  • Data Loggers for environmental monitoring are mostly dispersion in installation and systems located at long distance from monitoring system. And, it requests mostly flexible functions and high performances. that can fit to various sensor inputs, sensor interfaces and conditions or system working. In this research, we developed the micro controller based Data Logger with minimum hardware construction that allows the higher flexibility of application. Finally, we developed software function for water quality monitoring and tested in real system launched at Han river.

Application of Sensor Technology for the Efficient Positioningand Assembling of Ship Blocks

  • This paper proposes the application of sensor technology to assemble ship blocks efficiently. A sensor-based monitoring system is designed and implemented to improve shipbuilding productivity by reducing the labor cost for the adjustment of adequate positioning between ship blocks during pre-erection or erection stage. For the real-time remote monitoring of relative distances between two ship blocks, sensor nodes are applied to measure the distances between corresponding target points on the blocks. Highly precise positioning data can be transferred to a monitoring server via wireless network, and analyzed to support the decision making which needs to determine the next construction process; further adjustment or seam welding between the ship blocks. The developed system is expected to put to practical use, and increase the productivity during ship blocks assembly.

  • In this study, a sensor for detecting corrosion of rebar embedded in reinforced concrete structures was fabricated and its performance was verified. In order to monitor the open circuit potential(OCP) of the rebar embedded in reinforced concrete, a concrete embedded solid electrode was constructed as a sensor using MnO2. The OCP of the rebar could be observed using a sensor and a data logger. The decrease of the OCP to -510mV (vs.MnO2) or less was judged to be corrosion of the rebar. Since it is a solid-mediated sensor, it is more stable and durable than an electrode using an aqueous solution, and it is considered that the corrosion state of the rebar can be monitored for a long period of time.

  • In this study, an experimental study was conducted on the development of crack monitoring technology in buildings using a mechanochromic sensor. After attaching a mechanochromic sensor to the cracks induced in the concrete specimen, the color variation image of the sensor according to the progress of the cracks was taken. In addition, a method of analyzing a sensor color variation image was proposed, and an equation for deriving a crack's width from the relationship between the analysis result and the crack width was also proposed. In addition, the possibility of using an mechanochromic sensor for monitoring cracks in buildings was confirmed through the verification of crack width monitoring technology.

Monitoring of bridge overlay using shrinkage-modified high performance concrete based on strain and moisture evolution

  • High performance concrete (HPC) has been extensively used in thin overlay for repair purpose due to its excellent strength and durability. This paper presents an experiment, where the sensor-instrumented HPC overlays have been followed by dynamic strain and moisture content monitoring for 1 year, under normal traffic. The vibrating wire and soil moisture sensors were embedded in overlay before construction. Four given HPC mixes (2 original mixes and their shrinkage-modified mixes) were used for overlays to contrast the strain and moisture results. A calibration method to accurately measure the moisture content for a given concrete mixture using soil moisture sensor was established. The monitoring results indicated that the modified mixes performed much better than the original mixes in shrinkage cracking control. Weather condition and concrete maturity at early age greatly affected the strain in concrete. The strain in HPC overlay was primarily in longitudinal direction, leading to transverse cracks. Additionally, the most moisture loss in concrete occurred at early age. Its rate was very dependent on weather. After one year, cracking survey was carried out by vision to verify the strain direction and no cracks observed in shrinkage modified mixes.

A Study of the Real-time Sensing by the Optical Current Sensor for GIS

  • In this study, a Web server was constructed using LabVIEW's DataSocket, which makes possible acquisition, analysis, and saving in real time. The output value of the optical current sensor at the web server PC was measured and the output value was displayed using the Web browser of the client PC. DataSocket by LabVIEW makes the construction of a Web server easier than other languages and is compatible with other application programs. An optical current sensor was composed using a 1310 [nm] laser diode, and 9/125 [${\mu}m$] standard single mode optical fiber and was created to be a close type sensor. Data measurement using Web servers has the advantage of monitoring electric power systems at a great distance and can fuse IT technology and electric power systems. Also, this measurement uses inexpensive mounting and programming when compared to existing measurement equipment allowing the construction of a measurement system in any situation or surrounding.

  • The purpose of this study is to research the regulation of durability standard of underground structures monitoring sensors. The durability criteria for construction monitoring sensors of domestic construction companies, the standard years of contents such as buildings on the income tax implementation regulations, and the standards of the Public Procurement Service for construction monitoring and construction machinery were analyzed. The durability criterion on products such as the inclination meter and the strain gauge, which are purchased from the Public Procurement Service prior to installation on the underground structure, is 8 to 10 years. It is considered that the monitoring sensor installed in the paperboard and the concrete structure at the time of construction will have considerably shortened service life rather than the useful life of the product itself due to various adverse factors such as groundwater influence and compaction.

  • Measurements of temporary earth retaining wall during construction are essential for the safety and control of building under construction. As there is a rapid development in sensor technologies, new system of coordinate sensor is developed and applied to a construction site. The new system is capable of measuring three dimensional coordinates continuously over time. It makes possible to monitor the behavior of the temporary earth retaining wall real-time. In this paper, the results of such measurements are provided with real data.

  • Concrete placement work is executed using temporary structures such as formwork, support, etc. The temporary structures could collapse when they are not properly supported, and need to be monitored for structural safety. This paper introduces a USN (Ubiquitous Sensor Network)-based monitoring system that are being tested at the Pusan National University for increasing structural safety. The system takes advantage of ubiquitous technologies together with a variety of sensors, which allows for wireless transmission of construction monitoring data. The temporary structures are constantly monitored to find out whether the structures are being supported in a stable condition. A field test is being conducted to acquire data, and use them for evaluating the safety condition of the construction operation.

  • In view of the problems of insufficient data collection and processing capability of multi-source heterogeneous equipment, and low visibility of equipment status at the ship block construction site. A data collection method for ship block construction equipment based on wireless sensor network (WSN) technology and a data processing method based on edge computing were proposed. Based on the Browser/Server (B/S) architecture and the OneNET platform, an online monitoring system for ship block construction equipment was designed and developed, which realized the visual online monitoring and management of the ship block construction equipment status. Not only that, the feasibility and reliability of the monitoring system were verified by using the intelligent tire frame system as the application object. The research of this project can lay the foundation for the ship block construction equipment management and the ship block intelligent construction, and ultimately improve the quality and efficiency of ship block construction.
