Super-continuum generation 현상을 이용한 Solid-immersion lens 기반 공초점 현미경 (Solid-immersion lens based confocal microscopy using super-continuum generation effect)

  • In this paper, we demonstrate solid-immersion lens based confocal microscopy using super-continuum generation effect. Using super-continuum generation effect, we could diversify the excitation wavelength of confocal microscopy. Further, high refractive index of solid-immersion lens would increase the resolution of confocal microscopy. As a result, by applying the super-continuum generation effect and solid-immersion lens to confocal microscopy, some problems of confocal fluorescent microscopy, the excitation wavelength and the resolution, could be overcome. To verify it, we made home-built solid-immersion lens based confocal microscopy using super-continuum generation effect, and evaluate the performance of the system.

공초점 주사현미경을 통한 미세 유로에서의 유동 가시화 (Flow Visualization in Microchannel Using Confocal Scanning Microscope)

  • This paper presents the visualization method in which 3-dimensional(3D) microchannel flow can be detected using a confocal scanning microscope. By soft-lithography, we fabricated various Bio-MEMS(Micro Electro-Mechanical System) devices such as a disposable microchip for a flow cytometer and a micro-mixer, which have 3D structures. Injecting aqueous fluorescent solution in the microfluidic devices, we measured the flow in a steady state by the confocal scanning microscope. At first, we explain the principle of the confocal scanning microscope. And then we show the results from 3D visualization of microscopic flow structures using the confocal scanning microscope.

  • In modem industry, the accuracy and the surface-finish requirements for machined parts have been becoming ever more stringent. Optical method in measurements is playing an important role in vibration measurement, crack and defect detection and surface topography with the advent of opto-mechatronics. In this study, the principle of the general confocal microscope is introduced for surface measurement, and the advanced confocal microscope that has better measuring speed than the traditional confocal microscope is developed. A study on improving the resolution of the advanced confocal microscope is followed. Finally, Software for data acquisition and analysis of various parameters in surface geometrical features has been developed.

Numerical solution for multiple confocal elliptic dissimilar cylinders

  • This paper provides a numerical solution for multiple confocal elliptic dissimilar cylinders. In the problem, the inner elliptic notch is under the traction free condition. The medium is composed of many confocal elliptic dissimilar cylinders. The transfer matrix method is used to study the continuity condition for the stress and displacement along the interfaces. Two cases, or the infinite matrix case and the finite matrix case, are studied in this paper. In the former case, the remote tension is applied in y- direction. In the latter case, the normal loading is applied along the exterior elliptic contour. For two cases, several numerical results are provided.

  • In fluorescence mode confocal scanning microscope, level of detected signal is very low. In object scanning type confocal scanning microscope, the additional optical system with objective lens and plane mirror was proposed to increase signal intensity, but there was none for beam scanning type confocal scanning microscope. We propose reflecting optical systems which improve signal intensity in beam scanning type confocal scanning microscope. We choose one of the proposed optical systems and design the optical system, i.e., select optical components and assign distances between the selected components. To design the optical system, we use finite ray tracing method and make cost function to be minimized.

  • The traditional surface measuring method using confocal principle requires much time to measure an object surface since it is a scanning tool. In this paper, the upgraded confocal microscope is introduced. It is also a scanning tool but it requires 2D-scanning while the traditional one requires 3D-scanning. It means the time for measuring is considerably reduced. In addition, the measuring system is configured to increase the efficiency of beam. He-Ne laser whose frequency is 632.8nm is used for the laser source. An example of measuring result through the upgraded confocal microscope is showed.

  • 두 가지의 다른 방법으로 광섬유를 직접 구동하여 공초점 현미경을 제작하였다. 압전소자와 튜닝 포크는 광섬유를 진동시키는데 사용하였다. 6 frame의 640$\times$480 픽셀 영상을 압전소자 진동으로 1초 동안 얻었고, 1 frame의 640$\times$480 픽셀 영상을 튜닝 포크 진동으로 1초 동안 얻었다 이러한 광섬유의 진동은 confocal 영상에 일그러짐을 주지 않았다.

  • We demonstrate the operation of an apparatus that we call the laser scanning confocal microscopy. It is valuable tool of the investigations for imaging process. We measured the thin metal structure through the SCM manufacture. Confocal microscopy offers several advantages including shallow depth of field, elimination of out-of-focus glare, and the ability to collect serial optical sections from thick specimens than conventional optical microscope. This research is manufactured of scanning confocal microscopy and after measured of metal materials structure.

  • Colloidal systems or colloids consist of microparticles or nanoparticles (solute) uniformly suspended in a liquid (solvent), also called colloidal suspensions. They can mimic and exhibit microscopic or atomic aspects of molecular and atomic systems. They have been increasingly studied because of their similarity with atomic systems. They can be microscopically observed by optical microscopes because they are large enough in size and slow in motion to be monitored; microscopic methods are very useful and powerful in research on colloidal systems. Recently, confocal laser microscopy has been known as a powerful tool to obtain information of real-space and real-time behaviors of colloidal suspensions. In particular, it is possible to exactly track individual colloids in three dimensions with confocal microscopy. In this article, we briefly discuss the usefulness of confocal microscopy in colloidal systems that are currently used as model systems to resolve important questions in materials science.

마이크로 홀로그래픽 저장장치의 공초점 필터의 효과 (Effects of Confocal Filter for Reading of Micro Holographic Data Storage)

  • In this paper, we investigate the confocal filter for high quality reading signal of micro holographic data storage system. The confocal filter is used to remove crosstalk effects of adjacent recording-layer by multi-layer multiplexing method. To remove a noise of reading signal, we consider size and geometrical structure of filter. From the obtained results, we present optical characteristics including Fresnel and Fraunhofer diffraction effects. Finally, we propose the optimal confocal filter for good image quality and increased reflection power.
