  • This paper presents a method to enhance tracking performance of an input-constrained bilinear system using MPC (Model Predictive Control) when a feasible tracking control is known. Since the error dynamics induced by the known tracking control is asymptotically stable, there exists a Lyapunov function for the stable error dynamics. By defining a cost function including the Lyapunov function and describing tracking performance, an MPC law is derived. In simulation, the performance of the proposed MPC law is demonstrated by applying it to a converter model.

  • This paper investigates an adaptive approximation design problem for the tracking control of output-constrained non-affine pure-feedback systems. To satisfy the desired performance without constraint violation, we employ a barrier Lyapunov function which grows to infinity whenever its argument approaches some limits. The main difficulty in dealing with pure-feedback systems considering output constraints is that the system has a non-affine appearance of the constrained variable to be used as a virtual control. To overcome this difficulty, the implicit function theorem and mean value theorem are exploited to assert the existence of the desired virtual and actual controls. The function approximation technique based on adaptive neural networks is used to estimate the desired control inputs. It is shown that all signals in the closed-loop system are uniformly ultimately bounded.

  • There are a variety of trajectory and control algorithms available for robot trajectory tracking. Before using the enhanced trajectory and control algorithms to reduce the tracking error, we introduce the new method which reduces the tracking error by clipping the joint velocity. A lot of robot trajectory tracking methods are proposed to enhance the robot tracking, but irregular tracking errors are always accompanied. Up to now, these irregular tracking errors are gradually but uniformly reduced by introducing more complicated control algorithms. It is intuitively obvious to reduce only the big errors selectively in the irregular ones for the better performance. By heuristic method, big tracking errors in these irregular ones are assumed mostly due to the fast moving of joint with respect to the same tracking and control method. So, in this paper, we introduce a new method which reduce the big tracking errors by clippings the joint velocity with the constraint of given path. Using this method, desired trajectory tracking is obtained within the far reduced error bound. Also, this method is successfully applied to generate the path-constrained error reducing trajectories for 2-axis SCARA type robot.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel adaptive feedforward controller for periodic disturbance and noise cancellation, with a frequency tracking capability. It can be added to an existing feedback control system without altering the original closed-loop characteristics, which is based on adaptive algorithm. We introduce novel algorithm "Constrained AFC(adaptive feedforward controller) algorithm" that increase the convergence region regardless of the delay in the closed loop system. In the algorithms, coefficients of the controller are adapted using the residuals of constrained structure which are defined in such a way that the coefficients become time invariant. The proposed algorithm not only estimate the magnitude and phase of the tonal disturbance and noise but also track the frequency of the tone, which changes in quasi-static manner. The frequency tracking algorithm uses the instantaneous frequency approach based on Hilbert transform. A number of computer simulations have been carried out in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed method under various conditions.

  • In this work, a master-slave manipulator system which will be used for handling objects contaminated by radioactivity has been addressed. The links of manipulators are driven independently by individual motors installed on the base and the driving torque is transmitted through pre-tensioned tendons. Since the measurable variables are the positions and rates of master/slave motors, only a constrained specific bilateral control structure is available. In the consideration of the flexibility of the tendon and constrained control structure, we derived a necessity for tendon design to prevent uncontrollable vibration mode through a modal analysis. Based on a reduced rigid body model, a control design was suggested and tendons were selected. The feasibility of the proposed analysis and tendon design were verified along with some simulation results.

  • Because of the size and environment in the shipbuilding process, the portable type robot is required for the automatic seam tracking. For this reason, the structure of laser sensor should be considered in the initial design step and the coordinate transformation between welding robot and laser sensor, which is joint finder, must be identified exactly and the real time tracking algorithm based on these consideration could be developed. In this research, laser displacement sensor in which its structure is laser beam's vertical projection, is developed to recognize the location of weld joint. In practical applications, however, images of weld joints are often degraded because of the surface specularity or spatter. To overcome the problem, the constrained joint finding algorithm is proposed. In the approach of coordinate conversion rule for the visual feedback control among welding torch, robot body and laser sensor is applied by the same reference point method. In the real time seam tracking algorithms we propose constrained sampling method which uses look ahead distance. The RLS(Recursive Least Square) filter is applied to obtain the smooth tracking path from the sensitive edge data. From the experimental results, we could see the possibility that the developed laser sensor with proposed processing algorithm and real time seam tracking method can be used as a welding under the shipbuilding condition.

  • Mobile wheeled robots are nonholonomically constrained systems. Generally, it is very difficult to describe the motion of mechanical systems with nonintegrable nonholonomic constraints. An objective of this study is to describe the motion of a robot with a free wheel. The motion of holonomically and/or nonholonomically constrained system can be simply determined by Generalized Inverse Method presented by Udwadia and Kalaba in 1992. Using the method, we describe the exact motion of the robot and determine the constraint force exerted on the robot for satisfying constraints imposed on it. The application illustrates the ease with which the Generalized Inverse Method can be utilized for the purpose of control of nonlinear system without depending on any linearization, maintaining precision tracking motion and explicit determination of control forces of nonholonomically constrained system.

  • This paper deals with the control problem under nonlinear boiler systems with noise, and input constraints. MCMBPC(Multivariable Constrained Model-Based Predictive Controller) proposed by Wilkinson et al.[10,11] is used and nominal model is modified in this paper in order to applied to nonlinear boiler systems with feed-forward terms. The solution of the cost function optimization constrained on input and/or output variables is achieved using quadratic programming, via singular value decomposition(SVD). The controller designed is shown to satisfy the constraints and to have excellent tracking performance via simulation applied to nonlinear dynamic drum boiler turbine model for 16OMW unit.

  • In this study, position and force simultaneous trajectory tracking control apparatus with pneumatic cylinder driving system is proposed. The pneumatic cylinder driving system that consists of two pneumatic cylinders constrained in series and two proportional flow control valves offers a considerable advantage as to non-interaction of the actuators because of the low stiffness of the pneumatic actuators. The controller applied to the driving system is composed of a non-interaction controller to compensate for interaction of two cylinders and a disturbance observer to reduce the effect of model discrepancy of the driving system in the low frequency range that cannot be suppressed by the non-interaction controller. The experimental results with the proposed control apparatus show that the interacting effects of two cylinders are eliminated remarkably and the proposed control apparatus tracks the given position and force trajectory accurately.
