This research started from hypothesizing that people hesitate to use a fashion sharing economy service due to the consumers' concerns or fears about contagion. The study explores how backstage information can affect consumers' responses to this service, especially their perceived risk and transparency. An online experiment was conducted to test the research questions through Amazon MTurk. The data of 351 participants in total were analyzed. The results show that backstage information, presenting hidden information with images of various product journeys, from packaging to return and laundry, had a positive effect on transparency as well as perceived risk. Both transparency and perceived risk positively affected the service's perceived honesty, and honesty also positively affected consumer engagement. Through the findings that providing backstage information had a positive effect on perceived risk, but the risk had a positive effect on perceived honesty, we can expect the reaction to the information itself to possibly be negative. However, consumers can consider the service as honest at least, which opens the possibility of expecting positive consumer attitudes or responses in a market in the near future.
Among the themes for CSR(Corporate Social Responsibility), consumer issues include protecting the health and safety of consumers who purchase and use the products. In particular, ensuring product safety is a major theme of consumer issues for corporate social responsibility. Currently, the government implements the Electrical Appliances and Consumer Products Safety Control Act for product safety management and selects products that may harmful to consumers as safety control items, and manages the products by designating them as 4 types of safety certification, safety confirmation, supplier conformity verification, and safety standard compliance. In this paper, we propose management plans for the establishment of a more reasonable classification type of safety management target for 48 items of consumer products to be controlled by the act, and confirm the validity of the plan. First, we perform cluster analysis using data for CISS (Consumer Injury Surveillance System) to derive a new classification type of the safety management target. Next, we compare the results of the cluster analysis with the classification type of the act and the existing scenario classification method RAS (Risk Assessment by Scenario) and the causal network method RAMP (Risk Assessment Method based on Probability). Based on these results, we propose two new plans of safety management target classification and verify its validity.
This study's aim was to explore the relationships among consumers' perceived risk, trust, and familiarity with products made in China. We invited 489 Korean adult consumers, who had purchased products made in China earlier, to take part in this investigation. Data analyses were conducted using a reliability test, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation modeling (SEM) with SPSS ver. 21.0 and AMOS ver. 21.0. We assumed that the perceived risk could be classified into four types: financial, performance, psychological, and social risk. The empirical verification through SEM indicated that all four types of the perceived risk represented a negative influence on the trust. Further, only the financial and psychological risks were significant when consumers were not familiar with products made in China (novice); in contrast, the experts (consumers familiar with products made in China) showed that the performance and social risks were effective. Finally, we found that there was a moderating effect of familiarity on the relationship between three types of perceived risk, namely financial, performance, and psychological risks, and trust, but the social risk was not affected. The results of this research should help us to understand the consumers' risk perception of imported goods and to formulate criteria on the basis of which the consumers evaluate these products. This research can help companies, particularly those in China, to formulate market strategies effectively when they enter a foreign market such as Korea by exploring the influence of the perceived risk on local consumers' purchasing behaviors as well.
The present paper extends the idea of tightened-normal-tightened sampling scheme to group acceptance sampling plans under the time truncated life tests. We consider three famous distributions that are widely used in the area of reliability such as the generalized exponential distribution, the Weibull distribution, and the Birnbaum-Saunders distribution in the proposed sampling plan. The plan parameters are determined such that the producer's risk and the consumer's risk are satisfied at the specified median life. Extensive tables showing plan parameters are provided at various values of the experiment time and the consumer's risk for each of three distributions for the practical use. Some examples are given to illustrate the procedure of the proposed plan.

This study investigated the effects of fashion consumer's browsing motives and risk perception on impulse buying and purchase intention in social commerce. The online survey results of 317 customers who experienced using fashion products via social commerce were used for the final analysis. Exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, and frequency analysis were conducted using SPSS 18.0, and confirmatory factor analysis and path analysis were performed with AMOS 18.0. Three browsing motives (hedonic motive, rational motive, and informational motive) and three risk perceptions (products-related risk, customer service risk, and opportunity loss risk) were identified. The results from the structure equation model were as follows. 1) It was deducted that the browsing motive did not have a significant effect on risk perception due to the rejection of most of the hypotheses in regards to the browsing motive influence on risk perception. 2) Product-related risk and customer service risk had a significantly negative effect on purchase intention. Opportunity loss risk had significantly positive effect on impulse buying and purchase intention. 3) Hedonic browsing motive had a significant effect on impulse buying, and rational motive had a significant effect on impulse buying and purchase intention. The informational browsing motive had a significant effect only on purchase intention.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship among consumer's perceived risk of apparel purchase in internet shopping mall, control, and impulse buying. The subjects were 319 female college students in Gyeongsang provinces. The obtained data were analyzed by reliability analysis, analysis of frequency, factor analysis, cluster analysis, one-way ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test, correlation analysis, and t-test. The major results of this study were as follows: First, three factors of consumer's perceived risk of apparel purchase in internet shopping mall were identified: size risk, trust risk, and social/psychological risk. Second, the subjects were categorized into three different types of groups according to perceived risk: high perceived risk type, middle perceived risk type, and low perceived risk type. Third, three control(self-control, goal-control, and desire for control) and three impulse buying(impulsive buying for showing off, impulsive buying for excitement, and impulsive buying due to memory) were identified. Fourth, there was significant difference between strong control group and weak control group on three factors of impulse buying. Fifth, a significant positive correlation was found size risk and three factors of control and a significant negative correlation was found self-control and three factors of impulse buying.
Consumers' perception of risk plays a major role in how they make online purchase decisions. Since online shopping is perceived to be riskier than in-store shopping, consumers engage in a variety of risk reduction strategies such as searching online for alternative products and alternative e-tailers. This study examines the influence of risk involvement on risk reduction strategies and customer satisfaction. It discusses three aspects of risk reduction strategies: time spent in making a purchasing decision, searching for alternative e-tailers, and searching for alternative products. Data from 294 female shoppers who had experience in purchasing fashion products online was analyzed. This study found that risk involvement had a positive influence on the time spent in making decisions, while the influence of risk involvement on searching for alternative retailers and alternative products was not significant. However, consumer satisfaction was negatively related to search for alternative retailers and positively related to risk involvement. This study provides a better understanding of customers' risk involvement and risk reduction strategies in online shopping. This information would be beneficial for marketers and retailers to reduce customer perception of risks and to promote online sales.
Purpose - The ICT(information and communications technologies) development is affecting consumer behaviors on selecting channel or distribution system. This study aims to advance our knowledge about the factors influencing omni-channel behaviors. This study considers the positive brand experience as the moderating variable into the relationship between omini-channel use intention and consumer brand relation. Also, the effect of positive brand experience on consumer-brand relation is researched. Research design, data, and methodology - This study conducted an empirical test with the subject as customers who purchase goods or service through on-off cross channel simultaneously. The research model is developed from prior literatures about influencing variables on channel selection. The structure of this study is designed to identify causal relationships between the variables. 268 survey data from the questionnaire survey which is conducted to target customers who use online and offline channels, is used for empirical analysis. This study validates generality with descriptive statistics and data reliability with Cronbach's alpha value. The exploratory factor analysis is used for value purification. Then, the confirmatory factor analysis is conducted for structural equation modeling. Finally, the execute structural equation modeling is analyzed to confirm the hypotheses Results - First, the two causal influences between perceived performance risk and the propensity of omni-channel and between price consciousness and the propensity of omni-channel are verified through the empirical test. Second, the result identifies that the propensity of omni-channel is influenced on consumer-brand relationship. Third, the AMOS analysis proves that the moderating variable, positive brand experience, has significant positive impact on consumer-brand relationship. This significant relationship is highly supported by the regression analysis between brand experience and propensity of omni-channel because it results that positive brand experience has positive impact on the propensity of omni-channel. All hypotheses are verified to be true. Conclusions - Based on the empirical result, this study confirms that perceived performance risk and price consciousness are the important factors influencing propensity of omni-channel. According to the additional analysis, the moderating variable and positive brand experience plays important role between the propensity of omni-channel and consumer-brand relationship. Furthermore, positive brand experience influences more on consumer-brand relationship than non-positive brand experience.
The purpose of this study was to analyze contents of clothing product evaluation statements in the internet shopping mall and to discover consumers' recognition and evaluation of it. The data were collected from 151 consumers' statements in the four internet apparel shopping malls and a questionnaire was developed to measure consumers' recognition of clothing product evaluation statements. The questionnaire was administrated 272 consumers over 18 years old. The results of this study were as follows; First, The contents of clothing product evaluation statements in the internet shopping blog, were divided into three categories which were product, service and consumer buying decision process. Product category include evaluation of clothing product, description of difference between real product and product on the screen, and advice of uses. Service category include quickness and kindness in delivery, store preference for good service. For consumer buying decision process, motivation of purchasing, perceived risk, expression of satisfaction from good buying and canvassing for purchasing were included. Second, consumer recognized that clothing product evaluation statements has function of furnishing information, confirmation of purchasing decision, risk reduction of internet shopping, and interesting entertainment. Consumers also were dependent on product evaluation statements for making purchasing decision. And it was trusted by consumers. This recognition & evaluation were correlated with consumer's clothing product knowledge, involvement, risk perception of internet shopping, experiences of internet shopping. Managerial implications are provided for internet shopping mall.
Purpose - The paper aims to develop the theory of TAM and perceived risk through a more comprehensive and rigorous understanding of the influencing factors of the consumer's adoption of LG HomNet smart home from the perspective of trade-offs. Design/methodology - Based on the TAM and perceived risk theory, combined with the individual characteristics of consumers in the context of information technology as the external factors of the technology acceptance model, this paper constructs a theoretical model of the factors affecting the use intention of the consumer. It was empirically tested by using SEM, and survey data was collected from 458 respondents. Findings - The research results show that 9 hypotheses of the research model are supported and have reliable prediction accuracy. Consumers' perceived interest, perceived connectivity and perceived controllability have a significant positive impact on their intention to use. In addition, this paper also confirmed the mediating effect of perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Originality/value - Consumers are very concerned about gains and losses. Low-level performance risks, security risks, and financial risks will drive the consumer to have a stronger intention to use, and financial risks have the strongest impact. This research provides a useful implication and guidance for smart home equipment manufacturers and service providers in product and service innovation and marketing and promotion strategies.
