  • Due to the recent overpopulation of urban cities, land shortage and soaring land prices have caused an increase in the demand for high-rise buildings. To build buildings on a limited land, the size of the building is important. Displacement control by horizontal loads in a skyscraper is critical to securing stability and usability of structures. Several systems have been proposed for efficient horizontal displacement control, and so far the study continues. Among them, the Outrigger System is a representative of the typical horizontal load resistance system. Although studies have been conducted so far to locate the optimal position of the outrigger, studies of the slenderness ratio of the buildings are still insufficient. Based on the Outrigger-Optimized Position equation, this study induces the calculation of the displacement of the outrigger installation building according to the slenderness ratio.

  • Beginning a few decades ago, Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan, has experienced a dramatic construction boom that is revitalizing its skyline. The expansive growth looks to uphold the historic past of Baku as a focal point within the Caspian Sea Region while also evoking aspirations for a city of the future. With superstructure complete and interiors progressing, the Ministry of Taxation (MOT) tower is the latest addition to the city, with its stacked cubes twisting above a multi-level podium at the base. Each cube is separated by column-free green roof terraces, creating unique parametric reveals of the developing surroundings. Aside from MOT's stunning shape, its geolocation resulted in unusually high wind loads coupled with high seismic hazards for a tower of its height. In addition, limitations on possible structural systems required stepping away from a typical prescriptive code-based approach into one that utilized Performance-Based Design (PBD) methods. This paper presents the numerous structural challenges and innovations that allowed the design of a new icon to be realized.

  • Structural stress analysis is performed to confirm the safety of the structures before the construction, and stress analysis is performed to evaluate the safety of various components before the ship or vehicle corresponding to the moving structure is manufactured. In this case, the stress analysis work is performed using the stress analysis software of each company. The results of the stress analysis based on the boundary conditions of the applied loads are analyzed to evaluate the safety of the structure, but the results are difficult to verify because most of the stress analysis software possessed by each company is one. In this paper, we were performed the stress analysis of the bracket applied to the bare chassis of the 30-passenger bus under development is performed by HYPERMESH. In order to verify this, the stress analysis is performed using ANSA/META under the same boundary condition. The stress analysis results of ANSA/META and HYPERMESH showed that they had the same stress distribution and the maximum stress occurred at the same location. Taken together, the results of stress analysis using HYPERMESH were reliable.

  • Different methods have been proposed in the literature for splicing the reinforcing bars in the construction of concrete structures, which are alternatively used depending on design requirements. The most common approach is the lap splicing which is known as a cost-effective method although, its main disadvantages including congestion of bars at the lap zone and consequently, material wastage has motivated utilization of the other techniques such as mechanical splices (couplers). To better evaluate the performance of the couplers, 6 reinforced concrete (RC) beams whose difference is only the type and location of splices have been experimentally studied in this paper. Based on the results, the mechanical connection of the bars did not markedly affect the load-carrying capacity of the specimens. Moreover, it was observed that after applying the loads and failure of the specimens, none of the bars ruptured at the splice location and all couplers remained undamaged.

  • In wireless sensor network, many sensor nodes are distributed in the field. They communicate the sensing data each other and forward it to sink. Routing protocols, which define the delivery methods of sending data, affect to the lifetime of sensor network. This paper proposes RTAF that is a routing-tree construction algorithm of sensor nodes by a single flooding process in wireless sensor network. A routing tree is constructed by selecting a parent node using the forward-direction flooding packet and gathering children nodes using the reverse-direction flooding packet. In this process, a node with much energy becomes the parent node. And the routing tree is periodically reconstructed in order to distribute the loads of parent nodes. The proposed algorithm compared performance with Modified-LEACH using NS2 network simulation tool. The simulation result shows that the proposed algorithm constructs a routing-tree faster and reduced 40-80% in routing-tree construction packet.

  • Shear strengths of reinforced high strength concrete beams without web reinforcement are studied with experimental analysis of 10 specimen with 2.4 shear span-to-depth ratio (a/d) beams for 4 stages of concrete compressive stength over 60MPa comparing ultimate loads and shear stresses of ACI363R and KCI code equations. Expecially, concrete compressive strengths used in shear design were essentially limited to 10,000 psi (69MPa) by ACI363R and KCI Code. The modified Code equation's shear stresses of the specimen without the limit are compared with test results. The comparison between the modified exist Code equations results and test results are expected to show an available scope to apply in construction field and to give considerations of design and contraction.

  • This paper presents the results of an investigation aimed at developing reinforced concrete beams consisting of precast permanent U-shaped reinforced mortar forms filled with different types of core materials to be used as a viable alternative to the conventional reinforced concrete beam. To accomplish this objective, an experimental program was conducted and theoretical model was adopted. The experimental program comprised casting and testing of thirty beams of total dimensions $300{\times}150{\times}2,000mm$ consisting of permanent precast U-shaped reinforced mortar forms of thickness 25 mm filled with the core material. Three additional typical reinforced concrete beams of the same total dimensions were also cast to serve as control specimens. Two types of single-layer and double-layers steel meshes were used to reinforce the permanent U-shaped forms; namely welded wire mesh and X8 expanded steel mesh. Three types of core materials were investigated: conventional concrete, autoclaved aerated lightweight concrete brick, and recycled concrete. Two types of shear connections between the precast permanent reinforced mortar form and the core material were investigated namely; adhesive bonding layer between the two surfaces, and mechanical shear connectors. The test specimens were tested as simple beams under three-point loadings on a span of 1,800 mm. The behavior of the beams incorporating the permanent forms was compared to that of the control beams. The experimental results showed that better crack resistance, high serviceability and ultimate loads, and good energy absorption could be achieved by using the proposed beams which verifies the validity of using the proposed system. The theoretical results compared well with the experimental ones.

  • The objective of this study was to estimate the climate change impact on water quantity and quality to Saemanguem watershed using SWAT (Soil and water assessment tool) model. The SWAT model was calibrated and validated using observed data from 2008 to 2017 for the study watershed. The $R^2$ (Determination coefficient), RMSE (Root mean square error), and NSE (Nash-sutcliffe efficiency coefficient) were used to evaluate the model performance. RCP scenario data were produced from 10 GCM (General circulation model) and all relevant grid data including the major observation points (Gusan, Jeonju, Buan, Jeongeup) were extracted. The systematic error evaluation of the GCM model outputs was performed as well. They showed various variations based on analysis of future climate change effects. In future periods, the MIROC5 model showed the maximum values and the CMCC-CM model presented the minimum values in the climate data. Increasing rainfall amount was from 180mm to 250mm and increasing temperature value ranged from 1.7 to $5.9^{\circ}C$, respectively, compared with the baseline (2006~2017) in 10 GCM model outputs. The future 2030s and 2070s runoff showed increasing rate of 16~29% under future climate data. The future rate of change for T-N (Total nitrogen) and T-P (Total phosphorus) loads presented from -26 to +0.13% and from +5 to 47%, respectively. The hydrologic cycle and water quality from the Saemanguem headwater were very sensitive to projected climate change scenarios so that GCM model should be carefully selected for the purpose of use and the tendency analysis of GCM model are needed if necessary.

  • Final construction project cost is significantly determined by construction rate. The Industrialized Building System (IBS) was promoted to enhance the importance of prefabrication technology rather than conventional methods in construction. Ensuring the stability of a building constructed by using IBS is a challenging issue. Accordingly, the connections in a prefabricated building have a basic, natural, and essential role in providing the best continuity among the members of the building. Deficiencies of conventional precast connections were observed when precast buildings experience a large induced load, such as earthquakes and other disasters. Thus, researchers aim to determine the behavior of precast concrete structure with a specific type of connection. To clarify this problem, this study investigates the capacity behavior of precast concrete panel connections for industrial buildings with a new type of precast wall-to-wall connection (i.e., U-shaped steel channel connection). This capacity behavior is compared with the capacity behavior of precast concrete panel connections for industrial buildings that used a common approach (i.e., loop connection), which is subjected to monotonic loading as in-plane and out-of-plane loading by developing a finite element model. The principal stress distribution, deformation of concrete panels and welded wire mesh (BRC) reinforcements, plastic strain trend in the concrete panels and connections, and crack propagations are investigated for the aforementioned connection. Pushover analysis revealed that loop connections have significant defects in terms of strength for in-plane and out-of-plane loads at three translational degrees of freedom compared with the U-shaped steel channel connection.
