  • Nowadays a large number of PLCs are being used in automatic machines for factory automation in industry, and HMI is essential for the effective and convenient operation of PLCs. Each screen displayed in actual EMI equipment should be created, modified and deleted using a PC-based editor and it should be composed of necessary display components to express desired OUI. Based object-oriented development methodology, this study designed screen objects representing a editing screen, display components forming the UI of screens and data management objects necessary for data exchange with HIM system and, based on the objects, implemented a HMI screen editor.

  • The analysis and design process of the LCL filter with passive damping circuits for three-phase grid-connected inverter are presented based on the generalized model of LCL filter. Several types of the passive damping circuits in previous studies could be compared and analyzed by using the generalized model considering various design criteria of passive damping circuits. According to the analysis in this paper, a reasonable configuration of passive damping circuits for three-phase grid-connected inverters is proposed. The validity of the proposed design process is verified by informative simulation and experimental results.

  • In this paper, we consider wireless sensor networks with hard energy constraint, where each node is powered by a small battery. Under this hard constraint, reducing energy consumption is the most important design consideration for wireless sensor networks. Energy saving and control is an important issue, involved in the design of most sensor nodes. In this context, we focus on physical layer design where energy constraint problem can be modeled as an optimization of transmission modulation scheme[1]. Specifically, our analyses are based on energy control schemes that are relative to physical layer design on upper bound SEP MPSK in AWGN channels.

  • Computer aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology today is the standard in manufacturing industry. The application of the CAD/CAM technology, together with the emerging 3D medical images based virtual surgical planning (VSP) technology, to craniomaxillofacial reconstruction has been gaining increasing attention to reconstructive surgeons. This article illustrates the components, system and clinical management of the VSP and CAD/CAM technology including: data acquisition, virtual surgical and treatment planning, individual implant design and fabrication, and outcome assessment. It focuses primarily on the technical aspects of the VSP and CAD/CAM system to improve the predictability of the planning and outcome.

  • Existing large-scale complex programs usually reside In a single computer, and the user has to be physically in contact with the computer. With the wide spread use of the internet, the need to carry out the design and analysis tasks geographically away from the main computer is increasing. In this paper existing Windows-based propeller design and analysis package is separated into the server-client modules and the protocol program is developed to implement the communication between multi-client computers and a single server computer. A new protocol packet is designed to use the Windows socket and the server/client programs control the receive/send operations using the information transmitted in the packet. Test runs show that the remote user, connected to the server computer through the internet only, can perform the required tasks.

  • In this paper, we describe capstone-related courses in the Computer information department of Dongyang-Mirae University and propose a capstone design model for computer engineering discipline based on operating experiences during the last year. Class schedules and contents, etc are presented from the case studies of two courses on system analysis and design and graduation work(capstone design) opened in 2015. Towards the successful operation of capstone design targeted to training practical and talented professionals with creative problem-solving skills, we propose six execution steps along with principal activities and outputs: Course plan, Project plan, Development, Reporting, Evaluation of students and coursework, and Course feedback. The capstone design model of this study is characterized by presenting the necessity and importance of pre and post steps such as 'Course Plan' and 'Course reflux' from a macroscopic view and by applying software engineering techniques such as prototyping, configuration managements, etc to it.

  • Machine element design is a very important course in the undergraduate program of mechanical engineering in that it presents traditional design concepts. While computer aided design(CAD) receives more attention, students tend to ignore the machine element design or traditional design concepts. However, design methodologies related to machine elements are utilized quite often in practical fields. Also, design methodologies provide good insight for the decision making process of modern design. Generally, CAD is used for simple drafting without the real design process in the undergraduate program. Design software has been developed for various machine elements. Through menu display, a user can select or furnish the design input such as design objects, dimensions, environmental forces and usages, and safety factors. Then the software carries out the design processes which are the same as those of textbooks. The result of the design is filtered to have the values in the standards. The designed machine element is drawn via commercial CAD software. The software has been developed with C language on a personal computer. The developed software is being utilized successfully in a design course, and the experiences are discussed in this paper. The software can be used in industries which require the repeated process of the machine element design.
