  • As energy-saving techniques based on human behavior patterns have recently become an issue, the occupant-centered control system is adopted for estimating personal preference of indoor environment and optimizing environmental comfort and energy consumption. Accordingly, IoT devices have been used to collect indoor environmental quality (IEQ) data and personal data. However, the need to safely collect and manage data has been emerged due to cybersecurity issues. Therefore, this paper aims to present a framework that can safely transmit occupant-centered data collected from IoT to a private blockchain server using Hyperledger fabric. In the case study, the minimum value product of the mobile application and smartwatch application was developed to evaluate the usability of the proposed blockchain-based occupant-centered data collection framework. The results showed that the proposed framework could collect data safely and hassle-free in the daily life of occupants. In addition, the performance of the blockchain server was evaluated in terms of latency and throughput when ten people in a single office participated in the proposed data collection framework. Future works will further apply the proposed data collection framework to the building management system to automatically collect occupant data and be used in the HVAC system to reduce building energy consumption without security issues.

  • A control chart is very useful in monitoring various production process. There are many situations in which the simultaneous control of two or more related quality variables is necessary. When the joint distribution of the process variables is multivariate normal, multivariate Shewhart control charts using the function of the maximum likelihood estimator for monitoring the dispersion matrix are considered for the simultaneous monitoring of the dispersion matrix. The performances of the multivariate Shewhart control charts based on the proposed control statistic are evaluated in term of average run length (ARL). The performance is investigated in three cases, where the variances, covariances, and variances and covariances are changed respectively. The numerical results show that the performances of the proposed multivariate Shewhart control charts are not better than the control charts using the trace of the covariance matrix in the Jeong and Cho (2012) in terms of the ARLs.

  • These fields are integrated to visualize and finalize the proposed development, in simulation environment. SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) systems and distributed control systems (DCSs) are widely deployed in all over the world, which are designed to control the industrial infrastructures, in real ways. To supervise and control the various parts of designed systems; trends to require a deep knowledge to understand the overall functional needs of industries, which could be a big challenge. Industrial field devices (or network sensors) are usually distributed in many locations and are controlled from centralized site (or main control center); the communication provides various signs of security issues. To handle these issues, the research contribution will twofold: a method using cryptography is deployed in critical systems for security purposes and overall transmission is controlled from main controller site. At controller site, multimedia components are employed to control the overall transmission graphically, such as system communication, bytes flows, security embedded parameters and others, by the means of multimedia technology.

  • This study is concerned with design of EWMA control charts for counted data. Control charts for the fraction defective and the number of defects are designed. Performance analysis is accomplished for validity of the designed EWMA control charts. Average run length(ARL) is adopted as a criterion for comparison. Simulation results show that the designed EWMA control charts have shorter ARL than pn, p and c control charts when the fraction nonconforming or the average defect number are shifted. This means that the designed control charts can detect the out of -control state of the process more fastly than the traditional control charts.

  • This study presents the unit control of a PC (Personal Computer) program using multiple smartphones based on ad hoc communication. A design of the data packet that multiple smartphones send to a computer, and a framework that manages and controls the unit in a computer after analyzing the data packet, are proposed. As a result, multiple users are able to control their own units using their smartphones while seeing the monitor connected to a computer. In other words, multiple users can share the same game in a computer or control their units embedded in a system using their smartphones. An experimental result shows that a racing game in a PC can be realized by the proposed communication interface, where four iPhones are used to control their units in a computer. Thus, the proposed framework can be effectively used for unit control in a PC using multiple smartphones.

  • In the manufacturing process the most widely used $\bar{X}$ chart has been applied to control the process mean. Also, Accelerated Life Test(ALT) is commonly used for efficient assurance of product life in development phases, which can be applied in production reliability acceptance test. When life data has lognormal distribution, through censored ALT design so that censored ALT data has asymptotic normal distribution, $ALT\bar{X}$ control chart integrating $\bar{X}$ chart and ALT procedure could be applied to control the mean of process in the manufacturing process. In the situation that process variation is controlled, $Z_p$ control chart is an effective method for the very small fraction nonconforming of quality characteristic. A simultaneous control scheme with $ALT\bar{X}$ control chart and $Z_p$ control chart is designed for the very small fraction nonconforming of product lifetime.

  • This paper presents the case that the existing analog control systems were retrofitted with digital DCS(Distributed Control System)s for boiler unit in thermal power plant. Replacement of existing worn-out or obsolete analog control systems has been considered. Replacement of existing analog control systems with another analog control systems has lots of difficulties in maintaining the systems due to being out of stock. Due to those difficulties, existing analog control systems have been retrofitted with digital DCSs in many industrial sites. KEPRI(Korea Electric Power Research Institute) accomplished the project that retrofitted analog control systems with the developed DCSs for boiler unit in middle-scale coal-fired thermal power plant. The benefits of an upgrade to digital control include a increase of reliability due to system redundancy, ease of modifying the control logic and the parameters of function block, ease of maintenance due to available spare parts, improvement of information display, ease of modifying MMI(Man Machine Interface) displays, a increase in system availability, and improvement of control performance. This paper describes how to use the parameters of existing analog controllers, the implementation of digital PID controller, control system configuration for boiler unit in thermal power plant, some boiler control loops, control result during commissioning, and the comparison of boiler characteristic test data after retrofitting with the existing test data.

  • A real-time quality control algorithm for $PM_{10}$ concentration measured by Continuous Ambient Particulate Monitor (FH62C14, Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc.) has been developed. The quality control algorithm for $PM_{10}$ data consists of five main procedures. The first step is valid value check. The values should be within the acceptable range limit. Upper ($5,000{\mu}g\;m^{-3}$) and lower ($0{\mu}g\;m^{-3}$) values of instrument detectable limit have to be eliminated as being unrealistic. The second step is valid error check. Whenever unusual condition occurs, the instrument will save error code. Value having an error code is eliminated. The third step is persistence check. This step checks on a minimum required variability of data during a certain period. If the $PM_{10}$ data do not vary over the past 60 minutes by more than the specific limit ($0{\mu}g\;m^{-3}$) then the current 5-minute value fails the check. The fourth step is time continuity check, which is checked to eliminate gross outlier. The last step is spike check. The spikes in the time series are checked. The outlier detection is based on the double-difference time series, using the median. Flags indicating normal and abnormal are added to the raw data after quality control procedure. The quality control algorithm is applied to $PM_{10}$ data for Asian dust and non-Asian dust case at Seoul site and dataset for the period 2013~2014 at 26 sites in Korea.

  • A machine vision system (MVS) is a computer system that utilizes one or more image-capturing devices to provide image data for analysis and interpretation. Recently there have been a number of industrial- and medical-device applications where control charts have been proposed for use with image data. The use of image-based control charting is somewhat different from traditional control charting applications, and these differences can be attributed to several factors, such as the type of data monitored and how the control charts are applied. In this paper, we investigate the adjustment effect of image size and region of interest (ROI) size, when we use control charts to monitor grayscale image data in industry.

  • Background: Through the analysis of clinical data, we attempted to investigate the etiology and determine the risk of severe iatrogenic lingual nerve injuries in the removal of the mandibular third molar. Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed for patients who had undergone microsurgical repair of lingual nerve injuries. The following data were collected and analyzed: patient sex, age, nerve injury side, type of impaction (Winter's classification, Pell and Gregory's classification). Ratios for the respective lingual nerve injury group data were compared with the ratios of the respective data for the control group, which consisted of data collected from the literature. The data for the control group included previous patients that encountered various complications during the removal of the mandibular third molar. Results: The lingual nerve injury group consisted of 24 males and 58 females. The rate of female patients with iatrogenic lingual nerve injuries was significantly higher than the control groups. Ages ranged from 15 to 67 years, with a mean age of 36.5 years old. Lingual nerve injury was significantly higher in the patient versus the control groups in age. The lingual nerve injury was on the right side in 46 and on the left side in 36 patients. There was no significant difference for the injury side. The distoangular and horizontal ratios were the highest in our lingual nerve injury group. The distoangular impaction rate in our lingual nerve injury group was significantly higher than the rate for the control groups. Conclusion: Distoangular impaction of the mandibular third molar in female patients in their 30s, 40s, and 50s may be a higher risk factor of severe lingual nerve injury in the removal of mandibular third molars.
