  • Shaking tables are devices for testing structures or structural components models with a wide range of synthetic ground motions or real recorded earthquakes. They are essential tools in earthquake engineering research since they simulate the effects of the true inertial forces on the test specimens. The destructive earthquakes that occurred at the north part of Algeria during the period of 1954-2003 resulted in an initiative from the Algerian authorities for the construction of a shaking simulator at the National Earthquake Engineering Research Center, CGS. The acceleration tracking performance and specifically the inability of the earthquake simulator to accurately replicate the input signal can be considered as the main challenge during shaking table test. The objective of this study is to validate the uni-axial sinusoidal performances curves and to assess the accuracy and fidelity in signal reproduction using the advanced adaptive control techniques incorporated into the MTS Digital controller and software of the CGS shaking table. A set of shake table tests using harmonic and earthquake acceleration records as reference/commanded signals were performed for four test configurations: bare table, 60 t rigid mass and two 20 t elastic specimens with natural frequencies of 5 Hz and 10 Hz.

  • This research work is to investigate influences of the Opera House in Arts Center caused by the twin tunnel construction. The Opera House of 3D structural feature with various type of foundations and adjacent twin tunnels are modeled in 3-Dimensional mesh for FEM analysis. Confirmation of safety is essential for this particular type of structure, and attention level and warning level of control criteria are examined for the protection of the Opera House by means of the analytical results.

  • A three dimensional model for the orebody of an operating mine in Korea was constructed by using a program called '3-D Modeler'. The program allows the user to interactively construct a 3-D model of an orebody from its horizontal cross-sections. The 3-D Modeler is easily able to combine and display various spatial data for model construction. The result of modeling is strongly influenced by control points that correlate to the adjacent horizontal cross-sections. The control points are determined by comparing the geometrical shape of the adjacent cross-sections in conjunction with the geological features of the orebody. The resulting model can be evaluated in viewing the constructed object in three dimensional space or more closely evaluated by inspecting the cross-section. The model can iteratively be improved by modifying the shape of the cross-section and by using this new cross-section for the model building.

  • FBA(flux balance analysis) with Boolean rules for representing regulatory events has correctly predicted cellular behaviors, such as optimal flux distribution, maximal growth rate, metabolic by-product, and substrate concentration changes, with various environmental conditions. However, until now, since FBA has not taken into account a hierarchical regulatory network, it has limited the representation of the whole transcriptional regulation mechanism and interactions between specific regulatory proteins and genes. In this paper, in order to solve these problems, we describe the construction of hierarchical regulatory network with defined symbols and the introduction of a weight for representing interactions between symbols. Finally, the whole cellular behaviors with time were simulated through the linkage of a hierarchical regulatory network module and dynamic simulation module including FBA. The central metabolic network of E. coli was chosen as the basic model to identify our suggested modeling method.

  • Dependability-critical systems, such as digital instrumentation and control systems in nuclear power plants, necessitate engineering techniques and tools to provide assurances of their safety and reliability. Determining system reliability at the architectural design phase is important since it may guide design decisions and provide crucial information for trade-off analysis and estimating system cost. Despite this, reliability and system engineering remain separate disciplines and engineering processes by which the dependability analysis results may not represent the designed system. In this article we provide an overview and application of our approach to build architecture-based, dynamic system models for dependability-critical systems and then automatically generate dynamic fault trees (DFT) for comprehensive, tool-supported reliability analysis. Specifically, we use the Architectural Analysis and Design Language (AADL) to model the structural, behavioral and failure aspects of the system in a composite architecture model. From the AADL model, we seek to derive the DFT(s) and use Galileo's automated reliability analyses to estimate system reliability. This approach alleviates the dependability engineering - systems engineering knowledge expertise gap, integrates the dependability and system engineering design and development processes and enables a more formal, automated and consistent DFT construction. We illustrate this work using an example based on a dynamic digital feed-water control system for a nuclear reactor.

  • In order to achieve performance assessment and optimal control of a double-skin system, an accurate simulation model is required. In the previous study, a lumped simulation model of such system was developed. As a follow-up of the previous research, the first objective of this paper is to investigate how the mathematical model should be calibrated according to system configuration(cavity width, depth, height, airflow pattern, local environment, etc.). And the second objective of this study is to discuss the effect of local weather information. In conclusion, this paper describes that the model should be recalibrated according to configuration. And it is necessary to have local weather information for accurate prediction and optimal control of the system.

  • In this study, an optimization technique was developed from the application of Allocation Rule. Average Allocation coefficients of the Andong and Imha dam compare constant water supply condition with vary water supply condition that are above the contribute ratio $67\%\~50\%$ the Andong dam in Rule(A)-Rule(C). In the Refill Season, Andong dam water supply contribution is higher than Imha dam at the Control point water supply. In the Allocation analysis results, Rule(A) is calculated storage ratio because Andong dam contribute to Control point larger than Imha dam which Andong dam storage is larger than Imha dam storage. Rule(B) calculated sum of the storage and inflow ratio for Andong dam and Imha dam, as Andong dam contribution is higher than Imha dam. Rule(C) calculated that sum of storage, inflow and water supply is divided average storage ratio, as the best results of the Allocation coefficients and water supply capacity. The results of storage analysis is larger vary water supply condition than constant water supply condition and the results of water supply analysis is larger vary water supply condition than constant water supply condition. Water supply deficit is decrease $30\%$ for vary water supply condition.

  • Recently the Volatile Organic Compound, HCHO, a harmful object spout from the construction materials is made an issue of social problem. Also the appearance of the building where the confidentiality is high was interior air pollution and it was brought about a huge problem. The government research facility and a relation industry sector conducts a many effort to improves like this actual condition. The Diverse ability building material which contains the natural material of the jade, the charcoal and the hwangto instead of the finish material which contains the harmful chemical material, is becoming development and utility. Hereupon the study have carried out research on hwangto plaster that was composed of hwangto and rice straw. The result of test that is deduced by basic proportion is properly appeared with suitable ratio of the hwangto and the sand to 4:6~5:5 by the compressive strength and crack control, workability. The result of test, that adds the rice straw to basic blending for a crack control, appeared with the fact that it is most suitable 3%to add the rice straw that has a length of 0.5cm~2cm. The result of test that plaster over the large size to compare a cement plaster with a hwangto plaster show a similar efficiency by workability. Also it controlled the crack and peeling off actual condition which is discovered from the hwangto plaster of existing perfectly.

  • The matrix converter provides sinusoidal input and output wave forms, bidirectional power flow, controllable input power factor and a long life, compared to the VSI(Voltage Source Inverter) with diode rectification stage at the input. However it has tasks, such as complexity of the control method, ride-through problem and low voltage-ratio limitation, to overcome for commercializing, This paper describes the design, construction and implementation of matrix converter based on space vector modulation technique. The implemented prototype of matrix converter is built using the exclusive IGBT module and control circuit constituted with DSP and CPLD and it has an input filter, overvoltage protection circuit and commutation means for overcoming practical issues. The good results tested using an induction motor are also presented.
