  • The kinetic studies on the reactions of O,O-diethyl Z-S-aryl phosphorothioates with X-pyridines have been carried out in dimethyl sulfoxide. The free energy correlations with X in the nucleophiles are biphasic concave upwards with a break point at X = H, while those for substituent Z variations in the leaving groups are linear. The negative sign of ${\rho}_{XZ}$ implies that the reaction proceeds through a concerted mechanism for both the strongly and weakly basic pyridines. The biphasic concave upward free energy relationships with X are rationalized by a change in the nucleophilic attacking direction from frontside with the strongly basic pyridines to backside with the weakly basic pyridines.

  • In this paper, the solution of two dimensional deflection of circular wavy elastica beam was obtained for one end clamped boundary and concentrated load condition. The beam was regarded as a linear elastic material. Wavy shape was described as a combination of half-circular arc smoothly connected each other with constant curvature of all the same magnitude and alternative sign. Also load direction was taken into account. As a result, the solution was expressed in terms of a series of integral equations. While we found the exact solutions and expressed them in terms of elliptic integrals, the recursive ignition formulae about the displacement and arc length at each segment of circular section were obtained. Algorithm of determining unknown parameters was established and the profile curve of deflected beam was shown compared with initial shape.

The fiber was regarded as a linear elastic material. Wavy shape was described as a combination of half-circular arc smoothly connected each other with constant curvature of all the same magnitude and alternative sign. These elliptic integrals had two different transformed parameters involved with load value and initial radius of curvature. While we found the exact solutions and expressed them in terms of elliptic integrals, the recursive ignition formulae about the displacement and arc length at each segment of circular section were obtained. Algorithm of determining unknown parameters was established and the profile curve of deflected beam was shown in comparison with initial shape.

  • In this paper, a hypothesis in order that the impulse response of a stable linear system does not change sign is suggested. For fixed zeros of the systems, the problem of synthesizing such a system is reduced to the problem of finding a proper denominator polynomial so that the step response of the overall system will not overshoot. The hypothesis is associated with the generalized time constant by Kim[5]. Under the hypothesis, we propose several methods that allow to compose a continuous time LTI systems achieving non-negative impulse response.

  • In this paper an active random noise control using adaptive learning rate neural networks is presented. The adaptive learning rate strategy increases the learning rate by a small constant if the current partial derivative of the objective function with respect to the weight and the exponential average of the previous derivatives have the same sign, otherwise the learning rate is decreased by a proportion of its value. The use of an adaptive learning rate attempts to keep the learning step size as large as possible without leading to oscillation. It is expected that a cost function minimize rapidly and training time is decreased. Numerical simulations and experiments of active random noise control with the transfer function of the error path will be performed, to validate the convergence properties of the adaptive learning rate Neural Networks. Control results show that adaptive learning rate Neural Networks control structure can outperform linear controllers and conventional neural network controller for the active random noise control.

  • In this study a measurement equipment was designed and made for the nonlinear dielectric constants in dielectrics. The determining method of the nonlinear dielectric constants also was proposed. The measurement equipment was consisted of the wave generation part, the high voltage amplifier part, the measurement part and the data acquisition part. In this equipment the measurement control and the data processing could be conducted by computer. In order to determine the nonlinear dielectric constants alternating sign-wave electric fields are applied to dielectrics with different magnitude and the waves of the electric fields and the response from dielectrics are stored in computer memories. The harmonics of dielectric displacement are obtained by the Fourier transformation of these waves. The nonlinear dielectric constants are determined at the relatively low-field region. The experiment for PZT ceramic samples was done by the equipment and the determining method and as the result meaningful data were obtained.

  • Variable structure control (VSC) systems control the state vectors using sliding regime (SR) constructed switching logic, switching plane and control law. Saturation function switching logic is used to improve the drawback which occurs in traditional sign function switching logic. Switching plane with time-varying parameter is proposed to improve the drawback which occurs in switching plane with constant parameter and it is suggested the control law which has time-varying parameter. The stability of VSC system controlled by proposed time-varying SR is discussed, and the good control behavior was shown through computer simulation using proposed SR.

  • Computational procedures associated with finite element nonlinear analysis of plane frame structures were examined and new solution schemes were suggested. Element stiffness matrix was derived from the principle of virtual displacements. Geometric and material nonlinearities were considered in the formulation. Solution method was based upon the constant displacement length method in conjunction with the Newton-Raphson method. New solution schemes were introduced in determining the initial load increment and the sign of load increments and predicting the length of displacement increment to improve user convenience, efficiency and stability. Numerical experiments were performed for several typical problems and suggested schemes were found efficient and convenient for analyzing nonlinear frame structures.

  • This paper considers a hybrid PWM(pulse width modulation) method which can be used in the brushless DC motor controller. Due to many disadvantages of bipolar PWM method, unipolar PWM method is mostly used in industrial field. In constant speed control application, the unipolar PWM method shows the good performance of speed control. But in the wide range of speed control application, it shows poor performance especially when deceleration is needed. So we propose the hybrid PWM method that utilizes both of bipolar and unipolar PWM methods according to the sign of the speed controller output. Simulation and experimental result show that the proposed method improves speed control performance of the brushless DC motor which is applied to the industrial sewing machines.

  • Kinetic studies of the reaction of O-methyl-S-phenylthiocarbonates with benzylamines in methanol at 45.0 ℃ have been carried out. The reaction proceeds by a stepwise mechanism in which the rate-determining step is the breakdown of the zwitterionic tetrahedral intermediate, $T^{\pm}$, with a hydrogen-bonded four-center type transition state (TS). These mechanistic conclusions are drawn based on (ⅰ) the large magnitude of ${\rho}_X\;and\;{\rho}_Z$, (ⅱ) the normal kinetic isotope effects $(k_H/k_D\;>\;1.0)$ involving deuterated benzylamine nucleophiles, (ⅲ) the positive sign of ${\rho}_{XZ}$ and the larger magnitude of ${\rho}_{XZ}$ than that for normal $S_N2$ processes, and lastly (ⅳ) adherence to the reactivity-selectivity principle (RSP) in all cases.
