  • Increased signal in T1-weighted images was observed in the experimental manganese (Mn) poisoning of the non-human primate and a patient with Mn neurointoxication. However, our study showed that the increased signals in magnetic resonance images (MRI) were highly prevalent (41.6%) in Mn-exposed workers. Blood Mn concentration correlated with pallidal index. These changes in MRI tend to disappear following the withdrawal from the source of Mn accumulation, despite permanent neurological damage. Thus increased signal intensities on a T1-weighted image reflect exposure to Mn, but not necessarily manganism. Our study also showed that the concentration of Mn required to produce increased signal intensities on MRI is much lower than the threshold necessary to result in overt clinical signs of manganism. Increased signal intensities in the globus pallidus were determined by manganese accumulation in the animal experiment. Reanalysis of the previous data with the structural equation model revealed that pallidal index (Pl) on MRI reflects target organ dose of occupational Mn exposure

  • Printing ink is faced various shear stress situation until it transfer to the printed substrate through the press. And in each shear stress condition the ink is needed to keep the appropriate viscosity according to the condition. The change of printing ink viscosity has been explained by well-known through the viscosity profile curve. But actually, the quality of printed paper depends on the ink behavior after transfer the substrates. Like this, to look into the behaviour of the ink on the printed substrate, it is needed the experiment of the ink structure recovering by rheology study. In this study, by controling the $CaCO_3$ content in the ink, after investigating the effect of the ink's structure recovery of the pigment concentration, we intend to predict the printing quality of the ink behvior on the substrate depending on pigment content.

  • Purpose In face reocognition area, estimating occlusion in face images is on the rise. In this paper, we propose a new face recognition algorithm based on dual sparse representation to solve this problem. Method Each face image is partitioned into several pieces and sparse representation is implemented in each part. Then, some parts that have large sparse concentration index are combined and sparse representation is performed one more time. Each test sample is classified by using the final sparse coefficient where correlation between the test sample and training sample is applied. Results The recognition rate of the proposed algorithm is higher than that of the basic sparse representation classification. Conclusion The proposed method can be applied in real life which needs to identify someone exactly whether the person disguises his face or not.

  • The effects of low viscosity chitosan on the rheological properties of soymilk using a model system and on tofu qualities were examined. The flow behavior of soy milk with chitosan closed the Newtonian flow and stabilized according to increasing chitosan concentration. The soymilk containing $glucono-\delta-lactone$ exhibited a more pseudoplastic flow behavior compared with that of the control soymilk. The addition of low viscosity chitosan to the tofu preparation did not significantly affect its physicochemical properties. However, the results of the TEM image and instrumental textural properties showed that low viscosity chitosan affected the construction of the tofu structure. Chitosan tofu had low scores across the whole field of appearance in the sensory evaluation, and its overall eating quality was scored significantly lower. These results suggest that the addition of low viscosity chit os an affects the quality of tofu, which changes according to the degree of polymerization and concentration of chitosan.

  • In this study, the 3- dimensional (3-D) learning contents are suggested using 'Augmented Reality' instead of existing 2-dimensional (2-D) learning methods. At the present, there are some 2-D learning methods using texts, image, pictures, and videos called e-learning. However, these one-way 2-D methods have some disadvantages such as declining learner's immersion and concentration. Thus, the 3-D learning contents using 'Augmented Reality' are suggested to compensate the disadvantages. According to the development of information technology (IT), the augmented reality has many applications to the era of ubiquitous. However, there are some disadvantages when learners use these contents as following; non-augmenting by partially hiding from makers and declining concentration by patterns of the makers. In this study, the beneficial marker which can solve this non-augmenting phenomenon is suggested.

  • Phosphorus removal during discharge of wastewater is required to achieve in a very high level because eutrophication occurs even at a very low phosphorus concentration. However, there are limitations in the traditional technologies in the removal of phosphorus at very low concentration, such as at a level lower than 0.1 mg/L. Through a series of experiments, a possible technology which can remove phosphate to a very low level in the final effluent of wastewater was suggested. At first Al, Zn, Ca, Fe, and Mg were exposed to phosphate solution by impregnating them on the surface of activated alumina to select the material which has the highest affinity to phosphate. Kinetic tests and isotherm tests on phosphate solution have been performed on four media, which are Ca-impregnated activated alumina, activated alumina, Ca-impregnated loess ball, and loess ball. Results showed that Ca-impregnated activated alumina has the highest capacity to adsorb phosphate in water. Scanning electron microscope image analysis showed that activated alumina has high void volume, which provides a large surface area for phosphate to be adsorbed. Through a continuous column test of the Ca-impregnated activated alumina it was discovered that about 4,000 bed volumes of wastewater with about 0.2 mg/L of phosphate can be treated down to lower than 0.14 mg/L of concentration.

  • Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) are a group of bacteria that can increase plant growth; but due to unfavorable environmental conditions, PGPR are biologically unstable and their survival rates in soil are limited. Therefore, the suitable application of PGPR as a plant growth stimulation is one of the significant challenges in agriculture. This study presents an intelligent formulation based on Bacillus velezensis VRU1 encapsulation enriched with nanoparticles that was able to control Rhizoctonia solani on the bean. The spherical structure of the capsule was observed based on the Scanning Electron Microscope image. Results indicated that with increasing gelatin concentration, the swelling ratio and moisture content were increased; and since the highest encapsulation efficiency and bacterial release were observed at a gelatin concentration of 1.5%, this concentration was considered in mixture with alginate for encapsulation. The application of this formulation which is based on encapsulation and nanotechnology appears to be a promising technique to deliver PGPR in soil and is more effective for plants.
