Recently, the coastal transportation of the Yellow Sea is increasing due to the vastly expanding trade among countries surrounding the Yellow Sea. As the 50 percentages of the total domestic container transportation are concentrated on the National Capital region, the traffic congestion in the key land transportation routes brings about the weakening of the global competitiveness. In this study, the efficient barge systems for sea-river shipping of the Han-river, the Kyongin canal and coastal ways of the Yellow Sea are considered based on the criterion of canal and cargo volumes. To find the efficient barge system of the model barge in the Kyongin canal. the transport efficiency factor and transport ability of each barge system with the variation of sailing speed and length are calculated.
Random Early Detection (RED) [1] is an active queue management scheme which has been deployed extensively to reduce packet loss during congestion. Although RED can improve loss rates, its performance depends severely on the tuning of its operating parameters. The idea of adaptively varying RED parameters to suit the network conditions has been investigated in [2], where the maximum packet dropping probability $max_p$ has been varied. This paper focuses on adaptively varying the queue weight $\omega_q$ in conjunction with $max_p$ to improve the performance. We propose two algorithms viz., $\omega_q$-thresh and $\omega_q$-ewma to adaptively vary $\omega_q$. The performance is measured in terms of the packet loss percentage, link utilization and stability of the instantaneous queue length. We demonstrate that varying $\omega_q$ and $max_p$ together results in an overall improvement in loss percentage and queue stability, while maintaining the same link utilization. We also show that $max_p$ has a greater influence on loss percentage and queue stability as compared to $\omega_q$, and that varying $\omega_q$ has a positive influence on link utilization.

In this paper, we study the problem of network utility maximization in a CSMA based multi-hop wireless network. Existing work in this aspect typically adopted continuous time Markov model for performance modelling, which fails to consider the channel conflict impact in actual CSMA networks. To maximize the utility of a CSMA based wireless network with channel conflict, in this paper, we first model its weighted network capacity (i.e., network capacity weighted by link queue length) and then propose a distributed link scheduling algorithm, called CSMA based Maximal-Weight Scheduling (C-MWS), to maximize the weighted network capacity. We derive the upper and lower bounds of network utility based on C-MWS. The derived bounds can help us to tune the C-MWS parameters for C-MWS to work in a distributed wireless network. Simulation results show that the joint optimization based on C-MWS can achieve near-optimal network utility when appropriate algorithm parameters are chosen and also show that the derived utility upper bound is very tight.

In this paper, we propose a priority control algorithm using hop count, called HC-PC(Priority Control Algorithm using Hop-Count) for steaming mode CLS, in wide area ATM networks. In our HC-PC algorithm, hop count of packet is increased by one as traverse CLS hop and is used as loss priority when a CLS buffer is congested. That guards packets with higher priority form congestion. The average packet loss probabilities are evaluated via mathematical analysis for HC-PC algorithm case and no priority control case. The simulationresults indicate that our algorithm may offer better performance in terms of loss fairness for pathe length and yield high utilization of newtork resource.

The current traffic signal control systems are operated depending on the pre-planned control scheme or the selected control scheme according to a period of time. The problem with these types of traffic control systems is that they can not cope with variant traffic flows appropriately. Such a problem can be difficult to solve by using binary logic. Therefore, in this 0paper, we propose a traffic signal control system which can deal wit various traffic flows quickly and effectively. The proposed controller is operated under uncertainty and in a fuzzy environment. It show the congestion of road traffic by using fuzzy logic, and it determines the length of green signal by means of a fuzzy inference engine. It modeled using petri-net to verify its validation.

Active queue management (AQM) is a leading congestion control system, which can keep smaller queuing delay, less packet loss with better network utilization and throughput by intentionally dropping the packets at the intermediate hubs in TCP/IP (transmission control protocol/Internet protocol) networks. To accelerate the responsiveness of AQM framework, proportional-integral-differential (PID) controllers are utilized. In spite of its simplicity, it can effectively take care of a range of complex problems; however it is a lot complicated to track down optimal PID parameters with conventional procedures. A few new strategies have been grown as of late to adjust the PID controller parameters. Therefore, in this paper, we have developed a Squirrel search based PID controller to dynamically find its controller gain parameters for AQM. The controller gain parameters are decided based on minimizing the integrated-absolute error (IAE) in order to ensure less packet loss, high link utilization and a stable queue length in favor of TCP networks.
The interchanges of urban freeways have many problems with traffic operation due to high off-ramp flows and frequent congestion at adjacent intersections. The flow exiting from off-ramps is affected by the operational status and traffic volume conditions of the nearest signalized intersection. As a result, off-ramp flow cannot exit and the queue backs up the freeway mainline when queues from the signalized intersection form up to the junction of the off-ramp and street. The spacing between an off-ramp and an adjacent intersection is likely to determine the traffic conditions at the adjacent intersection. However, the current design guidelines do not consider such a factor. This study is to develop a model calculating the spacing between off-ramps and adjacent intersections considering the signal, traffic, and road conditions. The variables affecting the model in this study are effective green time (g/C), volume-capacity ratio (v/c), the number of lanes, and off-ramp volume. Various scenarios are designed to represent the effects of the variables and the road networks are constructed using VISSIM, which is a common traffic micro-simulation software package. The queue length is derived from VISSIM and this length is considered as the recommended spacing between the off-ramp and the adjacent intersection. Through the simulation analysis, regression models are developed to calculate the queue length reflecting the various conditions such as signals, traffic, and road configurations. The developed model can be used to create road design guidelines to determine the location of off-ramps in the planning stage.
In mobile ad hoc networks, most of on demand routing protocols such as DSR and AODV do not deal with traffic load during the route discovery procedure. To solve the congestion and achieve load balancing, many protocols have been proposed. However, the existing load balancing schemes has only considered avoiding the congested route in the route discovery procedure or finding an alternative route path during a communication session. To mitigate this problem, we have proposed a new scheme which considers the packet bursting mechanism in congested nodes. The proposed packet bursting scheme, which is originally introduced in IEEE 802.11e QoS specification, is to transmit multiple packets right after channel acquisition. Thus, congested nodes can forward buffered packets promptly and minimize bottleneck situation. Each node begins to transmit packets in normal mode whenever its congested status is dissolved. We also propose two threshold values to define exact overloaded status adaptively; one is interface queue length and the other is buffer occupancy time. Through an experimental simulation study, we have compared and contrasted our protocol with normal on demand routing protocols and showed that the proposed scheme is more efficient and effective especially when network traffic is heavily loaded.

Generally, significant amount of reinforcements are used in nuclear power plant structures and it may cause several potential problems during the construction. In particular, it is more difficult to pour concrete into structural member joint area than other areas because of the significant congestion of the joint area due to a lot of hooked bars, embedded materials, and other reinforcements. The purpose of this study is to solve these problems due to the reinforcement congestion by using the high-strength(ASTM A615 Gr.80) headed deformed bars of large-sized diameter(43 mm & 57 mm) in nuclear power plant structures as a alternative of standard hooked bars. In order to use headed deformed bars effectively, It is necessary to find the method how to relax limits on their use while maintaining or improving the anchorage capacity. Therefore, this study will analyze the results of tests planned to evaluate the influence of the restricted variables, such as bar size, yield strength, clear cover thickness.
Because of most notably the increase in vehicular traffic in Korea, as measured by highway transport usage, relief is being sought by expanding the construction of highways after 1970s'. These highways have opened up over 70 % of the mountainous areas in Korea's country side which includes the construction of tunnels. Currently there are 607 tunnels installed that are being maintained and by 2015, under the next medium-term plan, Korea will build an additional 440 tunnels. In addition, the use of 1,000m double-pole tunnels is expected to increase significantly in 256 locations. There is no doubt that these tunnels will relieve traffic congestion and aid improved communications, but halfclosed underground highway tunnels in particular are required to reduce tunnel fires caused by poor vehicle maintenance, and other factors such as speeding motorists that increase the number of vehicular accidents. Double-pole tunnels in 1,000m length over require vehicle drivers to be more cautious in terms of the continuous speed limit, judged by how devastating most of car-crash fires within these tunnels can be. In order to prevent these disasters, a full-length tunnel speed enforcement system should be considered mandatorily in legal clauses.
