  • The quality of the surface layer in concrete structures plays an important role in the durability of the concrete. The concrete factory products are made as they improve the appearance of the surface and compressive strength in need. A common criterion to judge the quality of concrete products frequently seen in our daily life appears to be "beauty" in terms of consistent shaping. However, as for most concrete curb in such areas where a large amount of anti-freezing agents(NaCl) and ice and snow melting agents(CaCl2) are spread over roads to ensure road safety during the winter season, since deterioration advances from the surface, scaling is seen on the surface concrete due to deterioration which combined freezing damage and salt damage. Especially, In cold northern districts, the spreading amount of deicing salts increases by regulation of studded tire use, and the scaling of the concrete products, the various parts of concrete structures for roads is increasing in recent years. In this study, L-shape concrete curb were targeted, the permeable form method with the commercial permeable sheet was applied to it and the improvements of the quality were examined. By the permeable form method, surface layers got strengthened, which prevented permeation of the deterioration factor from the outside, and the scaling resistance of the upper surface where the permeable sheet was applied improved exceedingly. It will be expected by applying the permeable form method to various concrete products that frost resistance improves and scaling damage decreases.

  • In order to study the effect of rubber particle size and admixture on the frost resistance of self-compacting concrete, three self-compacting concrete specimens with equal volume replacement of fine aggregate by rubber particles of different particle sizes were prepared, while conventional self-compacting concrete was made as a comparison specimen. The degradation law of rubber aggregate self-compacted concrete under freeze-thaw cycles was investigated by fast-freezing method test. The results show that the rubber aggregate has some influence on the mechanical properties and freeze-thaw durability of the self-compacting concrete. With the increase of rubber aggregate, the compressive strength of self-compacting concrete gradually decreases, and the smaller the rubber aggregate particle size is, the smaller the effect on the compressive strength of the matrix; rubber aggregate can improve the frost resistance of self-compacting concrete, and the smaller the rubber particle size is, the more obvious the effect on the improvement of the frost resistance of the matrix under the same dosage. Through the research of this paper, it is recommended to use 60~80 purpose rubber aggregate and the substitution rate of 10% is chosen as the best effect.

  • This study was performed to verify the impact resistance of concrete using coal ash and fiber new materials. As the results of study, the impact resistance of concrete decreased as the mixing ratio of coal ash increased. When the fiber new materials(GF, HPSF) were mixed to the concrete, its resistance was increased.

  • In concrete incorporating high volume ground granulated blast-furnace slag that has frozen at early age, to evaluated the results of resistance to freezing and thawing is very difficult because the hydration of the concrete increases over the duration of rapid freezing and thawing test. Hence, the dynamic modulus of elasticity of specimens after freezing and thawing will be favorable results unless the hydration effect is taken into consideration. In this study, a method of evaluating to the resistance to freezing and thawing of concrete subjected freezing at early age, in which the effect of hydration is modified for its increase during rapid freezing and thawing test, is investigated.

  • Currently, there are no specific repair methods for RC structures damaged by fire, and repair methods are applied when durability deteriorates due to aging. In addition, a number of recent studies have been reported that have conducted fire resistance assessment of the repair materials themselves, assuming exposure to high-temperature environments such as fires. However, researches that evaluate the fire resistance performance of the repair materials by applying existing repair materials to the actual fire damaged reinforced concrete structures are very rare. Therefore, in this study, a number of existing repair materials were applied to fire-damaged concrete column to compare and evaluate the fire resistance performance with the original cover concrete.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the chlorine ion penetration resistance, chemical resistance and freezing and thawing resistance used ordinary portland cement, crushed coarse aggregate, crushed sand, river sand, fly ash, limestone powder, blast furance slag powder and superplasticizer to find optimum mix design of low carbon green concrete for structures. The performance of low carbon green concrete used fly ash, limestone powder and blast furnace slag powder were remarkably improved. This fact is expected to have economical effects in the manufacture of low carbon green concrete for offshore structures. Accordingly, the fly ash, limestone powder and blast furnace slag powder can be used for offshore structure materials.

  • Concrete filled steel Tube(CFT) columns have great strength but also fire resistance performance due to the heat storage effect of concrete. In this research, we focus on the fire performance of CFT using 100 MPa concrete without fire protection. We use steel fiber and nylon fiber for fire resistance. We perform the fire test of CFT specimen with loading 200, 300 and 400 ton. To investigate the effect of loading to fire resistance, we compare the fire resistance time according to the loading.

  • Concrete structures are often subjected to long-term static and short-term dynamic loads. Due to a relatively low tensile strength and energy dissipating characteristics, the impact resistance of concrete is considered poor. This study investigates the feasibility of using polypropylene fibers to improve the impact resistance of reinforced concrete slabs. Fourteen polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete slabs were fabricated and tested using a drop weight test. The effects of slab thickness, fiber volume fractions, and impact energy on the dynamic behaviors were evaluated mainly in terms of impact resistant, crack patterns, and failure modes. The post impact induced strains versus time responses were obtained for all slabs. The results showed that adding the polypropylene fiber at a dosage of 0.90% by volume of concrete leads to significant improvement in the overall structural behavior of the slabs and their resistance to impact loading. Interestingly, the enhancement in the behavior of the slabs using a higher fiber dosage of 1.2% was not as good as achieved with 0.90%.

  • This study examined the field applicability of promoted high durability concrete (PHDC) developed for improving the chloride penetration resistance of coastal landfill underground structures. PHDC was found superior to conventional concrete containing slag in watertightness, crack resistance, and chloride penetration resistance required in coastal landfill underground structures. It was also more workable in field application, and easier to control the quality. This study investigated the strength development, crack resistance, and chloride penetration resistance of PHDC, and performed life evaluation of underground concrete structures of coastal landfill using the Life 365 program.
