to make balance of the conflicting purposes between water conservation and flood control. The purpose of this study is to decide the restricted water level of the reservoir during flood period specially to meet water demand in non-flood period. The optimal policy is derived by reallocation of storage capacity through the application of variable restricted water level(VRWL) and minimum required water level(MRWL) for shorter intervals. This study also suggests water level dconditions to secure conservation storage capacity at the end of the flood period estimated by reservoir operation study. This paper illustrates an application of the Daecheong Dam and Chungju Dam respectively during flood and the results are reviewed.

  • The ethanolic extract of Leucas aspera root was studied for its effect on the central nervous system (CNS) using pentobarbitone induced sleeping time test, the open field test and the hole cross test in Swiss albino mice. The present investigation revealed that the extract at the doses of 250 and 500 mg/kg, significantly prolonged the pentobarbitone induced sleeping time in mice though the onset of sleep was delayed as compared to control. In open field test the depressing effect was prominent from the second observation period (30 min) and persisted throughout the entire experimental period (240 min). In the hole cross test, the depressing effect was observed significant from the third observation period (60 min) and persisted up to the seventh observation period (240 min) except at fourth observation (90 min) for 250 mg dose group and depressing effect was significant from second observation (30 min) up to seventh observation period (240 min) for 500 mg dose group. These results support the finding that Leucas aspera root may contain biologically active constituent(s) having CNS activity.

  • In this paper, the period for the strength correction was determined with each region of south Korea based on the meteorological data of KMA(Korea meteorological administration) by applying KASS-5 regulation. In case of 28 days of strength control age, the period for strength correction with 6MPa was calculated to 50-60 days and, with 3 MPa. to around 80 days. The period for the strength correction was shown to be decreased with the rise of altitude. The period to consider the delay of the strength development due to low temperature including the period of cold weather concrete was nearly 7 months around 1 year. References for determining the strength correction factors with each region of south Korea was provided in this paper.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of syrup medication for asthmatic children on the salivary invertase activity and caries experience. 26 ashmatic children for the study group and 30 healthy children for the control group were selected, respectively. Caries experience was examined and salivary reductase activity was tested. The parents of asthmatic children were asked to fill in the questionaire about syrup intake period and home dental behavior, and the parents of healthy children were asked to fill in the same questionaire without syrup intake period. The results were as follows : 1. The ds index of asthmatic children were higher than that of healthy children(P < 0.05). 2. There was significant difference in dt index between the intake period of 'shorter than 10 months' and 'longer than 20 months'. The ds, dft and dfs indices had a tendency to increase as the intake period increased. 3. The salivary reductase activity had a tendency to increase as the intake period of syrup increased.

  • The methanol extract of Diospyros peregrina bark was studied for its effect on the central nervous system (CNS) using the pentobarbitone induced sleeping time test, the open field test and the hole cross test in Swiss albino mice. The present investigation revealed that the extract, at the doses of 250 and 500 mg/kg, significantly prolonged the pentobarbitone induced sleeping time in mice though the onset of sleep was delayed as compared to the control. In open field test, the depressing effect was prominent from the second observation period (30 min) and persisted throughout the entire experimental period (240 min). In the hole cross test, the depressing effect was observed from the second observation period (30 min) and persisted up to fifth observation period (120 min) for 250 mg dose group and up to sixth observation period (180 min) for 500 mg dose group. These results support the finding that D. peregrina bark extract at the above doses has CNS depressing effects and indicate that D. peregrina bark may contain biologically active constituent(s) having CNS depressant activity.
