Real-Time Power-Saving Scheduling Based on Genetic Algorithms in Multi-core Hybrid Memory Environments (멀티코어 이기종메모리 환경에서의 유전 알고리즘 기반 실시간 전력 절감 스케줄링)

  • Recently, due to the rapid diffusion of intelligent systems and IoT technologies, power saving techniques in real-time embedded systems has become important. In this paper, we propose P-GA (Parallel Genetic Algorithm), a scheduling algorithm aims at reducing the power consumption of real-time systems in multi-core hybrid memory environments. P-GA improves the Proportional-Fairness (PF) algorithm devised for multi-core environments by combining the dynamic voltage/frequency scaling of the processor with the nonvolatile memory technologies. Specifically, P-GA applies genetic algorithms for optimizing the voltage and frequency modes of processors and the memory types, thereby minimizing the power consumptions of the task set. Simulation experiments show that the power consumption of P-GA is reduced by 2.85 times compared to the conventional schemes.

Performance Simulation of Geothermal Heat Pump (GHP) System with Different Control Schemes (제어 방식에 따른 지열 히트펌프 시스템의 성능 시뮬레이션)

  • Geothermal heat pump (GHP) systems have been proved to be one of the most efficient systems for heating and cooling in buildings. However, an optimal energy performance depends on a good control of the system components, including heat pumps and circulation pumps, which affect to the total energy consumption of system. This paper presents the simulation results of the heat pump performance for two different control schemes, i.e. constant setting temperature (Control-A) and variable setting temperatures (Control-B) in buffer tank. A dynamic simulation tool, TRNSYS 17, was used to model the entire system and to assess the performance of the system. Simulation results show that the Control-B, which controls the temperature in buffer tank with outdoor air temperature, is a effective way to reduce the energy consumptions in heat pump (7.7%) and circulation pump (7.5%).

  • A stable power supply is very important for the maintenance and operation of the power infrastructure. Accurate power consumption prediction is therefore needed. In particular, a university campus is an institution with one of the highest power consumptions and tends to have a wide variation of electrical load depending on time and environment. For this reason, a model that can accurately predict power consumption is required for the effective operation of the power system. The disadvantage of the existing time series prediction technique is that the prediction performance is greatly degraded because the width of the prediction interval increases as the difference between the learning time and the prediction time increases. In this paper, we first classify power data with similar time series patterns considering the date, day of the week, holiday, and semester. Next, each ARIMA model is constructed based on the classified data set and a daily power consumption forecasting method of the university campus is proposed through the time series cross-validation of the predicted time. In order to evaluate the accuracy of the prediction, we confirmed the validity of the proposed method by applying performance indicators.

In-Patients' Food Consumption and Perception on Foodservice Quality at Hospitals (환자들의 병원급식 섭취 실태 및 병원급식 품질 속성에 대한 인식 분석)

  • The purposes of this research were to investigate in-patients' perception on foodservice quality and to examine factors influencing their meal consumption at hospitals. Three general hospitals with over 400 beds in Seoul and Chon-An agreed to participate in the research. A total of 516 in-patients of the hospitals were surveyed on their meal consumptions, reasons of plate wastes, perceptions of foodservice quality, and demographic information. A response rate was 76% after excluding responses with significant missing data. On average the regular diet patients consumed 72%, 69%, and 68% of rice, soups, and side dishes served, respectively; the therapeutic diet patients consumed less than 70% of the meals they were served. The consumption rates did not differ significantly by diet type, gender, age, and hospitalization period. Among the therapeutic diet patients, those who had nutrition education consumed significantly more rice than the others (p<0.05). The main reasons why the patients did not eat all food served were 'lack of energy' and 'not tasty'. The patients' perception on foodservice quality was low; the therapeutic diet patients perceived more negatively than the regular diet patients in 'keeping hot food hot, cold food cold(p<0.05)', 'maintaining consistency of taste(p<0.01)', and 'providing nutrition information(p<0.01)'. To achieve the goal of the foodservice at hospitals, the dietitians can use the findings of the research in developing and implementing strategies to improve the patients' meal consumption. Recipe standardization, employee training, and production management will be useful for improving food quality and nutrition education on therapeutic diets for the patients will improve their meal consumption at hospitals.

A Study on Beverage Consumption Pattern Associated with Food and Nutrient Intakes of College Students (대학생의 음료섭취 실태와 식품섭취 및 영양소섭취와의 관련성에 관한 연구)

  • This study was conducted to investigate beverage consumptions in relation to food intakes of Korean young people. One hundred thirty five college students(61 males and 74 females) living in Taegu, Kyung-buk and Taejon answered to questionnaires and recorded three day food intakes between May 20 and June 5, 1997. The preferred beverages were fruit juice, carbonated drink, dairy drink, sport beverage for male students, and fruit juice, dairy drink, sport beverage and carbonated drink for female students. Beverage taken most frequently was coffee for both. Frequent consumption of orange juice was associated with consumption of vegetables, meats, and fats and oils used for frying, and light cola seemed to be consumed with greasy dishes. Beverage consumption contributed to intakes of calcium and vitamin $B_2$more than other nutrients. 4.6% of total energy intake, 15.5% of calcium intake, 11.4% of vitamin $B_2$ provided from beverages in female. Contributions of beverages to nutrient intakes were higher in female than in male students. Calcium intake was the lowest among nutrients for males, and intakes of iron and vitamin A were the lowest for females as compared to the recommended dietary allowances. Therefore it is necessary to guide college students to choose beverages for balanced intakes of necessary nutrients.

  • An underlying assumption in geographic routing protocols, periodic position exchange among neighbors has two problems: (1) unnecessary energy consumptions of nodes in regions without data delivery and (2) position invalidation of neighbors in forwarding data. Hence, this paper proposes an on-demand geographic routing protocol in mobile wireless sensor networks. The proposed protocol make a sender acquire position information of only necessary neighbors to reduce energy consumption in data forwarding time and determine an optimal node among them as a receiver for relaying data to a destination by considering their mobility. Simulation results show that the proposed protocol is more efficient than an existing geographic routing protocol.

Application of Fourier Transform Near-Infrared Spectroscopy for Prediction Model Development of Total Dietary Fiber Content in Milled Rice (백미의 총 식이섬유함량 예측 모델 개발을 위한 퓨리에변환 근적외선분광계의 적용)

  • Fourier transform-near infrared (FT-NIR) spectroscopy is a simple, rapid, non-destructive technique which can be used to make quantitative analysis of chemical composition in grain. An interest in total dietary fiber (TDF) of grain such as rice has been increased due to its beneficial effects for health. Since measuring methods for TDF content were highly depending on experimental technique and time consumptions, the application of FT-NIR spectroscopy to determine TDF content in milled rice. Results of enzymatic-gravimetric method were $1.17-1.92\%$ Partial least square (PLS) regression on raw NIR spectra to predict TDF content was developed Accuracy of prediction model for TDF content was certified for regression coefficient (r), standard error of estimation (SEE) and standard error of prediction (SEP). The r, SEE and SEP were 0.9705, 0.0464, and 0.0604, respectively. The results indicated that FT-NIR techniques could be very useful in the food industry and rice processing complex for determination of TDF in milled rice on real time analysis.

A Study on Compensatory Consumption of Male and Female College Students (남녀 대학생의 보상소비성향에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate compensatory consumption propensity by male and female college students. The subjects of the study were 483 college students in Seoul, and SPSS 12.0 was used for statistical analysis. Two different types of compensatory consumption were considered separately positive compensatory consumption and negative compensatory consumption. The major findings were as follows. First, for male college students, drinking was the most preferable means of compensatory consumption to compensate for both negative and positive emotions. For female college students, their consumption patterns tended to include clothing purchase and eating-out for positive emotions and eating-out, reading and drinking for compensating negative emotions. Second, for both male and female students, the consumption propensity for compensating positive emotion was found to be higher than that for compensating negative emotion. And the consumption propensities for compensating positive and negative emotions were higher for female students when compared to those of male students. According to the results of regression analysis showing the relative effect of each variable to compensatory consumption, sex and consumption tendency were found to be relative variables on both positive and negative compensatory consumptions. Female students were found to be more likely to consume for compensating emotion than male students after other variables were controlled. For positive compensatory consumption, consumption propensity and materialism were found to be the most effective variables, and for negative compensatory consumption, materialism was the most effective variable.

  • Recently orders of project in the field of oil & gas plant have been increased due to raising oil prices and consumptions. Domestic oil & gas companies are expanding into the Middle East area and all over the world. In the field of oil & gas plant, it is important to manage a technical control and a license that is occurred when developing the manufacturing processes and technologies. Because the oil & gas market has a lot of executions of the oversea construction, competitions between the advanced companies is more important. Therefore, we have to adopt systematic management style for achievements of the technical competitive power and the higher position. However, domestic oil & gas plant companies have not enough competitive powers of the license and the design phase. So, they are faced with difficulties of adopting the technology which is maximizing the effect of investments and scheduling a long-range plan. To achieve the technology management and the competitive power, this study proposes a long-range plan through the analysis of execution methods for technology management.

The Nutrition Survey, Nutrition Surveillance and Nutrition Status in China

  • With the prosperous economy, the status of diet and nutrition among the urban and rural Chinese population has been improved significantly. This paper will focuses on three main surveys in China. (1)'Food and Nutrition Surveillance System in China': Phase I focused on analysis of previous data. Phase II was a pilot survey initiated in Beijing, Hebei, Heilongjiang, Ningxia, Zhejiang, Guangzhou, and Sichuan in 1990. (2) 'The China Health and Nutrition Survey' is an ongoing longitudinal project covered 8(9) provinces in 1991,1993,1997,2000. This paper will analysis the adults aged 18 45 of 1991, 1993, 1997, and 2000. (3) Survey on the status of nutrition and health of the Chinese (2002) is an across sectional study covered 31 provinces, autonomous region and the municipalities. The data was used to analyze the status of food consumption and dietary nutrients intake of Chinese population. In the past ten years, the prevalence of malnutrition and nutrition deficiency has been continuously decreased. The consumptions of animal products, milk, and edible oil have been increased, while the dairy and legume products consumption decreased. The unbalance was showed with a downward trend in cereals, vegetables and fruits consumption and a significant increase in animal products and oil intake among urban people. Dietary pattern of some subjects went away to 'high energy density' diet. The deficiency of calcium, retinal and ascorbic acid etc, especially in the rural areas still exist. China is undergoing a remarkable, but undesirable, rapid transition towards a stage of the nutrition transition characterized by high rates of DR NCDs in a very short time. China is facing the dual challenges of nutrition deficiency and nutrition imbalance. The results can help to understand the dietary structure and the status of nutrition among Chinese people over the past years. It will provide the basis for formulating relevant state policies.
