  • This study analyzed the influence of paste fluidity and vibration time for fundamental properties of porous concrete. Results of this study were shown as follows; 1) Even if target void ratio is same, void ratio and compressive strength of porous concrete is different according to w/c, paste flow and vibration time. So, In case of target void ratio, we must consider the influence of w/c, paste flow, and vibration time. 2) Though w/c and vibration time are same, as paste flow increase, all void ratio, continuous void ratio, and compressive strength decrease and difference between upper and lower void ratio increase. 3) Though w/c and paste flow are same, as vibration time increase, all void ratio and continuous void ratio decrease and difference between upper and lower void ratio increase. Also, compressive strength increase by 10 seconds and decease after 10 seconds. 4) As types of superplasticizer is different, all void ratio, continuous void ratio, and compressive strength are different. So, we must give consideration to paste fluidity and vibration time in order that increase of strength of porous concrete and distribution of uniform void.

  • Limestone mine waste was used as a aggregate far permeable concrete. Void ratio, continuous void ratio, coefficient of permeability, compressive strength and flexural strength of concrete were measured and then the relationship between porosity and strength properties was investigated. Void ratio, continuous void ratio and strength properties of permeable concrete were greatly influenced by the grain size of aggregate and void filling ratio in comparison with the containing ratio of limestone mine waste. Furthermore, void ratio showed a good relation with continuous void ratio, and porosity of permeable concrete indicated a good relation with strength properties also. The coefficient of permeability of permeable concrete using limestone waste was over 0.2 cm/sec and was excellent result in comparison with normal concrete. Therefore, it could be expected that the limestone mine waste would be utilized as aggregate for pavement concrete, green concrete and water resource specie concrete in the results of this study.

  • Sound absorbing performance is affected by porosity and continuity of void, therefore it is important to maintain stabilization of foam and to analyze properties of void pore in hardened state. The purpose of this study is to analyze the sound absorption properties and void characteristic of foamed concrete according to dilution ratio of foaming agent. The results of this experiment were as follows. It is determined that an increase in total and continuous void ratio is achieved by increasing of dilution ratio, and a shorter absorbing time was exhibited at a higher continuous void ratio. When the average void size of foamed concrete was below 1.5mm, the tendency of sound absorption coefficient compared with general sound absorber was appeared similarly.

  • In rainy weather, permeable concrete pavement has advantages such as good drainage, increased skid resistance, reduced splash and spray behind vehicles for improving the safety of driving vehicles as well as reduction of the traffic noise. It also contributes to improvement of traffic environment. In this study, the fundamental properties of permeable concrete in accordance with maximum size of aggregate, sand percentage and unit cement content were investigated for practical use of permeable concrete pavement. Although the permeability standard for typical permeable asphalt-concrete pavement is $1{\times}10^{-2}cm/sec$, the researchers determined that the coefficient of permeability of the permeable concrete should be set higher at $1{\times}10^{-1}cm/sec$. Then, the researchers measured the coefficient of permeability, strength, void ratio, and continuous void ratio of the permeable concrete while varying maximum size of the aggregate, sand percentage, unit cement content for detailed analysis. It was found that the void ratio, continuous void ratio, and flexural strength were about 15%, 12%, and 5.0MPa, respectively, when the permeability of the concrete was set at $1{\times}10^{-1}cm/sec$. Given that the maximum size of aggregate was $10{\sim}13mm$, we reached the conclusion that the best mix design for permeable concrete was $0{\sim}20%$ of sand percentage and $380kg/m^3$ of unit cement content.

  • This study is part of an ongoing research project on the development of a sound-absorbing lightweight foamed concrete manufactured by a hydro-thermal reaction between silica and calcium. As the silica source, pulverized bottom ash was used, and as several cementitious powders of ordinary portland cement, alumina cement and calcium hydroxide were used. Manufacture of foamed concrete was accomplished using the pre-foaming method to make a continuous pore system, which is the method of making the foam by using a foaming agent, then making the slurry by mixing the foam, water, and powders. The experiment factors are W/B, foam agent dilution ratio, and foam ratio, and test items are compressive strength, dry density, void ratio, and absorption rate, as evaluated by NRC. The experiment results showed that the sound absorption of lightweight foamed concrete satisfied NRC requirements for the absorbing materials in most of the experiments. It is thus concluded that foam ratio was the most dominant factor, and significantly affected all properties of lightweight foamed concrete in this study. W/B rarely affected total void ratio and continuous void ratio as well as compressive strength, and dry density and foam agent dilution ratio also had little effect onalmost all properties. The analysis of the correlation between NRC, absorption time, continuous void ratio, and absorption time showed that the interrelationship of the continuous void ratio was high.

  • The effects of polymer-cement ratio and recycled aggregate content on the continuous void ratio, coefficient of permeablity, compressvie, tensile and flexural strengths of water-permeable polymer-modified concretes using recycled aggregate are examined. As a result, the continuous void ratio and coefficient of permeablity of the water-permeable polymer-modified concretes tend to decrease with increasing polymer-binder ratio. Regardless of the recycled aggregate content, the compressvie, tensile and flexural strengths of the water-permeable polymer-modified concretes wtend to increase with increasing polymer-cement ratio.

  • Porous concrete having continuous voids is gaining more interest as an ecological material. It has several useful functions such as water and air permeability, sound absorption, etc. Its strengths are considerably lower than those of conventional concrete due to the large and continuous voids in it. This study has been carried out to investigate the influence of mix factors and mixture proportion of aggregate on the strengths and water permeability of porous concrete. And it has been carried out to investigate the evaluation of void of porous concrete by the ultra-sonic pulse velocity. The results f this study are as follows: 1) The theoretical void ratio has greater influence than any other factor on the strengths and water permeability of porous concrete. And it is a little affected by the replacement proportion of silica-fume and mixture proportion of aggregate. 2) Because the coefficients of correlation between the void ratio and ultra-sonic pulse velocity were relatively high, it will be possible that the void ratio is predicted by the ultra-sonic pulse velocity.

  • This study was performed to manufacture a rigid sound absorbing material by increasing the continuous void ratio of cellular concrete, thereby achieving an increase in sound absorption ratio and an enhancement in strength of the cellular concrete. By the experiments, it was determined that an increase in sound absorption ratio is achieved by increasing the added amount of air voids, thereby increasing the continuous void ratio. When the material had a thickness of 5 cm, a satisfactory average sound absorption ratio of 70% was obtained at a continuous void ratio of 40% or more. An increase in the thickness of the sound absorbing material resulted in an increase in sound absorption ratio in a super bass range. The specific gravity of cellular concrete meeting an average sound absorption ratio of 70% was 0.4 at a material thickness of 5 cm, and 0.6 or less at a material thickness of 7 cm. The compressive strength of the cellular concrete having a specific gravity of 0.4 meeting an average sound absorption ratio of 70% or more was 1.37 Mpa at a cement fineness of 3,000. This compressive strength was increased to 3.34 MPa at a cement fineness of 8,000. Accordingly, it was determined that the compressive strength of cellular concrete having continuous voids increases with a higher cement fineness.

  • This study aims to evaluate a porous concrete using hwang-toh, blast furnace slag and blast furnace slag (BFS) cement instead of type I cement. The tests that were carried out to analysis the properties of porous hwang-toh BFS cement concrete included compressive strength, continuous void ratio, absorption rate, and pH value, repeated freezing and thawing test were conducted. Test results indicated that the performance in porous hwang-toh concrete are effective on the kaoline based binder materials. The pH value were shown in about 9.5 ~ 8.5. The compressive strength was increased and void ratio was decreased with increasing the kaoline based binder materials, respectively. The void ratio and compressive strength were in the range of about 21 ~ 30 %, 8 ~ 13 MPa, respectively. The increased in void ratio of more than 25 % is showed to reduce the resistance of repeated freezing and thawing. Also, the resistance of repeated freezing of thawing and the compressive strength of porous hwang-toh BFS cement concrete are independent with hwang-toh content and BFS cement amount. But, the void ratio was decreased with increasing the high volume hwang-toh contents (more than 15 %).

  • The concrete with continuous voids (No Fine Concrete ; NFC) is the new planting material which may be used for stabilizing the sandy slope of river or road sides. The components of NFC are mainly coarse aggregate and low alkali cement paste, so to speak fine aggregate is not used. This report shows the fundamental properties of NFC, such as continous void ratio, compressive strength, permeability. As experimental results we can get the good quality of NFC, that is about 28% continuous void ratio, about 120kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ compressive strength and high flowable permeability. And also planting grass and garden portulaca on the concrete with continuous voids is resulted in success.
