Purpose of this paper is to determine the appropriate size of a center notched disk specimen for mode I fracture toughness $K_{IC}$. For this purpose, mode I test results with various sizes of center notched disk were compared with the RILEM three-point-bend test ones. Compressive strength of concrete used in this paper was 44.9 MPa. Diameters of 200, 300, 400 mm, thickness of 75, 100, 125 mm, and notch length ratios an of 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6 were used for the mode I disk test. Also, diameter of 300mm thickness of 100mm, and notch length ratios a/R of 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6 were used for the mixed mode disk test. Mixed mode stress intensity factors were investigated by changing notch angles for the disk specimen. Stress intensity factors of a center notched disk were calculated with the various methods for comparison. From the test results, mode I fracture toughness calculated from the disk specimen with diameter of 300 mm, thickness of Inn and notch length ratio a/R of 0.5 was very similar to the RILEM three-point-bend test ones. And it is verified that stress intensity factors for mixed mode can be easily calculated with the disk specimen.

This paper describes the use of the J-integral, a one parameter of the non-linear fracture mechanics(NLFM), as a means to measure toughness of steel fiber reinforced concrete. This parameter can be conveniently evaluated from experimentally determined load-deflection curves from flexural tests when a maximum-load failure criterion is employed. And, for high strength concrete which was reinforced steel fiber, with two different fiber length in the form of notched beams, were tested under 3-point bending, and $J_{IC}$, as well as the linear elastic fracture mechanics(LEFM) parameters $K_{IC}$ and $G_{IC}$ were evaluated. The results suggest that $J_{IC}$ is a promising fracture criterion for all of these. while $K_{IC}$(or $G_{IC}$) almost certainly are not. Also it was found that a fiber addition of less than 0.5% did not improve the fracture toughness of the high strength concrete. However, at more than 1.0% in fiber contents, $J_{IC}$ showed significant increases. reflecting the changed character of the concrete; $K_{IC}$ and $G_{IC}$ did not.

Various strength characteristics of recycled concretes containing different contents of recycled aggregates from waste concretes were compared with one another. Five different contents. 0%, 50%, 60%, 70% and 80%, of recycled concrete were used for this study. Study results showed that the compressive strength, flexural strength, tensile strength, elastic modulus and fracture toughness varied with contents of recycled aggregates. Target strength of the recycled concrete could be difined by nonparametric regression model as a funcion of content of recycled aggregate in the mix.

This study evaluated mechanical characteristics of polymer concrete produced using waste lime stone aggregate. Study results showed that compressive strength, flexural strength, split tensile strength and fracture toughness were very high. Therefore, it was concluded that waste lime stone could be used as aggregate in polymer concrete production through appropriate processing.

Effect of silica fume on fresh properties, compressive strength at 28 days and fracture behavior of fly ash concrete composite were studied in this paper. Test results indicated that the fluidity and flowability of fly ash concrete composites decreased and fly ash concrete composite are more cohesive and appear to be sticky with the addition of silica fume. Addition of silica fume was very effective in improving the compressive strength at 28 days of fly ash concrete composite, and the compressive strength of fly ash concrete composite has a trend of increase with the increase of silica fume content. Results also indicated that all the fracture parameters of effective crack length, fracture toughness, fracture energy, the critical crack opening displacement and the maximum crack opening displacement of fly ash concrete composite decreased with the addition of silica fume. When the content of silica fume increased from 3% to 12%, these fracture parameters decreased gradually with the increase of silica fume content. Furthermore, silica fume had great effect on the relational curves of the three-point bending beam specimen. As the silica fume content increased from 3% to 12%, the areas surrounded by the three relational curves and the axes were becoming smaller and smaller, which indicated that the capability of concrete composite containing fly ash to resist crack propagation was becoming weaker and weaker.
In this work, in order to inrprove the flexural strength of hardened portlarid cerncrit paste, mix ing water was reduced to water ccrnent ratio of 0.1 aid water soluble polymer such as hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose was adclelri to the paste to obtain a better dispersion. The paste was kneaded by the twin roll mill for cornpact and homogeneous mixing. The high strength mechanism of the hardened cement paste may be due to the removal of macropores larger than 100${\mu}m$, the reduction of capillary pores acting as the passage of crack propagation, the increase of Young's moculus with iticrease of unhytlratcci cenxxnt ard the incicasc of fracture toughnevs with the crack toughening mechanism (grain bridging, polymer fibril bridging and fritional inter-locking).
The two, NBD and SCB tests using gypsum circular discs each containing a single notch have been experimentally accomplished in a rock mechanics laboratory. These specimens have also been numerically modelled by a two-dimensional particle flow which is based on Discrete Element Method (DEM). Each testing specimen had a thickness of 5 cm with 10 cm in diameter. The specimens' lengths varied as 2, 3, and 4 cm; and the specimens' notch angles varied as 0°, 45° and 90°. Similar semi-circular gypsum specimens were also prepared each contained one edge notch with angles 0° or 45°. The uniaxial testing machine was used to perform the experimental tests for both NBD and SCB gypsum specimens. At the same time, the numerical simulation of these tests were performed by PFC2D. The experimental results showed that the failure mechanism of rocks is mainly affected by the orientations of joints with respect to the loading directions. The failure mechanism and fracturing patterns of the gypsum specimens are directly related to the final failure loading. It has been shown that the number of induced tensile cracks showing the specimens' tensile behavior, and increases by decreasing the length and angle of joints. It should be noted that the fracture toughness of rocks' specimens obtained by NBD tests was higher than that of the SCB tests. The fracture toughness of rocks usually increases with the increasing of joints' angles but increasing the joints' lengths do not change the fracture toughness. The numerical solutions and the experimental results for both NDB and SCB tests give nearly similar fracture patterns during the loading process.
This paper illustrates an experimental study on a self compacting polymer concrete called isobeton made of polyurethane foam and expanded clay. Several experiments were conducted to characterize the physic-mechanical properties of the considered material. Application of the Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics (LEFM) and determining the toughness of two isobetons based on Belgian and Italian clay, was conducted to determine the stress intensity factor $K_{IC}$ and the rate of releasing energy $G_{IC}$. The material considered was tested under static and dynamic loadings for two different samples with $10{\times}10{\times}40$ and $10{\times}15{\times}40cm$ dimensions. The result obtained by the application of the Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics (LEFM) shows that is optimistic and fulfilled the physic-mechanical requirement of the study.

The experimental study is conducted to analyze the characteristics of concrete included silica fume. The workability of concrete is controled by the ratio of mixture, such as superplastcizer, based on the constant rates of sand and cement. It is concluded that the strength and the frectu Toughness of concrete with silica fume are very improved.
The article describes a technique for the measurement of the level of complexity of fracture surfaces by the method of vertical sections, and a performed statistical analysis of the effect of profile lines on the fractographic and fractal parameters of fractures, i.e. the profile line development factor, $R_L$, and the fracture surface development factor, $R_S$, (as defined by the cycloid method), as well as the fractal dimension, $D_C$, (as determined by the chord method), and the fractal dimension, $D_{BC}$, (as determined by the box method). The above-mentioned parameters were determined for fracture surfaces of basalt and gravel concretes, respectively, which had previously been subjected to fracture toughness tests. The concretes were made from mixtures of a water/cement ratio ranging from 0.41 to 0.61 and with a variable fraction of coarse aggregate to fine aggregate, $C_{agg.}/F_{agg.}$, in the range from 1.5 to 3.5. Basalt and gravel aggregate of a fraction to maximum 16 mm were used to the tests. Based on the performed analysis it has been established that the necessary number of concrete fracture profile lines, which assures the reliability of obtained testing results, should amount to 12.
