  • The tests on the oocysticidal effects of three formulations (75% o-dichlorobenzene, 7.5% cresol combined with morestan 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, respectively) against immature oocysts of Eimeria tenella, were carried out. A o-dichlorobenzene preparation (72.5% o-dichlorobenzene, 7.5% cresol) on the market was selected and tested as the control. The tests were divided into two ways, the one was evaluated at different dilutions and contact times. The other was performed at different storage days. The test results are summarized as follows. Oocysticidal effects of 100% were revealed at 1 to 3 hours contact time of all morestan combined preparations. On the other hand, the perfect oocysticidal effect was revealed only at 24 hours exposure time of 100 times dilution among dilutes of control preparation. Combined rate of morestan was higher, oocysticidal effect was better. In the latter test, all morestan combined formulations had 100% of oocysticidal effect up to 5 days storage after dilution and 86.4% to 96.7% at two weeks storage after dilution, whereas the oocysticidal effects of the control preparation was gradually decreased by the storage time was passed and there was no effect at 2 weeks storage after dilution. With these results, morestan combined preparations have synergistic effect against oocysts of E tenella and can be used as the most effective oocysticidal disinfectant for broiler industry in future.

  • This work describes the effect of composite conductor on the characteristics of electric double layer capacitor. Test cell, which was fabricated with conducting composite consisted of 80% of SPB and 20% of VGCF, exhibits the better tate capability and the lower resistance than those of the cells fabricated with single electronic conductor. These enhanced properties could be related with the decrease of contact resistance between the activated carbon powders.

  • To understand the effect of surface roughness on silicon wafer bonding, a continuum mechanical model is presented. This model is based on Obreimoff's experiment and the contact theory of rough surfaces. The surface energy of silicon was calculated to be much reduced than the theoretical value. Problems are discussed concerning surface film effects and the assumption of constant asperity radius and statistical distribution function.

  • Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the influence of indoor air qualities of an office environment on dry eye syndrome for wearing contact lens and non-wearing contact lens. Methods: To study the effects of indoor air qualities on dry eye syndrome for seventy-one subjects, $CO_2$, temperature, humidity, TSP, PM10, HCHO were measured. Each subject was tested by a McMonnie's dry eye syndrome questionnaire, a Schirmer Tear Test-I (S.T.T-I), a Schirmer Tear Test-II with anesthetics (S.T.T-II), and Tear film break-up time (T.B.U.T) in the their offices. Results: There was significant relation between the indoor air quality and dry eye syndrome for wearing contact lens and non-wearing when TSP was over $200{\mu}g/m^3$, PM10 was higher than $86.7{\mu}g/m^3$ and Formaldehyde was over $0.4{\sim}1.0{\mu}g/m^3$. However, there was no significant effect on dry eye syndrome with $CO_2$ (p=.0146), temperature (p=0.074) and humidity (p=0.053). Conclusions: It was indicated that $CO_2$, temperature and humidity were no effect on dry eye syndrome in the office environment. However TSP, PM10, formaldehyde, and wearing contact lens were effect on dry eye syndrome. Therefore, the entire management of wearing contact lens and the individual evaluation of the indoor air quality are required.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of contact type textile electrode structure on heart activity signal acquisition for smart healthcare. In this study, we devised six contact type textile electrodes whose electrode size and configuration were manipulated for measuring heart activity signals using computerized embroidery. We detected heart activity signals using a modified lead II and by attaching each textile electrode to the chest band in four healthy male subjects in a standing static posture. We measured the signals four times repeatedly for all types of electrodes. The heart activity signals were sampled at 1 kHz using a BIOPAC ECG100, and the detected original signals were filtered through a band-pass filter. To compare the performance of heart activity signal acquisition among the different structures of the textile electrodes, we conducted a qualitative analysis using signal waveform and size as parameters. In addition, we performed a quantitative analysis by calculating signal power ratio (SPR) of the heart activity signals obtained through each electrode. We analyzed differences in the performance of heart activity signal acquisition of the six electrodes by performing difference and post-hoc tests using nonparametric statistic methods on the calculated SPR. The results showed a significant difference both in terms of qualitative and quantitative aspects of heart activity signals among the tested contact type textile electrodes. Regarding the configurations of the contact type textile electrodes, the three-dimensionally inflated electrode (3DIE) was found to obtain better quality signals than the flat electrode. However, regarding the electrode size, no significant difference was found in performance of heart signal acquisition for the three electrode sizes. These results suggest that the configuration method (flat/3DIE), which is one of the two requirements of a contact type textile electrode structure for heart activity signal acquisition, has a critical effect on the performance of heart activity signal acquisition for wearable healthcare. Based on the results of this study, we plan to develop a smart clothing technology that can monitor high-quality heart activity without time and space constraints by implementing a clothing platform integrated with the textile electrode and developing a performance improvement plan.

  • In order to examine the effect of Smilax china L. (SC) extract on the cytotoxicity of methymercuric chloride (MMC), allergic contact dermatitis, The cytotoxicity of MMC was assessed after cultured NIH3T3 fibroblasts were treated with various concentrations of MMC for 72 hours. And also, the following results were obtained by measuring the antioxidative effect of SC extract on the cytotoxicity of MMC. In this study, MMC remarkably decreased the cell viability of NIH3T3 fibroblasts in a dose-dependent manner, and MMC was seen to be highly-toxic below 100 uM of $XTT_{50}$ value. In addition, the toxicity of MMC was involved in oxidative stress via a blockage of MMC-induced cytotoxicity by vit. E as antioxidant. In the protective effect of SC extract on MMC-induced cytotoxicity, SC extract defended the cytotoxicity of MMC by a significant increase of cell viability which was decreased by MMC-induced cytotoxicity. It also showed antioxidative effects such as electron donating ability (EDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD)-like activity (SLA) and the lipid peroxidation activity (LPA). From these results, the natural component as SC extract may be a putative resource as the antioxidative agent for the treatment of inflammatory skin disease associated with the oxidative stress.

  • The impact, spreading and recoil processes of a nanoparticle-laden droplet impacting on a horizontal solid surface are numerically investigated by solving the conservation equations for mass, momentum, energy and mass fraction. The liquid-air interface is tracked using a level-set method that is modified to include the effect of contact angle hysteresis at the wall. The species transport equation including a thermal diffusion term is additionaly solved to determine the nanoparticle distribution in the droplet. The effect of nanoparticle concentration and contact angle are also studied.

  • Fibers of microbial polyesters, poly(3-hydroxy butyrate) (PHB) and poly(3-hydroxy butyrate-co-3-hydroxy valerate) (HB-co-HV) were prepared by electrospinning method. The obtained fibers were evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry, scanning electron microscopy, and oil absorption. The formation of fibers was strongly dependent on a concentration of solution. At a low concentration, the fibers contained beads which is from aggregation of polymer due to short evaporation time. The fine fibers with $2-5{\mu}m$ diameter were obtained at 20 wt% concentration. The contact angle measurement showed that the fiber had higher water contact angle than the film due to the lotus-like effect. Oil absorbency showed that the fiber had higher than the film. Specially, the HB-co-HV fiber which was spinned from 20 wt% absorbed 65% oil which is much higher than that of a normal polypropylene-based oil paper.
