Comparison of Sensory and Mechanica] Properties of Breads with Paecilomyces japonica and Cordyceps militaris powder by Storage Time and Temperature (눈꽃과 번데기 동충하초 첨가 식빵의 저장기간과 온도에 따른 관능적.기계적 특성 비교)

  • The quality characteristics of breads with different concentrations(2%, 4%) of Paecilomyces japonica (J2, J4) and Cordyceps militaris (M2, M4) powder were compared in terms if sensory and mechanical properties. In the sensory test, J2 and M2 groups gained good scores in taste, texture and odor acceptance as control grourp. Paecilomyces japonica-added group showed higher moisture and bigger volume than that of control group, and Cordyceps militaris group showed lower moisture content and decreasing volume. 'L' values of J and M groups was lower than control, and the longer the storage period, the lower the lightness. The more Paecilomyces japonica was added, the higher the 'a' value was, but Cordyceps militaris showed an opposite trend. The hardness of the bread was the lowest in J2 group and the highest in M4 group, and the longer tile storage period. the higher the hardness was (p<.001). Overall, the addition of 2% Paecilomyces japonica showed a similar tendency with control group, and showed good scores especially in acceptance, moisture and volume. Paecilomyces japonica appeared to be more desirable than Cordyceps militaris.

  • Extract of Japanese red pine needles has been used in Asia pacific regions since long periods believing its valuable properties as tonic and ability of curing diseases of unidentified symptoms. Some selective compounds present in the extract and their effects were analyzed. Carbohydrates and vitamin c were identified using HPLC; terpenoid compounds by GC-MS; anti-bacterial analysis by paper discs, plates count and gastrointestinal motility by whole cell patch clamp. The extract is a mixture of compounds therefore its diverse effect was expected. Self-fermentation in extract proceeds after spontaneous appearance of yeast strains without inoculation. Effects and composition of the extract vary with varying period of self-fermentation. Extract inhibits the growth of bacteria dose dependently exhibiting its antibacterial properties however effectiveness increases with increase in fermentation period. The extract also can modulate gastrointestinal motility in murine small intestine by modulating pace maker currents in ICC mediated through ATP sensitive potassium channel.

A Study on the Perception of Infection Control in Ultrasound Diagnostic Room (초음파검사실 감염관리 인식에 대한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the infection prevention system and infection management perception of Ultrasound diagnostic room in medical institutions by sonographer's in general practitioner, semi and general hospitals. As a research method, a statistical analysis was conducted by surveying a total of 20 items in four category to determine the infection perception of sonographer's according to gender, age, working institution, and working period. As a result of infection awareness, males were in the ultrasound gel management category, women were in the transducer management category, all age groups were in the transducer management system category, and the General Practitioner, semi and general hospitals. were in the transducer management system category, and general hospitals showed a high degree of infection awareness in the category of disinfection and sterilization, and in the category of transducer management in the entire working period. In the results of the analysis of the correlation between the sub-factors of the perception of infection control in the Ultrasound diagnostic room the degree of correlation between each category showed a middle degree correlation(r>0.5) and a significant difference by category(p<.01). In conclusion, the prevention of infection in the ultrasound diagnostic room, which sonographer's firms think, was found to be the most efficient ultrasound diagnostic room infection control to implement transducer and gel management in accordance with the principles of disinfection and sterilization.

Delay Analysis of Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Resolution

  • To improve the efficiency of carrier sense multiple access (CSMA)-based medium access control (MAC) protocols, CSMA with collision resolution (CSMA/CR) has been proposed. In the CSMA/CR, a transmitting station can detect a collision by employing additional sensing after the start of a data transmission and then resolve the next collision that might occur by broadcasting a jam signal during a collision detection (CD) period. In this paper, we analyze the delay of a CSMA/CR based on a generic p- persistent CSMA model and obtain the minimum achievable delay of the CSMA/CR by finding the optimal length of the CD period according to the number of contending stations. Through this delay analysis, we also investigate the throughput-delay characteristics of the CSMA/CR protocol according to various parameters. Analysis and simulation results show that the CSMA/CR has a considerably lower delay and its throughput-delay characteristic is significantly improved than the conventional CSMA/CA and wireless CSMA/CD protocols.

Effects of Postpartum Exercise on Mental Health (산후운동이 산욕부의 정신건강에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study was to examine the effect of postpartum exercise on mental health. Mental health comprises a 9 symptom dimension of Somatization, Obsessive-Compulsive, Interpersonal Sensitivity, Depression, Anxiety, Hostility, Phobic anxiety, Paranoid Ideation, and Psychoticism. Method: A non-equivalent pre-test, post-test control group study was conducted. Fifty-two puerperal women who were admitted to a postpartum ward of a mother-baby clinic in Pusan were recruited; 26 women were assigned to the experimental group and 26 women to the control group. Postpartum exercise was applied to the experimental group from postpartum day 3 for a period of 8 weeks while no exercise program was applied to the control group. Mental health with SCL-90-R was measured before and after exercise. Data was analyzed using mean, $x^2$-test, t-test, and ANOVA by SPSS 10.0. Result: The mental health status in the exercise group did not show a statistically significant decrease when compared to that of the control group. Conclusion: There is no effect of postpartum exercise on women's mental health during the first 8 weeks of the postpartum period. Further studies are needed for randomized clinical trials with a larger sample size.

Effects of Low and Alternated Temperature Treatments on Quality of Oak Mushroom in Sawdust Culture (표고 톱밥 재배에서 저온 및 변온 처리가 표고 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • Recently the sawdust culture of Lentinus edodes(Berk.) has been gradually extended replacing the log cultivation in Korea. It is indeed able to reduce the use of log and cultivation period in controlled facilities, but is not yet able to produce the high-quality mushroom. The objectives of this study were to examine the effects of low and alternated temperature treatments during the fruiting period on the quality of oak mushroom. At low temperature treatments of 1$^{\circ}C$ and 10$^{\circ}C$, the crack, lightness, hardness, and other characteristics for the high-quality oak mushroom were not improved. However, the crack, brightness, and hardness of cap were increased at alternated temperatures of 5-10$^{\circ}C$ than the other temperature treatments. In conclusion, the alternated temperature treatments were more effective than the low temperature treatment for improving the indices of high-quality oak mushroom such as the crack, brightness and hardness of cap.

Distribution Impact of Rent Control on Seoul Market Rents during the COVID-19

  • After the outbreak of the COVID-19 in the early 2020, Korea has attempted to reinforce the existing rent controls to help the low-income households. From July 2000, the tenants' right of lease renewal came into effect, as a policy tool to enforce the upper bound percentage of rent increases within Korea. Purpose: This study aims to examine the impact of rent control on the uncontrolled rents in Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA). Research design, data and methodology: The study regresses the monthly panel data from 58 municipalities in SMA from January 2020 to March 2022, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results: The data indicates that the policy had the effect of lowering rents for a period of two months, and subsequently monetary policy including quantitative easing and low interest rates, coupled with asset market bubbles lead to rent increases. During the sample data period, the quantity of money supply increased by 12.6% and CPI rose by 3.0%, these phenomena collectively increased the rents by up to 14.7%. Conclusions: The results of the present study support the findings of earlier studies in part: namely, that rent control without the government's steps to stabilize the property price may have an undesirable effect on rental tenants.

Application of Temporary Tongue-Lip Traction During the Initial Period of Mandibular Distraction in Pierre Robin Sequence (피에르로빈 연속증에서 골연장술의 초기에 일시적인 혀-하순 견인술의 적용)

  • Purpose: There are 3 well-known surgical procedures to treat Pierre Robin sequence: tongue-lip adhesion, distraction osteogenesis of mandible, and tracheostomy. The classical tongue-lip adhesion is an effective way to keep airway. The tongue, however, becomes quite non-mobile and appears dormant until the patient could control upper airway and the adhesion can be maintained for prolonged period. Most of all, this procedure does not provide the correction of the micrognathia. Distraction osteogenesis is a good technique to correct micrognathia and to prevent tracheostomies in patients with Pierre Robin sequence. But airway keeping procedure is needed during the distraction period. The purpose of this study is to determine the usefulness of temporary tongue-lip traction during the initial period of mandibular distraction in Pierre Robin sequence patients with severe airway problems requiring operative procedure. Methods: It was a prospective study of 2 Pierre Robin sequence patients aged between 4 months and 6 months requiring surgical procedure to correct recurrent and severe pulmonary complications. Two patients underwent distraction osteogenesis of mandible. During the operation, deep one tension suture was performed to tract the tongue and lip. When the patient gained control of upper airway at the initial period of distraction and micrognathia was corrected, the traction suture was removed. Results: All patients were followed up. No patients complained severe pulmonary complications and tracheostomy could be avoided. No patients had severe pulmonary complication. The pulmonary condition of patients was good. Conclusion: In severe Pierre Robin sequence case, temporary tongue-lip traction is a good assistant method in distraction osteogenesis because this method can avoid tracheostomy.

Effect of Supplemental Chromium Levels on Performance, Digestibility and Carcass Characteristics of Transport-stressed Lambs

  • A trial was conducted to study the effect of supplemental chromium (Cr) levels from a Cr-yeast source on performance, digestibility and carcass characteristics of transport-stressed lambs. Forty-eight Naemi lambs (avg. BW 31.7 kg) were transported by truck for a distance of 1,450 km. On arrival day, the lambs were randomly allocated to four groups receiving diets supplemented with 0.0, 0.3, 0.6 or 0.9 ppm Cr. Each group consisted of four separately housed replicates of three lambs each. The lambs were fed their respective diets ad libitum for 84 d (21 d stress period, followed by 63 d growing period). Road transit of lambs resulted in a decreased (p<0.001) live body weight of 8.5%. Supplementation of Cr-yeast did not alter the performance of lambs during the stress period. Linear and quadratic increases (p<0.05) were observed in DMI and ADG, respectively, with increasing supplemental Cr levels in the diets during the growing period. Values were greater (p<0.05) by 14.7% and 20.8%, respectively, for lambs fed 0.3 ppm Cr compared to control, while those fed on the other two levels were intermediate. Over the 84-d feeding period, a trend was noted towards a slight increase in loin eye area and a decrease in body wall fat thickness for lambs fed Cr supplementation compared to the control group. This study suggests that the supplementation of Cr-yeast, especially at 0.3 ppm level, is beneficial for improving the performance of growing lambs whether the animals are stressed or not.

Performance Modeling and Evaluation of IEEE 802.15.4 Collision Free Period for Batch Traffic (배치 트래픽 특성을 고려한 IEEE 802.15.4 비경합구간 성능 모델링 및 평가)

  • In this paper, we performed the analysis of transmission performance for Collision Free Period(CFP) supported by the low-power communication technology, IEEE 802.15.4 MAC (Media Access Control). For the analysis, periodic traffic, original service target of CFP, is considered and, according to the Quality of Service required, packet arrival pattern to MAC layer is categorized as batch and non-batch, and analysis on throughput, delay, and energy is performed for those patterns. On the basis of the obtained analysis, performance comparison with Collision Avoidance Period(CAP) is carried out for the health care applications that generate periodic traffic such as Pedometer, ECG, EMG. The evaluation confirms that CFP is more energy efficient for healthcare applications that generate periodic and time-critical traffic and moreover for the application with high bandwidth requirement CFP achieves up to 46% energy savings compared to CAP.
