Among the various error sources in positioning and navigation, the paper focuses on the modeling and prediction of receiver clock bias and then tries to achieve positioning based on simulated and predicted clock bias. With the SA off, it is possible to model receiver clock bias more accurately. We selected several types of GNSS receivers for test using ARMA model. To facilitate prediction with short and limited sample pseudorange observations, AR and ARMA are compared, and the improved AR model is presented to model and predict receiver clock bias based on previous solutions. Our work extends to clock bias prediction and positioning based on predicted clock bias using only 3 satellites that is usually the case under urban canyon situation. In contrast to previous experiences, we find that a receiver clock bias can be well modeled using adopted ARMA model. Test has been done on various types of GNSS receivers to show the validation of developed model. To further develop this work, we compare solution conditions in terms of DOP values when point positioning is conducted using 3 satellites to simulate urban positioning environment. When condition allows, height component is derived from other ways and can be set as known values. Given this condition, location is possible using less than 2 GNSS satellites with fixed height. Solution condition is also discussed for this background using mode of constrained positioning. We finally suggest an effective predictive time span based on our test exploration under varied conditions.
Based on the dynamic anti-windup strategy a novel control methodology for state constrained control systems is presented. First a linear controller is designed for an open-loop stable plant to show a desirable nominal performance by ignoring state constraints. And then an additional dynamic compensator is introduced to preserve the nominal performance as closely as possible int he face of state constraints. This paper focuses on the second step under the assumption that a linear controller has already been designed appropriately by using an effective controller design method. By minimizing a reasonable performance index the dynamic compensator is derived explicitly which is expressed int he plant and controller parameters. the proposed method not only guarantees the total stability of the overall resulting systems but also provides desirable output performance because it solves the state-positioning problem completely.
Since the GPS absolute positioning with pseudorange measurements can significantly be affected by the observation error, the time series analysis of the GPS receiver clock errors was performed in this study. From the estimated receiver clock errors, the time series model is generated, and constrained back in the absolute positioning process. One of the CORS (Continuously Operating Reference Stations) network is used to analyze the behavior of the receiver clock. The dominant part of the model is the linear trend during 24 hours, and the seasonal component is also estimated. After constraining the modeled receiver clock errors, the estimated position error compared to the published coordinates is improved from ${\pm}11.4\;m\;to\;{\pm}9.5\;m$ in 3D RMS.
Wireless sensor networks (WSN) have attracted much attention in recent years due to their potential use in many applications such as border protection and combat field surveillance. Given the criticality of such applications, maintaining a dependable operation of the network is a fundamental objective. However, the resource constrained nature of sensor nodes and the ad-hoc formation of the network, often coupled with an unattended deployment, pose non-conventional challenges and motivate the need for special techniques for dependable design and management of WSN. In this article, we highlight the potential of careful positioning of the base station (BS), which acts as a sink resources.
This paper describes the development of new feature positioning method which embedded into the top-down assembly modeling system supporting conceptual design. In this work, the user provides the geometric constraints representing the position and size of features, then the system calculates their proper solution. The use of geometric constraints which are easy to understand intuitively enables the user to represent his design intents about geometric shapes, and enables the system to propagate the changes automatically when some editing occurs. To find the proper solution of given constraints, the Selective Solving Method in which the redundant or conflict equations are detected and discarded is devised. The validity of feature shapes satisfying the constraints can be maintained by this technique, and under or over constrained user-defined constraints can also be estimated. The problems such as getting the initial guess, controlling the multiple solutions, and dealing with objects of rotational symmetry are also resolved. Through this work, the feature based modeling system can support more general and convenient modeling method, and keeps the model being valid during modifying models.
Control allocation is an important part of a system. It implements the function that map the desired command forces from the controller into the commands of the different actuators. In this paper, the authors present an approach for solving constrained control allocation problem in vessel system by using multi-parametric quadratic programming (mp-QP) algorithm. The goal of mp-QP algorithm applied in this study is to compute a solution to minimize a quadratic performance index subject to linear equality and inequality constraints. The solution can be pre-computed off-line in the explicit form of a piecewise linear (PWL) function of the generalized forces and constrains. The efficiency of mp-QP approach is evaluated through a dynamic positioning simulation for a vessel by using four tugboats with constraints about limited pushing forces and found to work well.
Security and accuracy are two issues in the localization of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) that are difficult to balance in hostile indoor environments. Massive numbers of malicious positioning requests may cause the functional failure of an entire WSN. To eliminate the misjudgments caused by malicious nodes, we propose a compressive-sensing-based multiregional secure localization (CSMR_SL) algorithm to reduce the impact of malicious users on secure positioning by considering the resource-constrained nature of WSNs. In CSMR_SL, a multiregion offline mechanism is introduced to identify malicious nodes and a preprocessing procedure is adopted to weight and balance the contributions of anchor nodes. Simulation results show that CSMR_SL may significantly improve robustness against attacks and reduce the influence of indoor environments while maintaining sufficient accuracy levels.

In this paper, a high accuracy stereo reconstruction method for surgery instruments positioning is proposed. Usually, the problem of surgical instruments reconstruction is considered as a basic task in computer vision to estimate the 3-D position of each marker on a surgery instrument from three pairs of image points. However, the existing methods considered the 3-D reconstruction of the points separately thus ignore the structure information. Meanwhile, the errors from light variation, imaging noise and quantization still affect the reconstruction accuracy. This paper proposes a method which takes the structure information of surgical instruments as constraints, and reconstructs the whole markers on one surgical instrument together. Firstly, we calibrate the instruments before navigation to get the structure parameters. The structure parameters consist of markers' number, distances between each markers and a linearity sign of each instrument. Then, the structure constraints are added to stereo reconstruction. Finally, weighted filter is used to reduce the jitter. Experiments conducted on surgery navigation system showed that our method not only improve accuracy effectively but also reduce the jitter of surgical instrument greatly.
This paper presents an experimental study on vibration characteristics of an automotive roof with damping material. The goal of the study is to extract modal parameters(natural frequency, loss factor, and mode shape) of automotive roof with damping materials treatment. To determine the effective positions and thickness of the damping material on a roof, vibration tests have been carried out for six cases; an aluminum plate with damping material on maximum strain energy positions, and an aluminum plate with damping material on nodal lines. From the result of aluminum plate, it is found that the damping material should be placed on the location with maximum strain energy part. For the automotive roof, patches of constrained damping material, which has two different density, have been attached to the positions of the maximum strain energy with four kinds of thicknesses. This paper shows that the proper positioning of the damping material is very important and the effective thickness is about twice that of the roof panel.
