  • The crack-tip stress fields and fracture mechanics assessment parameters for a surface crack, such as the elastic stress intensity factor or the elastic-plastic J-integral, can be affected significantly by the adjacent cracks. Such a crack interaction effect due to multiple cracks can alter the fracture mechanics assessment parameters significantly. There are many factors to be considered, for instance the relative distance between adjacent cracks, the crack shape, and the loading condition, to quantify the crack interaction effect on the fracture mechanics assessment parameters. Thus, the current assessment codes on crack interaction effects (crack combination rules), including ASME Sec. XI, BS7910, British Energy R6 and API 579-1/ASME FFS-1, provide different rules for combining multiple surface cracks into a single surface crack. The present paper investigates crack interaction effects by evaluating the elastic stress intensity factor and the elastic-plastic J-integral of adjacent in-plane surface cracks in a plate through detailed 3-dimensional elastic and elastic-plastic finite element analyses. The effects on the fracture mechanics assessment parameters of the geometric parameters, the relative distance between two cracks, and the crack shape are investigated systematically. As for the loading condition, an axial tension is considered. Based on the finite element results, the acceptability of the crack combination rules provided in the existing guidance was investigated, and the relevant recommendations on a crack interaction for in-plane surface cracks are discussed. The present results can be used to develop more concrete guidance on crack interaction effects for crack shape characterization to evaluate the integrity of defective components.

  • The autopilot system targets decreasing labor, working environment, service safety security and elevation of service efficiency. Ultimate purpose is minimizing number of crew for guarantee economical efficiency of shipping service. Recently, being achieving research about Course Keeping Control, Track Keeping Control, Roll-Rudder Stabilization, Dynamic ship Positioning and Automatic Mooring Control etc. which compensate nonlinear characteristic using optimizing control technique. And application research is progressing using real ship on actual field. Relation of Rudder angle which adjusted by Steering Machine and ship-heading angle are non-linear. And, Load Condition of ship acts as non-linear element that influence to Parameter of ship. Also, because the speed of a current and direction of waves, velocity and quantity of wind etc. that id disturbance act in non-linear form, become factor who make service of shipping painfully. Therefore, service system of shipping requires robust control algorithm that can overcome nonlinearity. In this paper, Using GA algorithm, design autopilot system of ship that could overcome the non-linear factor of ship and disturbance and examined result through simulation.

  • We present a three-dimensional average flow model considering elastic deformation of pad asperities for chemical mechanical planarization. To consider the contact deformation of pad asperities in the calculation of the flow factor, three-dimensional contact analysis of a semi-infinite solid based on the use of influence functions is conducted from computer generated three dimensional roughness data. The average Reynolds equation and the boundary condition of both force and momentum balance are used to investigate the effect of pad roughness and external pressure conditions on film thickness and wafer position angle.

  • Dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB) was examined as a counter-ion in the separation of aromatic sulfonic acids on alkylmodified silica (ODS) column by reversed-phase ion-pair chromatography. The capacity factor of acids was investigated and separation was attempted. The capacity factor of samples was influenced by the several factors such as a concentration of counter-ion, concentration of methanol, kinds and concentration of electrolyte in mobile phase as well as kinds and position of functional group in samples. Some mixtures of samples were able to be separated under optimum condition.

  • To avoid influences caused by pose, illumination and facial expression variations, we propose a robust three-step algorithm based on ASM and POEM for facial landmark localization. Firstly, Model Selection Factor is utilized to achieve a pose-free initialized shape. Then, we use the global shape model of ASM to describe the whole face and the texture model POEM to adjust the position of each landmark. Thirdly, a second localization is presented to discriminatively refine the subtle shape variation for some organs and contours. Experiments are conducted in four main face datasets, and the results demonstrate that the proposed method accurately localizes facial landmarks and outperforms other state-of-the-art methods.

  • A free space transmission method using standard gain horn antennas in the frequency range from 9.0 to 10.5GHz is applied to determine the dielectric properties of grain such as rough rice ,brown rice and barley. The dielectric constant and loss factor, which depend on the moisture content of the wetted grain are obtained from the measured attenuation and phase shift by vector network analyzer. The moisture content of grain varied from 11 to 25% based on this wetted condition. The measured values of dielectric constants as a function of moisture density are compared with values of those obtained using he predicted model for estimating dielectric constants of grain. The effect of density fluctuation, high is an important parameter governing the dielectric properties of grain, on the dielectric constant and loss factor is presented. A new density-independent model in terms of measured attenuation an moisture density is proposed of reducing the effects of density fluctuation on the moisture content measurement.

  • The reliability of multilayer ceramic capacitor with active thin dielectric layer was investigated by highly accelerated life test at various stress condition. The distribution of multilayer ceramic capacitor failure times is plotted as a function of time from Weibull distribution function. According to the test result, voltage acceleration factor is obtained from 2.24 to 2.96. The acceleration by temperature is much higher than other values of active thick dielectric layer. It is clear that median time to failure is affected by the stress voltage for high volumetric efficiency ceramic capacitors with active thin dielectric layer. The degradation under stress of voltage involves electromigration and accumulation of oxygen vacancy at Ni electrode interface of cathode.

  • In this paper, Computer Aided Optimum Design Technique for Three-Phase Induction Motors is proposed. In the technique, reference magnetic flux, specific electric loading factor, specific magnetic loading factor(magnetic flux density) and current density are adopted as design parameters, and minimum total cost including material cost and loss power cost is adopted as a objective function which has to satisfy output condition too. As a result of application to the existing motor, it is proved that this technique is very effective in view of gradually increasing energy costs.

  • In this study, the uplift capacity of anchor plates embedded in sand was investigated by conducting model tests. Square shaped anchors were used in the tests and parameters such as relative density of sand, embedment ratio (H/B), spacing ratio between anchors (S/B) and anchor configuration affecting the uplift capacity were investigated. Breakout factor and group efficiency which are dimensionless parameters were used to show the results. A series of finite element analyses and analytical solutions were additionally performed to ascertain the validity of the findings from the laboratory model tests and to supplement the results of the model tests. It can be concluded that the embedment depth in dense sand soil condition is the most important parameter with respect to the other parameters as to influencing the uplift capacity of group anchors.

  • Flame characteristics and combustion stability of a swirl coaxial injector are studied experimentally. Characteristics of flame and combustion instability are analyzed with the parameter of MFR (momentum flux ratio) using hexane instead of kerosene. Flame patterns of blue and yellow are changed with variable MFR. Combustion instabilities are measured and analyzed by adopting a model chamber. Combustion instability mapping is made by evaluating damping factor at the 2 L (second longitudinal) mode with variable MFR in 63 cases for operating condition.
