  • This paper presents a design experience of supervisory control system for agile and intelligent manufacturing(AIM). For effectively program job instructions, a Petri net-type graphical language is proposed and it can be applied to a various task such as concurrency and synchronization. PGL is consisted of PGL editor, PGL analyzer and PGL translator; PGL editor generates a job instruction program using graphic symbol. PGL analyzer prevents a deadlock or resource allocation of unit cell. PGL translator transfers to adequate sequential job commands of each unit cell.

  • We have designed and simulated an 1-bit ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit) by using a half adder. An ALU is the part of a computer processor that carries out arithmetic and logic operations on the operands in computer instruction words. The designed ALU had limited operation functions of OR, AND, XOR, and ADD. It had a pipeline structure. We constructed an 1-bit ALU by using only one half adder and three control switches. We designed the control switches in two ways, dc switch and NDRO (Non Destructive Read Out) switch. We used dc switches because they were simple to use. NDRO pulse switches were used because they can be easily controlled by control signals of SET and RESET and show fast response time. The simulation results showed that designed circuits operate correctly and the circuit minimum margins were +/-27%. In this work, we used simulation tools of XIC and WRSPICE. The circuit layouts were also performed. The circuits are being fabricated.

  • This study is intended to investigate the effect on the development of multiplicative thinking and multiplicative ability by teaching repeated addition, rate, comparison, area-array, and combination problems. Two research questions are established: first, is there any difference of multiplicative thinking between the experimental group(the modeling of problem situation learning group) and the control group(the traditional learning group)\ulcorner Second, is there any difference of multiplicative ability between the experimental group and the control group\ulcorner The treatment process for the experimental group is based on modeling problem situations for nine lesson periods. In order to answer the research questions the chi-square analysis was used for the first research question and the t-test was used for the second one. The findings are summarized as follows: there is no significant difference of multiplicative thinking be1ween the experimental and the control group but there is significant difference of multiplicative ability.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel reconfigurable processor using dynamically partitioned single-instruction multiple-data (DP-SIMD) which is able to process multimedia data. The SIMD processor and parallel SIMD (P-SIMD) processor, which is composed of a number of SIMD processors, are usually used these days. But these processors are inefficient because all processing units (PUs) should process the same operations all the time. Moreover, the PUs can process different operations only when every SIMD group operation is predefined. We propose a processor control method which can partition parallel processors into multiple SIMD-based processors dynamically to enhance efficiency. For performance evaluation of the proposed method, we carried out the inverse transform, inverse quantization, and motion compensation operations of H.264 using processors based on SIMD, P-SIMD, and DP-SIMD. Experimental results show that the DP-SIMD control method is more efficient than SIMD and P-SIMD control methods by about 15% and 14%, respectively.

  • The present study is devoted to the development of a simplified teaching method whereby the control data of the 3-dimensional operations of a playback-type trial robot can be stored in a personal computer. The control data of the 3-dimensional operations are given using an instruction wand handled by an operator. The operator's task is only to track a desired robot path with the wand. The 3-dimensional position of the wand are measured by ultrasonic devices, the principle of which was developed for this study and is introduced in detail. In order to clarify the applicability of this method, experts were performed with respect to a continuous-path teaching and a pick-and-place task teaching which are typical jobs of robot operators.

  • The purpose of this study is two-fold: first, to examine the current status of e-dictionary use in Korea and the attitude toward its use by Korean college students; second, to investigate to what degree e-dictionaries may be useful and effective tools in helping to improve learners' overall English skills. The subjects were 84 college students and they were divided into two groups: the experiment group and the control group. The instrument employed was the Preliminary Student Usage Questionnaire, which was developed by the researcher, together with the questionnaire survey developed by Koyama and Takeuchi (2004), which was modified for the study. The findings from this research are as follows: First, a special instruction session on how to use e-dictionaries made a statistically significant difference among users of the dictionaries. Those subjects who had received the instruction displayed a more positive attitude toward the use of e-dictionaries. Second, the experiment group showed a more favorable attitude toward the use of e-dictionaries. On the basis of the above results, the researcher suggests that proper guidance on the use of e-dictionaries and their benefits should have a positive influence on users. The findings from the current research will shed light on the current status of electronic dictionary use among Korean college students.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the ways in which CALL apply to enhance the motivational aspects of second language learning. Theories relevant to social, cognitive, and affective foundations of motivation are first reviewed to demonstrate the important role of motivational influences in improving learners' affect and achievements. Then, implications arising from such theories in strengthening the motivational aspects of CALL are explicated in the second part. With the spread of computer technology in language classrooms, the innovative role of CALL in the development and maintenance of intrinsic motivation can be illustrated. Specifically, CALL may provide cognitively supportive instruction geared towards improving students' performance. Also, it has been reported from the affective perspective that CALL can captivate learners' attention, promote their feelings and expectations of success, improve perceptions of control, and increase positive attributions to effort and ability. Finally, from a social learning perspective, CALL may enhance learners' self-efficacy and foster their achievement and positive affect through social interactions, proximal goal-setting, and attributional feedback. In the framework of CALL, students seem to be benefited by the immediacy and authenticity of contact with target languages and cultures made at their choices and decisions.

  • It is general that the ICAI(Intelligent Computer Assisted Instruction) consists of 4 modules. Export module, Teacher module, Student module and Interface module. In each module construction, there should be some rules to control strategies efficiently and systematically that are related to the texts and assessment instruments, assessment results and evaluation, feedback, etc. It is necessary to use a method to classify the curriculum into sections with units and to represent the identified relationships between them. These relationships are available to all the process of learning, assessment, evaluation and feedback. In this paper, we propose the method to represent these units and relationships as a graph. In addition, we implement an internet-based courseware authoring tool to support the environment in which several expert can construct concurrently the courseware with cooperation between them.

  • An energy of applications had consumed through the complexed inter-action with operating systems, run-time environments, compiler, and applications on various mobile devices. In these days, challenged researches are studying to reduce of energy consumptions that uses energy-oriented high-level and low-level compiler techniques on mobile devices. In this paper, we intented to reduce an energy consumption of Java mobile applications that applied a list instruction scheduling for energy dissipation from dalvik bytecode which extracted Android dex files. Through this works, we can construct the optimized power and energy environment on mobile devices with the limited power supply.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of utilizing concept maps in a rock-related unit. To do this, two groups composed of 73 sixth grade students engaged in this study. One group (experimental group) participated in utilizing concept maps in the unit, the other (control group) took part in traditional instruction in the same unit. The results of this study are as follows, after seventeen sessions: First, the achievement between the two groups showed significant difference. It indicates that utilizing concept maps as an instructional method is effective. Second, in the examination of the experimental group's attitudes toward concept maps, the students showed more affirmative responses on cognitive items than on affective items. Third, the students showed that they have difficulty in the method and the procedure of drawing up the concept maps. It indicates that the method and the procedure are sufficiently learned before instruction begins.
