  • Phased isolation intrachannel clarifier ditch process developed in this study is an enhanced biological nutrient removal process employing two ditches with intrachannel clarifiers. Bench-scale phased isolation ditch process was used to evaluate the system performance on municipal wastewater and detailed assessment of internal behavior in a ditch and each reactions. When the system was operated at the HRTs of 6~12hours, SRTs of 9~31 days, and cycle times of 4hours, the system showed removals of BOD, TN, and TP as high as 88~97%, 73~78%, and 65~90%, respectively. The internal behavior were well matched on each reactions such as nitrification, denitrification, and phosphorus release and uptake. As the SRT became longer, TN removal increased gradually, whereas TP removal decreased contrarily. However, the system was capable of producing an effluent TP concentration 1mg/L or less even at longer SRTs except the case of solids discharge by malfunction of intra-clarifier occurred by its geometrical limit. The system performance slightly decreased by hydraulic shock loading(increasing of influent flowrate and decreasing of system HRT). However, the higher system performance could be achieved again after four cycles. Thus, the system reliability could be successfully achieved short-term hydraulic shock loading that occurred in medium- and small-sized wastewater treatment plants suffering fluctuation of influent quality and flowrate during wet season.

  • The physicochemical properties of solid wastes generated from seven highway service areas, four branch offices, and one construction site were analyzed in concert with air pollutants including heavy metals emitted from near-by small-scale incinerators. The amount of solid wastes generated from highway areas has been increasing with recent increases in the number of highways and passengers. Twelve incinerators examined in this study generally had capacity smaller than 100 kg/hr, most of which were equipped with cyclone for dust removal. It was seen that the concentrations of the gas-phase air pollutants (e.g., SO$_2$, NO$_{x}$, HCl and H$_2$S) were above the acceptable emission standards except one or two sites. CO concentrations at all incinerators were also higher due to incomplete combustion. In addition, particulate matters showed concentration six times higher at their maximum. The results of heavy metal analysis showed that the concentrations of Cu, Cd, and Ni satisfied the emission standards. whereas Pb at one site and Zn at five sites exceeded the standards. Cr measurement results indicated that 9 of 12 incinerators had higher values than the standard; especially one branch office showed nine times higher than normal concentration. In order to satisfy more stringent emission standards in the near future, it is necessary to install air pollution control system and to develop an intensified management plan.n.

  • The precast production has many advantages by fast construction period, labor-saving and high quality. In recent years, the application of the precast product has been increased in the earth retaining wall field. This paper presents the results of the numerical analysis that was carried out to evaluate the dynamic stability of precast and prestressed earth retaining wall under moving train load. The two-dimensional FEM analysis was used to the numerical analyses. The train load to act on trackbed is combined by the real measured roughness phase angle and quasi-static load. The dynamic stability is analysed by the displacement, acceleration and stress under moving train load at each specified location. The results of the analysis show that the precast and prestressed retaining wall has very stable capability for the railway.

  • In case of the large-scaled indoor gymnasium that has been constructed in the local area, there are many instances for the use as multipurpose space where the public performances are possible such as leisure activity, lecture, assembling activity, drama, concert and so on for the resident together with the purpose of sporting facility. In order for utilization to the maximum of the function of such indoor gymnasium, the acoustic capabilities concerned with Definition of both Voice and Music are simultaneously required. However, in case of the large-scaled athletic facility, since it was designed with high ceiling-height in view of its characteristics, it forms a Sound Focus and then the sound is concentrating to the specific part, and because the vibration of sound is too loud due to its broad volume, the acoustic defects such as many Echoes are arising. On such viewpoint, based on the drawing of the indoor gymnasium that is scheduled to be built at B County, Chonbuk Province, this Study has proposed such indoor gymnasium equipped with the optimized acoustic condition passing through Acoustic Simulation Phase. As the result of Acoustic Simulation, we could design the indoor gymnasium that equipped with really satisfying acoustic performance 'after' reformation compared with 'before' reformation, and it is considering that such material could be utilized as the fundamental material that brings a curtailment effect of the construction cost and also enables us to improve the acoustic performance, at the stage of planning and designing for the similar sporting facility in the future.

  • The relationships of El Nino and La Nina with both temperature and precipitation in South Korea is studied. Monthly temperature and precipitation are analyzed using harmonic analysis to identify region, magnitude and season that have responses associated with El Nino and La Nina. The first harmonic is extracted from a 24 month El Nino and La Nina composite at each station. The regions are identified by the similarity in the phase of the harmonic vectors. The responses of precipitation to El Nino and La Nina are found in the all regions. However, the response of precipitation to El Nino and La Nina is identified only in the southern region. In addition, statistical significance for response periods is investigated through cross correlation analysis. Once an El Nino and a La Nina event set in, the results of this analysis can provide an efficient information for the management of water resources, agriculture and environment.

  • The BIM called information modeling is used by tool not only it will simply be appearing the image and can save the information. Recently, there is a lot of case that improves the construction productivity by using the BIM during the life cycle of bridge from order to management. Although we already recognize the advantage of BIM, it is a careful phase to use the BIM. Therefore, We made the BIM for bridge, evaluated the possibility that can build the object used in the civil engineer, studied about the utility, the improvement in order to use the BIM properly. As a result, the BIM can recycle the information by using parametric model and attribute the efficiency and accuracy on drawing and calculating the quantity. The BIM is able to help productivity increase by using the builded model after we spend the effort building a model in early stage.

  • Nano sized SiC particles (270 nm) are easily agglomerated in nickel sulfamate electrolytic bath during a composite electrodeposition process. The agglomeration of nano particles in composite coatings can significantly reduce the mechanical properties of the composite coatings. In this study, Ni-SiC nano composite coatings were fabricated using a conventional electrodeposition process with the aid of ultrasound. Nano particles were found to be distributed homogeneously with reduced agglomeration in the ultrasonicated samples. Substantial improvements in mechanical properties were observed in the composite coatings prepared in presence of ultrasound over those without ultrasound. Ni-SiC composite coatings were prepared with variable ultrasonic frequencies ranging from 24 kHz to 78 kHz and ultrasonic powers up to 300 watts. The ultrasonic frequency of 38 kHz with ultrasonic power of 200 watt was revealed to be the best ultrasonic conditions for homogeneous dispersion of nano SiC particles with improved mechanical properties in the composite coatings. The microstructures, phase compositions, and mechanical properties of the composite coatings were observed and evaluated using SEM, XRD, Vickers microhardness, and wear test. The Vickers microhardness of composite coatings under ultrasonic condition was significantly improved as compared to the coatings without ultrasound. The friction coefficient of the composite coating prepared with an ultrasonic condition was also smaller than the pure nickel coatings. A synergistic combination of superior wear resistance and improved microhardness was found in the Ni-SiC composite coatings prepared with ultrasonic conditions.

  • Message Sequence Charts(MSC) has been used to describe the interactions of numerous concurrent tasks in telecommunication software. After the MSC specification is verified in requirement analysis phase, it can be used not only to synthesize state-based design models, but also to generate test sequences. Until now, the verification is accomplished by generating global state transition graph using the location information only. In this paper, we extend the condition statement of MSC to describe the activation condition of scenarios and the change of state variables, and propose an approach to construct global finite state machine (GFSM) using this information. The GFSM only includes feasible states and transitions of the system. We can generate the test sequences using the existing FSM-based test sequence generation technology.

  • A fully coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical model is established to evaluate frost heave behaviour of saturated frost-susceptible soils. The method is based on mass conservation, energy conservation, and force equilibrium equations, which are fully coupled with each other. These equations consider various physical phenomena during one-dimensional soil freezing such as latent heat of phase change, thermal conductivity changes, pore water migration, and the accompanying mechanical deformation. Using the thermo-hydro-mechanical model, a sensitivity analysis study is conducted to examine the effects of the geotechnical parameters and external conditions on the amount of frost heave and frost heaving rate. According to the results of the sensitivity analysis, initial void ratio significantly affects each objective as an individual parameter, whereas soil particle thermal conductivity and temperature gradient affect frost heave behaviour to a greater degree when applied simultaneously. The factors considered in this study are the main factors affecting the frost heaving amount and rate, which may be used to determine the frostbite sensitivity of a new sample.

  • Platform convergence originated from the convergence of broadcast and telecommunication is making rapid progress including IT and not-IT fields in order to provide a variety of converged services, S/W eco-system construction, and so on. With the advent of convergence environment, IEEE 802.15.4-based RF4CE technology is rising because of creating momentum for the market using converged connectivity between home and office devices as well as all around located devices. In this paper, we present enhanced RF4CE key seed distribution approach in order to provide efficient connection and control between devices. The proposed approach consists of device mutual authentication, initial vector assignment, and two-phase key seed distribution. Moreover, we make a development real RF4CE test board and its key agreement simulator to verify the proposed approach.
