The heat transfer enhancement of heat sink with mist flow is studied numerically by solving the conservation equations for mass, momentum and energy in the continuous and dispersed phases. A Lagrangian method is used for tracing dispersed water droplets in the heat sink and an Eulerian species transport model for air and steam mixture. The continuous and dispersed phases are interacted with the drag and evaporation source terms. The computed results show that addition of evaporating mist droplets enhances the cooling performance of heat sink significantly.
A numerical study on the use of the momentum interpolation mettled for flows with a large body force is presented. The inherent problems of the momentum interpolation method are discussed first. Numerical experiments are performed for a typical flow involving a large body force. The tact that the momentum interpolation method may result in physically unrealistic solutions is demonstrated. Numerical experiments changing the numerical grid have shown that a simple way of removing the physically unrealistic solution is a proper grid refinement where there is a large pressure gradient. An effective way of specifying the pressure and pressure correction at the boundary by a local mass conservation near the boundary is proposed, and it is shown that this method can effectively remove the inherent problem of the specification of pressure and pressure correction at the boundary when one uses the momentum interpolation method.

An assessment of two-equation turbulence models, the low Reynolds k-${\varepsilon}$ and k-${\omega}$ SST models, with the compressibility corrections proposed by Sarkar and Wilcox, has been performed. The compressibility models are evaluated by investigating transonic or supersonic flows, including the arc-bump, transonic diffuser, supersonic jet impingement, and unsteady supersonic diffuser. A unified implicit finite volume scheme, consisting of mass, momentum, and energy conservation equations, is used, and the results are compared with experimental data. The model accuracy is found to depend strongly on the flow separation behavior. An MPI (Message Passing Interface) parallel computing scheme is implemented.
A fully coupled fluid flow, heat, and solute transport model was developed to investigate turbulent flow, solidification, and macrosegregation in a continuous casting process of steel slab with EMBR. Transport equations of mass, momentum, energy, and species for a binary iron-carbon alloy system were solved using a continuum model. The electromagnetic field was described by the Maxwell equations. A finite-volume method was employed to solve the conservation equations associated with appropriate boundary conditions. The effects of intensity of magnetic field and carbon segregation were investigated. The electromagnetic field reduces the velocity of molten flow in the mold and an increase in the percentage of C in steel results in a decrease of carbon segregation ratio.
Gravitational waves from the pulsar glitch can be detected by next generation gravitational wave observatories. We investigate characteristics of the modes that can emit the gravitational waves excited by three different types of perturbations satisfying conservation of total rest mass and angular momentum. These perturbations mimic the pulsar glitch theories i.e., change of moment of inertia due to the star quakes or angular momentum transfer by vortex unpinning at crust-core interface. We carry out numerical hydrodynamic simulations using the pseudo-Newtonian method which makes weak field approximation for the dynamics, but taking all forms of energies into account to compute the Newtonian potential. Unlike other works, we found that the first and second strongest modes that give gravitational waves are $^2p_1$ and $H_1$ rather than$^2f$. We also found that vortex unpinning model excites the inertial mode in quadrupole moment quite effectively. The inertial mode may evolve into the non-axisymmetric r-mode.
The prediction of hydrate pellet decomposition characteristics is required to design the regasification process of GTS (gas to solid) technology, which is considered as an economic alternative for LNG technology to transport natural gas produced from small and stranded gas wells. Mathematical model based on the conservation principles, the phase equilibrium relation, equation of gas state and phase change kinetics was set up and numerical solution procedure employing volume averaged fixed grid formulation and extended enthalpy method are implemented. Initially, porous methane hydrate pellet is at uniform temperature and pressure within hydrate stable region. The pressure starts to decrease with a fixed rate down to the final pressure and is kept constant afterwards while the bounding surface of pellet is heated by convection. The predicted convective heat and mass transfer accompanied by the decomposed gas flow through hydrate/ice solid matrix is reported focused on the comparison of spherical and cylindrical pellets having the same effective radius.

The vaporization characteristics of a liquid heptane droplet in a supercritical nitrogen flow are numerically studied. The transient conservation equations of mass, momentum, energy, and species are expressed in an axisymmetric coordinate system. The governing equations are solved time marching method with preconditioning scheme. The modified Soave-Redlich-Kwong equation of state is employed for taking account of real gas effects such as thermodynamic non-ideality and transport anomaly. Changing the convective velocity and ambient pressure, several parametric studies are conducted. The numerical results show that the two parameters, Reynolds number and dimensionless combined parameter(${\mu}$s/${\mu}$d)(equation omitted), have influence on supercritical droplet vaporization.

The bubble dynamics and heat transfer associated with nucleate boiling in parallel microchannels is studied numerically by solving the equations governing conservation of mass, momentum and energy in the liquid and vapor phases. The liquid-vapor interface is tracked by a level set method which is modified to include the effects of phase change at the interface and contact angle at the wall. Also, the reversible flow observed during flow boiling in parallel microchannels has been investigated. Based on the numerical results, the effects of contact angle, wall superheat and the number of channels on the bubble growth and reversible flow are quantified.

Exergetic and thermoeconomic analyses were performed fer a 137-MW steam power plant. In these analyses, mass and energy conservation laws were applied to each component of the system. Quantitative balance of the exergy and exergetic cost for each component, and for the whole system was carefully considered. The exergo-economic model, which represented the productive structure of the system was used to visualize the cost formation process and the productive interaction between components. The computer program developed in this study can determine production costs of power plants, such as gas-and steam-turbines plants and gas-turbine cogeneration plants. The program can also be used to study plant characteristics, namely, thermodynamic performance and sensitivity to changes in process and/or component design variables.
The results of simulation of direct methane fuel cell fed with liquid-state methanol feed are shown. This numerical process is based on mass and current conservation equations. The results showed that over low current density $(<200mA/cm^2)$ IV polarization curve was well-presented compared to experimental result. Methanol fed from anodic side moved into cathodic side through electrolyte membrane and the pressure near cathode electrode increased according to amount of methanol crossover and production of water. Besides change of overpotential on each el electrode were checked by x-axis.
