  • In this paper, we propose a discriminative training algorithm for the stochastic segment model (SSM) in continuous speech recognition. As the SSM is usually trained by maximum likelihood estimation (MLE), a discriminative training algorithm is required to improve the recognition performance. Since the SSM does not assume the conditional independence of observation sequence as is done in hidden Markov models (HMMs), the search space for decoding an unknown input utterance is increased considerably. To reduce the computational complexity and starch space amount in an iterative training algorithm for discriminative SSMs, a hybrid architecture of SSMs and HMMs is programming using HMMs. Given the segment boundaries, the parameters of the SSM are discriminatively trained by the minimum error classification criterion based on a generalized probabilistic descent (GPD) method. With the discriminative training of the SSM, the word error rate is reduced by 17% compared with the MLE-trained SSM in speaker-independent continuous speech recognition.

  • A sectional analysis of sheet metal forming process with an arbitrary tool shape is proposed in the present work. To improve the numerical convergence in the conventional membrane sectional analysis, the Bending Energy Augmented Membrane (BEAM) elements had been developed. The BEAM elements particularly improve the stability and convergence of the finite element method for the case of deep drawing. In this work, the FERGUBON spline (C$^2$-continuous) was used to fit the deformed mesh to smooth the given curves and calculate the local curvature of the deformed sheet. The fittings of the deformed sheet and tool surface profile ensure the stability and the convergence of the finite element analysis of highly nonlinear stamping processes. A center floor section and front fender section are analyzed to show the accuracy and robustness of the approach. The results obtained by the proposed approach are compared with the available experimental data.

  • We present the minimum weight optimum design of cross sectional for frame structures subject to natural frequency. The optimum design in this paper employ discrete and continuous design variables and Genetic Algorithms. In this paper, Genetic Algorithms is used in optimization process, and be used the method of Elitism and penalty parameters in order to improved fitness in the reproduction process. For 1-Bay 2-Story frame structure, in examples, continuous and discrete design variables are used, and W-section (No.1~No.64), from AISC, discrete data are used in discrete optimization. In this case, Exhaustive search are used for finding global optimum. Continuous variables are used for 1-Bay 7-Story frame structure. Two typical frame structure optimization examples are employed to demonstrate the availability of Genetic Algorithms for solving minimum weight optimum of frame structures with fundamental and multi frequency.

  • In this paper, we present a rotating auto-zeroing offset cancellation technique, which can improve the performance of touch screen sensing circuits. Our target touch screen detection method employs multiple continuous sine waves to achieve a high speed for large touch screens. While conventional auto-zeroing schemes cannot handle such continuous signals properly, the proposed scheme does not suffer from switching noise and provides effective offset cancellation for continuous signals. Experimental results show that the proposed technique improves the signal-to-noise ratio by 14 dB compared to a conventional offset cancellation scheme. For the realistic simulation results, we used Cadence SPECTRE with an accurate TSP model and noise source. We also applied an asymmetric device size (10% MOS size mismatch) to the OP Amp design in order to measure the effectiveness of offset cancellation. We implemented the proposed circuit as part of a touch screen controller system-on-chip by using a Magnachip/SK Hynix 0.18-µm complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) process.

  • This paper presents a design method of deadbeat controller for DC motor driving a rotational system with gear. The results of sampling a continuous-data process does not guarantee that no ripples occur between the sampling instants in the continuous-data output, but the proposed deadbeat control system that consists of the integral controller and the full state observer, and zero order hold using in continuous systems, has many advantages of such as an output response without the ripple and reaching the steady state without error after a given sampling period and faster settling time than the optimal control system in the short sampling period. The results of case study through matlab simulation shown that the efficiency of the proposed controller for DC motor driving a rotational system with gear, is verified by comparing with optimal controller etc.

  • The optimal control of a continuous process has been performed using genetic algorithms(GAs). GAs are robust and easily applicable for complex and highly nonlinear problems. We introduce the heuristics 'dynamic range' which reduces the search space dramaticaly keeping the robust search of GAs. GAs with dynamic range show the better performance than SQP(Successive Quadratic Programing) method which converges to a local minimum. The proposed methology has been applied to the optimal control of the continuous MMA-VA copolymerization reactor for the production of the desired molecular wieght and the composition of VA in dead copolymer.

  • The steel shows plastic deformation after the yield point exceeds. The plastic deformation due to overloads occurs at the interior support of a continuous bridge. The plastic deformation is concentrated at the interior support and the permanence deformation at the interior support remains after loads apply. Because local yielding causes the positive moment at the interior support, it is called 'auto-moment'. Auto-moment redistributes the elastic moment. Because of redistribution, auto-moment decreases the negative moment at the interior support of a continuous bridge. In this paper, the plastic rotation is evaluated using the moment-rotation curve proposed by Schalling and Beam-line method. Moreover, auto-moment is derived from the experiment curve.

  • Presented in this paper is a modeling and simulation methodology for 3 dimensional man-made systems. Based on DEVS(discrete event system specification) formalism[13], we propose GK-DEVS (geometrical and kinematic DEVS) formalism to describe the geometrical and kinematic structure and continuous state dynamics. To represent geometry and kinematics, we add a hierarchical structure to the conventional atomic model. In addition, we employ the "empty event" and its external event function for continuous state changing. In terms of abstract simulation algorithm[13], the simulation method of GK-DEVS, named GK-Simulator, is proposed for combined discrete-continuous simulation. Using GK-DEVS, the simulation of an FMS(flexible manufacturing system) consisting of a luring machine, a 3-axis machine and a RGV-mounted robot has been peformed.en peformed.

  • In this paper, we performed the modeling of a tunable three section DFB-LD with continuous phase using the coupled-wave equation. It was also proposed new modeling method for ${\lambda}/4$ phase shifted one. We got the characteristics of oscillation wavelength, gain, and photon density profiles according to parameters such as coupling coefficient K and current into the third sections for two case of continuous phase and ${\lambda}/4$ shifted phase one. The simulations for ${\lambda}/4$ phase shifted tunable three section DFB-LD prove that the continuous tuning range is about 4.2nm for $K=120cm^{-1}$, $L=180{\mu}m$, and the oscillation mode be within the stop-bands. Also when changed a current of both end sections, it is shown that a photon density reaches the maximum at the center.

  • High temperature superconducting (HTS) windings for an HTS transformer which have been developed have two kinds of type, one is the layer winding and the other is disk winding. The layer winding has adopted for an HTS power transformer so far because of the small AC losses of the HTS windings. The disk windings have surface of the HTS wire. We propose a new winding method for a high voltage HTS transformer which has advantages of both type of HTS windings, and we call it continuous disk winding. This new HTS winding consists of pile of HTS disk windings. The continuous disk winding was fabricated with multi-stacked HTS wires for dover HTS transformer. We can check the potential possibility from the characteristic test of the fabricated winding. The new type HTS windings can be applied to HTS power transformers, especially to the high voltage ones.
