Raffles City in Hangzhou China -The Engineering of a 'Vertical City' of Vibrant Waves-

  • This mixed-use Raffles City (RCH) development is located near the Qiantang River in Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province, located southwest of Shanghai, China. The project incorporates retail, offices, housing, and hotel facilities and marks the site of a cultural landscape within the Quianjiang New Town Area. The project is composed of two 250-meter-tall twisting towers with a form of vibrant waves, along with a commercial podium and three stories of basement car parking. It reaches a height of 60 stories, presenting views both to and from the Qiantang River and West Lake areas, with a total floor area of almost 400,000 square meters. A composite moment frame plus concrete core structural system was adopted for the tower structures. Concrete filled steel tubular (CFT) columns together with steel reinforced concrete (SRC) beams form the outer moment frame of the towers' structure. The internal slabs and floor beams are of reinforced concrete. This paper presents the engineering design and construction of this highly complex project. Through comprehensive discussion and careful elaboration, some conclusions are reached, which serve as a reference guide for the design and construction of similar free-form, hybrid, mix-use buildings.

  • 건설공사에서 공기는 매우 중요한 요소로 건설사업비에 미치는 영향이 크다. 선진국들은 공기단축을 통해 건설사업비를 줄이고 있다. 국내 건설업체들도 공기단축을 위해 많은 노력을 기울이고 있지만, 공기단축 방법을 체계적으로 제시하지 못하고 있다. 일반적으로 골조공사의 공기는 거푸집의 존치기간에 영향을 받기 때문에 공기단축을 위해서는 거푸집의 존치기간을 단축해야 한다. 본 연구에서는 거푸집의 존치기간을 단축하기 위해 다양한 조건들의 조강콘크리트를 만들어서 압축강도 실험을 실시하였다. 이를 통해 거푸집의 탈형 시기를 제안하였다. 연구결과에 의하면 골조공사에 조강콘크리트를 사용하면 거푸집의 존치기간을 상당히 단축할 수 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과들은 골조공사의 공기단축을 도모할 때 유용하게 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

  • This study investigates the temperature rise of reinforcement bars located in the middle of the form (for reinforcement concrete) during hot weather condition. The temperature was measured for three consecutive days before placing concrete. Test results showed that the temperature started to increase at 7:00 AM before sun rised, and peaked at around 2:00 PM. It was found that the thinner the diameter of a reinforcement bar, the higher is the speed of temperature rise and drop of the bar. The peak level of temperature for D13, D19, D25 and D32 was 54.4℃, 55.2℃, 56.4℃ and 60.2℃, respectively.

  • Traditional prediction models have been developed with a fixed equation from based on the limited number of data and parameters. If new data is quite different from original data, then the model should update not only its coefficients but also its equation form. However, artificial neural network dose not need a specific equation form. Instead of that, it needs enough input-output data. Also, it can continuously re-train the new data, so that it can conveniently adapt to new data. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to verify faith and application of prediction system of concrete strength using artificial neural networks through mock-up test.

  • Contemporary, architecture calls for a wide range of surface textures and treatments.   • This study investigates the effect of a curing condition on the temperature history and strength development of concrete under -10℃. Combination of various curing methods was applied, i.e. a conventional form was combined with compressed insulation, heat panel and heat cable. Results showed that the concrete cured by a single use of a conventional form resulted in serious deterioration of early strength development. However, other concretes cured by the proposed curing methods maintained the temperature of the concretes between 5 and 20℃, and thus resulted in no frost damage.

  • This study is to propose a curing method for a concrete wall structure under severe cold climate. The curing methods of using heated cable, heated panel and insulated form were applied. Results showed that the concrete cured by the heated cable resulted in the highest temperature history and the highest strength development at 28 days. Further, it is believed that the curing methods of the heated panel and insulated form are also recommendable for the resistance of the early frost damage on the concrete in practice.

  • 이순신 대교 변단면 주탑에 압송관을 이용한 슬립폼 공법을 적용하기 위해서는 공사기간 중 점차 추워지는 날씨와 압송거리 증가에 따른 콘크리트 초기응결특성 변화에 대한 고려를 하지 않으면 안 된다. 또한 급격한 변단면 구간이나 가로보 연결부 등에서 의도적으로 속도를 지연시키기 위한 계획적인 초결시간 변화가 가능해야 한다. 이 연구에서는 OPC, S/C, OPC와 S/C 혼합 및 저발열 시멘트를 이용한 배합시험을 통해 시멘트의 종류, 혼화제, 대기온도에 따른 콘크리트 초기응력특성을 관찰하였다.

  • This study reports the site application of the early strength development technology for form stripping earlier than normal state in the apartment construction. It is a method of framework rationalization and it needs the technology of early strength development concrete and 6-day cycle process. We applied the method to the apartment construction to reduce the floor construction period and to maximize the economical effect by reduction of the period of total construction. As a result, we confirmed the superior property of the early strength development of the concrete and reliable success of 6-day cycle process.
