  • This paper proposes a switching control method applicable to any affine, 2nd order nonlinear system with single input. The key contribution is to develop a control design method which uses a piecewise continuous Lyapunov function non-increasing at every discontinuous point. The proposed design method requires no restrictions except full state availability. To obtain a non-increasing, piecewise continuous Lyapunov function, we change the sign of off-diagonal term s of the positive definite matrix composing the former Lyapunov function according to the sign of the Inter-connection term. And we use the solution of inequalities which guarantee each Lyapunov function is non-increasing at any discontinuous point.

  • In this study was proposed that a new estimating method for investigation of contractile state changes which generated from continuous isometric contraction of skeletal muscle. The physiological changes(EMG, ECG) and the psychological changes by CNS(central nervous system) were measured by experiments, while the muscle of subjects contracted continuously with isometric contraction in constant load. The psychological changes were represented as three-step-change named 'fatigue', 'pain' and 'sick(greatly pain)' from oral test, and the method which compared physiological change with psychological change on basis of these three steps was developed. The result of analyzing the physiological signals, EMG and ECG signal changes were observed at the vicinity of judging point in time of psychological changes. Namely, it is supposed that contractile states have three kind of states pattern (stable, fatigue, pain) instead of two states (stable, fatigue).

  • Eigenvalue distributions for a periodic metal-insulator-metal waveguide, classified into the point spectrum and the discretized continuous spectrum (DCS), are investigated as functions of frequencies, gap widths, and periods. Muller's method is suggested for solving exact eigenvalues, and we propose the scheme for finding proper initial values in the Muller's method by considering only ${\Re}e({\varepsilon}_r)$ in the dispersion equation. We then find that anti-crossing behavior, repulsive effect between the point spectrum and the DCS, becomes stronger when the real parts of the roots in the point spectrum have smaller values. Finally, we examine the transmittances of a single subwavelength slit for real metals using the mode matching technique. The transmittances in real metals similarly follow those of the perfect electric conductor (PEC) at low frequencies, while the patterns at higher frequencies begin to differ from the PEC.

  • Instantaneous frequency of doppler signals is used to get the information of the relative velocity and the miss distance between a missile and a corresponding target. In this paper, we have performed time-frequency analysis and instantaneous frequency estimation with Short Time Fourier Transform(STFT), Wigner Ville Distribution(WVD) and Continuous Wavelet Transform(CWT) about the doppler signals generated by moving targets. Performance evaluation was performed using simulated doppler signals generated by a single moving target and two moving targets. From the results of the time-frequency analysis, we found that WVD method was the most efficient instantaneous frequency estimator among the three methods. But in case of two moving targets, WVD method got cross talks and CWT method got oscillation when two doppler frequencies were close to each other.

  • Recently, various efforts to make more speedy and precision machine tool to improve productivity and also various efforts to solve environmental problem are going on, so that dry cutting in manufacturing industry, which needs environmental conscious design and development of manufacturing technique, is becoming a very important assignment to solve. Because dry cutting does not use cutting fluid, we need other methods that can be used instead of cutting fluid, which does cooling, lubricating, chip washing, and anti-corrosion. Especially, because turning is a continuous work, the consideration of tool life and surface roughness due to continuous heat and poor lubrication is important. The purposes of this paper are the consideration of how well the compressed air can work instead of cutting fluid, and also the development of the method to select the optimum machining condition by the minimum numbers of experiments through the Taguchi method.

  • In order to improve resource value, separation of nonferrous metals obtained from crushed materials of home appliances is required. In this study, we aimed to develop a continuous separation system by magneto-Archimedes method using magnetic fluid as a medium and the permanent magnet as a magnetic field source. Firstly, the separation conditions were examined in which only copper is settled and the difference in levitation positions between aluminum and other metals are over 1 cm. Based on the results, levitation experiment of each metal and separation experiment from the mixture of nonferrous metals were confirmed. The separation experiment showed that the continuous separation of copper and aluminum from a mixture of nonferrous metals is possible.

  • We consider a 1-dimensional reaction diffusion equation with the following boundary conditions arising in a theory of the thermal explosion {-u"(t) = λf(u(t)), t ∈ (0, l), -u'(0) + C(0)u(0) = 0, u'(l) + C(l)u(l) = 0, where C : [0, ∞) → (0, ∞) is a continuous and nondecreasing function, λ > 0 is a parameter and f : [0, ∞) → (0, ∞) is a continuous function. We establish the extension of Quadrature method introduced in [8]. Using this extension, we provide numerical results for models with a typical function of f and C in a thermal explosion theory, which verify the existence, uniqueness and multiplicity results proved in [6].

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of continuous wave ultrasound and pulsed wave ultrasound that influence changes in pain and range of motion when applied to patients with temporomandibular joint disability. Methods: The subjects of the study were 40 selected patients who had been diagnosed with temporomandibular joint movement restriction and had endured pain for more than two weeks. These patients had visited K orthopedic surgery in Deagu measured from October 1, 2004 to March 31, 2005. The subjects were divided into two groups with 20 patients each. The one group was applied to continuous wave ultrasound and the other group was applied to pulsed wave ultrasound at a dosage of 1.5 W/$cm^2$ for a duration of 5 minutes and eight times for two weeks. The pain perception degree were measured by using Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and the range of motion was measured by using a rule for each group. Results: The results obtained were as follows The change in the pain perception degree were statistically significant in both group(p<0.05) ; however, the continuous wave ultrasound group showed more difference in the average decrease in the pain perception degree than did the pulsed wave ultrasound group. Both groups showed significant results regarding changed in the range of motion(p<0.05) ; Comparing the difference in the average of the range of motion between the two groups, came back from normal the range of motion of temporomandibular joint at the both groups. Conclusion : Based on the results of this study, we found that both groups showed decreased pain and increased the range of motion, but the continuous wave ultrasound method had a higher therapy effect pain and the range of motion than the pulsed wave ultrasound method to patients with temporomandibular joint disability. With such finding, we expect that according to ultrasound therapy applicant method can be helped usable accurately to patients with variety symptoms temporomandibular joint disability.

  • Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) can be used in various applications for military or environmental purpose. Recently, there are lots of on-going researches for detecting and tracking the spread of continuous objects or phenomena such as poisonous gas, wildfires, earthquakes, and so on. Some previous work has proposed techniques to detect edge nodes of such a continuous object based on the information of all the 1-hop neighbor nodes. In those techniques, however, a number of nodes are redundantly selected as edge nodes, and thus, the boundary of the continuous object cannot be presented accurately. In this paper, we propose a new edge detection method in which edge nodes of the continuous object are detected based on the information of the neighbor nodes obtained via the Localized Delaunay Triangulation so that a minimum number of nodes are selected as edge nodes. We also define the sensor behavior rule for tracking continuous objects energy-efficiently. Our simulation results show that the proposed edge detection method provides enhanced performance compared with previous 1-hop neighbor node based methods. On the average, the accuracy is improved by 29.95% while the number of edge nodes, the amount of communication messages and energy consumption are reduced by 54.43%, 79.36% and 72.34%, respectively. Moreover, the number of edge nodes decreases by 48.38% on the average in our field test with MICAz motes.

  • Efficient continuous speech recognition system for practical applications requires that the processing be carried out in real time and high recognition accuracy. In this paper, we study the acoustic models by adopting the PDT-SSS algorithm and the language models by iterative learning so as to improve the speech recognition accuracy. And the adaptive pruning algorithm is applied to the continuous speech. To verify the effectiveness of proposed method, we carried out the continuous speech recognition for the Korean air flight reservation task. Experimental results show that the adopted algorithm has the average 90.9% for continuous speech recognition and the average 90.7% for word recognition accuracy including continuous speech. And in case of adopting the adaptive pruning algorithm to continuous speech, it reduces the recognition time of about 1.2 seconds(15%) without any loss of accuracy. From the result, we proved the effectiveness of the PDT-SSS algorithm and the adaptive pruning algorithm.
