Recent development in science and technology has modernized the weapon systems of ROKN (Republic Of Korea Navy). Although the cost of purchasing, operating, and maintaining the cutting-edge weapon systems has been increased significantly, the national defense expenditure is under a tight budget constraint. In order to maintain the availability of ships with low cost, we need an efficient and scientific method for managing repairable parts. In this study, we propose a simulation model that computes the availability of ship's repairable parts. Our model is based on the METRIC (Multi Echelon Technique Repairable Item Control) model and extends to five sub-models to reflect the realistic situations that arise in the navy, such as planned maintenance, condemnation, lateral transshipment, and cannibalization. We have performed simulations to compute the availability of repairable parts while setting the part-level consistent throughout the five models and carried out two sensitivity analyses. The simulation results show the differences in the part availability in different models. The experiments confirm our claim that ROKN needs an inventory management system that captures the operational characteristics of the navy.
A Satellite Communication (SATCOM), which is applied to various systems to communicate with other systems at the limited wired communication situation, is required to head at a stable point of the space, because this system uses a geostationary satellite. It is important to know satellite tracking heading angles such as elevation angle and azimuth angle for the immovable antenna's latitude, longitude, and altitude. Moreover, calculation of heading angle is critical for SATCOM antenna on a moving platform. In this study, a antenna heading angle calculation method is applied to compute elevation and azimuth angle for a SATCOM antenna and the heading angle simulation is executed for the Korea peninsula and surrounding areas. To verify this simulation, satellite tracking test is conducted using a SATCOM antenna which uses monopulse signal tracking method. The simulation is confirmed by comparing this test result with the simulation. And we make a suggestion for calculation of polarization angle of this antenna.

In the nuclear power plant, early detection of fatigue crack by non-destructive test (NDT) equipment due to the thermal cyclic load is very important in terms of strict safety regulation. To this end, many efforts are exerted to the fabrication of artificial cracked specimen for practicing engineers in the NDT company. The crack of this kind, however, cannot be made by conventional machining, but should be made under thermal cyclic load that is close to the in-situ condition, which takes tremendous time due to the repetition. In this study, thermal loading condition is investigated to minimize the time for fabricating the cracked specimen using simulation technique which predicts the crack initiation and propagation behavior. Simulation and experiment are conducted under an initial assumed condition for validation purpose. A number of simulations are conducted next under a variety of heating and cooling conditions, from which the best solution to achieve minimum time for crack with wanted size is found. In the simulation, general purpose software ANSYS is used for the stress analysis, MATLAB is used to compute crack initiation life, and ZENCRACK, which is special purpose software for crack growth prediction, is used to compute crack propagation life. As a result of the study, the time for the crack to reach the size of 1mm is predicted from the 418 hours at the initial condition to the 319 hours at the optimum condition, which is about 24% reduction.
A comprehensive, nonsteady state, computer simulation program for the environmental conditions in advancing tunnels (the HEADSIM simulation program) is constructed and successfully validated with heat balance amongst all heat sources, and with mass conservation amongst various airflows including the leakage air from ducts, under timedependent variations of inlet air conditions. which include sudden, diurnal and seasonal changes. Heat conduction in the wall strata and face strata is simulated with most complicated boundary conditions using the finite difference method, and the climatic conditions in roadway sections which contain air ducts, booster fan, spray cooler, compressed air pipes, cold water pipes, return water pipes, machinery and broken rock are simulated taking into account the variations of face operation and the heat storage mechanism in the strata. The limitations of simulation time steps and roadway section lengths are defined according to the stability criteria satisfying the principles of thermodynamics. Variations of heat transfer coefficients, which are newly set, and those of wetness factors are taken into account according to the variations of other parameters and the stepwise advance of the face. Newly-derived formulae are used for computing the air duct leakage and the pressure inside of the duct. A new concept of an 'imaginary duct' is introduced to simulate the climatic conditions in tunnels during holiday periods, which directly affect conditions on subsequent working days under the consideration of natural convection. A subsidiary program (the WALLSIM simulation program) is made to compute the dimensionless tunnel surface temperatures and to compare the results with those from analytical approaches, and to demonstrate the stability, convergence and accuracy of the strata heat conduction simulation, adopting the finite difference method. The WALLSIM also has wide applications, including those for the computation of age coefficients.

In this study, we found out the relation between $FeCl_3$ recovering-concentration and stage number of extraction process for invar (Fe+Ni) etching process. In order to get the desired $FeCl_3$ recovering-concentration economically, we developed the simulation program for designing the optimal $FeCl_3$ extraction process. We got the key parameter for this simulation program through pilot scale experiments. The process simulation by the developed program could reduce the emission of waste etching solution as well as the treatment costs. In addition, the developed program could calculate the number of stage of the etchant recovering system and the process time to get the desired concentration of $FeCl_3$. This program was used to compute the optimal capacity of the etchant recovering system and applied to the optimization of the stage of the etchant recovering system in real IT industry.
An analysis for the computation of Fatigue Damage Index (FDI) under the effects of the various combination of the ocean loads like random waves, current, platform motion and VIV (Vortex Induced Vibration) for a certain design water depth is a critically important part of the analysis and design of the marine riser platform integrated system. Herein, a 'Computer Simulation Model (CSM)' is developed to combine the advantages of the frequency domain and time domain. A case study considering a steel catenary riser operating in 1000 m water depth has been conducted with semi-submersible. The riser is subjected to extreme environmental conditions and static and dynamic response analyses are performed and the Response Amplitude Operators (RAOs) of the offshore platform are computed with the frequency domain solution. Later the frequency domain results are integrated with time domain analysis system for the dynamic analysis in time domain. After that an extensive post processing is done to compute the FDI of the marine riser. In the present paper importance is given to the nature of the current profile and the VIV. At the end we have reported the detail results of the FDI comparison with VIV and without VIV under the linear current velocity and the FDI comparison with linear and power law current velocity with and without VIV. We have also reported the design recommendations for the marine riser in the regions where the higher fatigue damage is observed and the proposed CSM is implemented in industrially used standard soft solution systems (i.e., OrcaFlex*TM and Ansys AQWA**TM), Ms-Excel***TM, and C++ programming language using its object oriented features.
This paper presents an efficient method utilizing user-defined computer functional codes to determine the reliability of an embankment slope with spatially varying soil properties in real time. The soils' mechanical properties varied with the soil layers that had different degrees of compaction and moisture content levels. The Latin Hypercube Sampling (LHS) for the degree of compaction and Kriging simulation of moisture content variation were adopted and programmed to predict their spatial distributions, respectively, that were subsequently used to characterize the spatial distribution of the soil shear strengths. The shear strength parameters were then integrated into the Geostudio command file to determine the safety factor of the embankment slope. An explicit metamodal for the performance function, using the Kriging method, was established and coded to efficiently compute the failure probability of slope with varying moisture contents. Sensitivity analysis showed that the proposed method significantly reduced the computational time compared to Monte Carlo simulation. About 300 times LHS Geostudio computations were needed to optimize precision and efficiency in determining the failure probability. The results also revealed that an embankment slope is prone to high failure risk if the degree of compaction is low and the moisture content is high.
In the kinetic theory of dense fluids the many-particle collision bracket integral is given in terms of a classical collision operator defined in the phase space. To find an algorithm to compute the collision bracket integrals, we revisit the eigenvalue problem of the Liouville operator and re-examine the method previously reported [Chem. Phys. 1977, 20, 93]. Then we apply the notion and concept of the eigenfunctions of the Liouville operator and knowledge acquired in the study of the eigenfunctions to cast collision bracket integrals into more convenient and suitable forms for numerical simulations. One of the alternative forms is given in the form of time correlation function. This form, on a further manipulation, assumes a form reminiscent of the Chapman- Enskog collision bracket integrals, but for dense gases and liquids as well as solids. In the dilute gas limit it would give rise precisely to the Chapman-Enskog collision bracket integrals for two-particle collision. The alternative forms obtained are more readily amenable to numerical simulation methods than the collision bracket integrals expressed in terms of a classical collision operator, which requires solution of classical Lippmann-Schwinger integral equations. This way, the aforementioned kinetic theory of dense fluids is made fully accessible by numerical computation/simulation methods, and the transport coefficients thereof are made computationally as accessible as those in the linear response theory.

For the One-way random effects model with unbalanced data, the AOV and MINQUE estimates of variance components are frequently found to be negative. The primary objective of present study is placed on the computation of the probability of the main effect variance component, being negative. The probability of negative estimators from AOV and MINQUE can be obtained by theoretical computation under the normality assumption. It is, however, difficult to compute the probability of negative estimates for these estimators under arbitrary distributions, and hence their probabilities of being negative were computed by simulation experiment in this study. It was shown that there was no significant difference between the theoretical probability under normality and calculated probability by simulation experiment, and that probability of negative estimates decreases as sample size, number of levels and the value of increase.

This paper presents a decision making technique of reasonable $O_2$quantity needed to resolve organic matter via microbe in wastewater treatment. Decision making system of inferring reasonable $O_2$quantity consists of three parts. The first part is to compute reasonable $O_2$quantity with given process data. The second part is to find output features of processed wastewater using process model when $O_2$quantity is changed to a value inferred from decision making system. The third part is to show the results of decision making system. In order to verify performance of proposed decision making system computer simulation was done with process data gathered during 40 days. Simulation result shows that $O_2$quantity can be reduced over 10% under the condition of satisfying the specifications for processed wastewater.
