In this paper, we analyzed the reset current variation of PRAM device with top electrode using the 3-D finite element analysis tool. As thickness of phase change material thin film decreased, reset current caused by phase transition highly increased. Joule's heat which was generated at the contact surface of phase change material and bottom electrode of PRAM was given off through top electrode to which was transferred phase change material. As thermal conductivity of top electrode decreased, heating temperate was increased.

A simple method for fabricating micro/nanoscale hierarchical structures is presented using a two-step temperature-directed capillary molding technique. This lithographic method involves a sequential application of molding process in which a uniform polymer-coated surface is molded with a patterned mold by means of capillary force above the glass transition temperature of the polymer. Using this approach, multiscale hierarchical structures for biomimetic functional surfaces can be fabricated with precise control over geometrical parameters and the wettability of a solid surface can be designed in a controllable manner.

This research develops an easy-to-use, environmentally friendly method for fabricating functional 1050 aluminum alloy surfaces with excellent corrosion resistance. Functional aluminum surfaces with various nanostructures are fabricated by controlling the experimental conditions of anodizing process. The experiment used a multi-step anodizing process that alternates between two different anodizing modes, mild anodizing (MA) and hard anodizing (HA), together with a pore-widening (PW) process. Among them, the nanostructured surface with a small solid fraction shows superhydrophobicity with a contact angle of more than 170° after water-repellent coating. In addition, the surface with superhydrophobicity is difficult for corrosive substances to penetrate, so the corrosion resistance is greatly improved.
Multi core-shell composite particles were prepared by the water-born emulsion polymerization of various core monomers such as methyl methacrylate (MMA), ethyl methacrylate (EMA) and shell monomers such as MMA, EMA, 2-hydroxyl ethyl methacrylate (2-HEMA), glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) and methacrylic acid (MAA) in the presence of different concentrations of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS). The following conclusions are drawn from the conversion, particle size and distribution, average molecular weight, molecular structure, glass transition temperature with DSC, contact angle after plasma treatment, tensile strength and isothermal decomposition kinetics. In the case of the concentration of 0.02 wt% SDBS, the conversion of MMA core-(EMA/GMA) shell composite particles was excellent as 98.5%. In the case of the concentration of 0.03 wt% SDBS, the particle size of EMA core-(MMA/GMA) shell composite particles was high as $0.48{\mu}m$. We confirmed that 3 points of glass transition temperatures appear for multi core-shell composite particles compared to 1~2 points of glass transition temperatures appear for general copolymer particles. Overall, the adhesion strength of shell composite particles was in the order of EMA/MAA > EMA/2-HEMA > EMA/GMA.

Friction and wear tests were conducted with several different ceramics sliding against ceramic and metal couples with and without lubricant in a two disk type sliding machine. The purpose was to know the tribological properties of ceramics. With very different physical and chemical properties of ceramics compared to metal, the tribological properties of ceramics should be defined in detail. Among them, the wear and friction with same or different couple is very important. Also the lubrication of ceramic is one of the major area to be studied. From this research, SiC, SI$_{3}$N$_{4}$ and ZrO$_{2}$ were slid against SiC, AISI 4340 and bronze under various sliding condition. It was found that the friction and wear of ceramics are strongly dependent on the sliding condition. For unlubricated sliding against SiC, ZrO$_{2}$ shows low wear and friction coefficient over wide lange of load, but with lubricated sliding, SiC shows better performance whatever lubricants were used. Also the effect of lubricant depended upon the material properties of sliding pairs. The general tribological properties of ceramics were not correlated with chattering and noise at low load but it could be reduced or avoided effectively by using lubricants. SiC and Si$_{3}$N$_{4}$ slid against SiC have transition from mild to severe wear at high load but ZrO$_{2}$-SiC and SiC-steel have not. Wear debris formed on the contact area of SiC couples was main cause of the initiation of transition. At high speed, only ZrO$_{2}$ sliding against SiC has transition of wear by low thermal conductivity.
Purpose: The characteristics of oxidized titanium (Ti) surfaces varied according to treatment conditions such as duration time and temperature. Thermal oxidation can change Ti surface characteristics, which affect many cellular responses such as cell adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation. Thus, this study was conducted to evaluate the surface characteristics and cell response of thermally treated Ti surfaces. Methods: The samples were divided into 4 groups. Control: machined smooth titanium (Ti-S) was untreated. Group I: Ti-S was treated in a furnace at $300^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes. Group II: Ti-S was treated at $500^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes. Group III: Ti-S was treated at $750^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes. A scanning electron microscope, atomic force microscope, and X-ray diffraction were used to assess surface characteristics and chemical composition. The water contact angle and surface energy were measured to assess physical properties. Results: The titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) thickness increased as the treatment temperature increased. Additional peaks belonging to rutile $TiO_2$ were only found in group III. The contact angle in group III was significantly lower than any of the other groups. The surface energy significantly increased as the treatment temperature increased, especially in group III. In the 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol- 2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay, after 24 hours of incubation, the assessment of cell viability showed that the optical density of the control had a higher tendency than any other group, but there was no significant difference. However, the alkaline phosphatase activity increased as the temperature increased, especially in group III. Conclusions: Consequently, the surface characteristics and biocompatibility increased as the temperature increased. This indicates that surface modification by thermal treatment could be another useful method for medical and dental implants.
This numerical study aims at analyzing the effect of flow characteristics, caused by geometrical features such as intersecting angles, on solute mixing at fracture junctions. It showed that not only Pe, the ratio of advection to diffusion, but also the intersecting angles played an important role in solute mixing at the junction. For the intersection angles less than 90°, the fluid flowed to the outlet in the same direction as the injected flow direction, which increased the contact at the junction with the streamlines coming from the different inlets. On the other hand, for the intersecting angles greater than 90°, the fluid flowed out to the outlet opposite to the flow direction in the inlet, leading to minimizing the contact at the junction. Therefore, in the former case, solute mixing occurred even at high Pe, and in the latter case, solutes transport along the streamlines even at low Pe. For Pe < 1, the complete mixing model was known to occur, but for the intersecting angle greater than 150°, no complete solute mixing occurred. Overall, the transition from the complete mixing model to the streamline-routing model occurred for Pe = 0.1 - 100, but it highly depended on the intersecting angles. Specifically, the transition occurred at Pe = 0.1 - 10 for intersecting angles ≧ 150° and at Pe = 10 - 100 for intersecting angles ≦ 30°. For Pe > 100, the streamline-routing model was dominant regardless of intersecting angles. For Pe > 1,000, the complete streamline-routing model appeared only for the intersecting angles greater than 150°. For the intersecting angles less than 150°, the streamline-routing model dominated over the complete solute mixing, but solute mixing still occurred at the fracture junction.

As display industry requires various applications for future display technology, which can guarantees high level of flexibility and transparency on display panel, oxide semiconductor materials are regarded as one of the best candidates. $InGaZnO_4$(IGZO) has gathered much attention as a post-transition metal oxide used in active layer in thin-film transistor. Due to its high mobility fabricated at low temperature fabrication process, which is proper for application to display backplanes and use in flexible and/or transparent electronics. Electrical performance of amorphous oxide semiconductors depends on the resistance of the interface between source/drain metal contact and active layer. It is also affected by sheet resistance on IGZO thin film. Controlling contact/sheet resistance has been a hot issue for improving electrical properties of AOS(Amorphous oxide semiconductor). To overcome this problem, post-annealing has been introduced. In other words, through post-annealing process, saturation mobility, on/off ratio, drain current of the device all increase. In this research, we studied on the relation between device's resistance and post-annealing temperature. So far as many post-annealing effects have been reported, this research especially analyzed the change of electrical properties by increasing post-annealing temperature. We fabricated 6 main samples. After a-IGZO deposition, Samples were post-annealed in 5 different temperatures; as-deposited, $100^{\circ}C$, $200^{\circ}C$, $300^{\circ}C$, $400^{\circ}C$ and $500^{\circ}C$. Metal deposition was done on these samples by using Mo through E-beam evaporation. For analysis, three analysis methods were used; IV-characteristics by probe station, surface roughness by AFM, metal oxidation by FE-SEM. Experimental results say that contact resistance increased because of the metal oxidation on metal contact and rough surface of a-IGZO layer. we can suggest some of the possible solutions to overcome resistance effect for the improvement of TFT electrical performances.

Electrons and phonons in chalcogenide-based materials play are important factors in the performance of an optical data storage media and thermoelectric devices. However, the fundamental kinetics of carriers in chalcogenide materials remains controversial, and active debate continues over the mechanism responsible for carrier relaxation. In this study, we investigated ultrafast carrier dynamics in an multilayered $\{Sb(3{\AA})/Te(9{\AA})\}n$ thin film during the transition from the amorphous to the crystalline phase using optical pump terahertz probe spectroscopy (OPTP), which permits the relationship between structural phase transition and optical property transitions to be examined. Using THz-TDS, we demonstrated that optical conductance and carrier concentration change as a function of annealing temperature with a contact-free optical technique. Moreover, we observed that the topological surface state (TSS) affects the degree of enhancement of carrier lifetime, which is closely related to the degree of spin-orbit coupling (SOC). The combination of an optical technique and a proposed carrier relaxation mechanism provides a powerful tool for monitoring TSS and SOC. Consequently, the response of the amorphous phase is dominated by an electron-phonon coupling effect, while that of the crystalline structure is controlled by a Dirac surface state and SOC effects. These results are important for understanding the fundamental physics of phase change materials and for optimizing and designing materials with better performance in optoelectronic devices.

In the present study, crack initiation criteria, static failure and tensile mode fatigue behavior for a rail steel are evaluated to assure the railway vehicle's safety. The transverse fissure, which is the most critical damage in the rail, is initiated by the maximum shear stress and its location is subsurface. In addition, the possibility of transition from the shear mode to the mixed mode increases with increasing the length of subsurface crack. Because of the brittleness by the welding, the fracture toughness of the welded part is lower than of the base metal. For low ${\Delta}K$, the stage II fatigue crack growth rates of the welded part is slower than of the base metal but, for high ${\Delta}K$, this different behavior for fatigue crack growth rate is nearly diminished. These trends are more remarkable for low stress ratio, R=0.1. It is believed that this behavior is caused by the change of the microstructure which that of the welded part is coarser than of base metal.
