  • The pressure-transient on platform screen doors in side platforms caused by passing trains with various operating conditions have been investigated numerically. The transient compressible three-dimensional flow simulations are performed with actual operating conditions of two trains by adopting moving mesh technique. To achieve more realistic results, the detailed shape of train and the subway station including tunnels connecting the adjacent stations are represented in the computational domain. Numerical analyses are carried out for cases considering arriving/passing/departing train with or without train stopped on the opposite track, and both trains on the move in opposite direction. From the numerical results, the maximum pressure on the platform screen doors, which is predicted in the case of two passing trains, satisfied the design standards for similar stations.

  • In the present study, two phase flows around a projectile vertically launched from an underwater platform have been numerically investigated by using a three dimensional multi-phase RANS flow solver based on pseudo-compressibility and a homogeneous mixture model on unstructured meshes. The relative motion between the platform and projectile was described by six degrees of freedom equations of motion with Euler angles and a chimera technique. The propulsive power of the projectile was modeled as the fluid force acting on the lower surface of the body by the compressed air emitted from the underwater platform. Various flow conditions were considered to analyze the fluid-dynamics motion parameters of the projectile. The water level of platform and the current speed around the projectile were the main parametric variables. The numerical calculations were conducted up to 0.75sec in physical time scale. The dynamics tendency of the projectile was almost identical with respect to the water level variation due to the constant buoyancy term. The moving speed of the projectile along the vertical axis inside the platform decreased when the current speed increased. This is because the inflow from outside of the platform impeded development of the compressed air emitted from the floor surface of the launch platform. As a result, the fluid force acting on the lower surface of the projectile decreased, and injection time of the projectile from the platform was delayed.

계산과학플랫폼 기반 온라인 양자화학 실험 환경 개발 (Development of Online Quantum Chemistry Experiment Environment Based on Computational Science Platform)

  • This paper introduces an online experiment environment based on a computational science platform that can be used for various purposes ranging from basic education to quantum chemistry and professional quantum chemistry research. The simulation environment was constructed using a simulation workbench and simulation workflow, which are execution environment services of Science App provided by the computational science platform. We developed an environment in which learners can learn independently without an instructor by selecting experiment topics that can be used in various areas of chemistry, and offering the learning materials of the topics in a form of e-learning content that includes theory and simulation exercises. To verify the superiority of the proposed system, it was compared with WebMO, a state-of-the-art web-based quantum chemistry simulation service.

계산과학 분야의 교육 및 융합연구 지원을 위한 EDISON 플랫폼 (EDISON Platform to Supporting Education and Integration Research in Computational Science)

  • 최근에는 응용과학 분야의 교육 및 연구에 실제 실험이 아닌 슈퍼컴퓨터 및 고성능 네트워크 기반의 사이버 인프라에서 과학적 가정에 의해 복잡한 공학문제를 수치적 모델링과 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 통해 해결하는 계산과학을 이용하는 기법들의 필요성이 증대되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 컴퓨팅 시뮬레이션 기법을 활용한 실험 체험형 교육의 일환으로, 이공계 교수, 학생, 연구자, 산업체 인력 등이 사이버 인프라스트럭처 기반으로 시뮬레이션 SW를 활용한 교육 및 융합연구를 지원하는 EDISON 플랫폼을 제시한다. EDISON 플랫폼은 사용자들에게 보다 쉽고, 편하고, 효과적인 서비스 제공을 위해 3계층(EDISON 응용 프레임워크, EDISON 미들웨어, EDISON 인프라 자원)으로 구성되고 5개 분야(열유체, 화학, 물리, 구조동역학, 전산설계) 문제해결 환경을 위한 교육 연구용 웹 포털 서비스를 제공한다.

  • Heat/smoke detectors are installed in most subway platforms in Korea to detect fire. Subway platform is divided by smoke-control zones for efficient smoke-control. Once the detectors detect heat or smoke, the smoke-control ventilation system in the platform and concourse is activated according to the smoke-control ventilation mode. Smoke-control mode during fires in Korean subway platforms is that the smoke zones operate by exhausting smoke while other zones in the platform and in the concourse which is the upper floor of the platform operate by supplying air or stopping any ventilation. This study is conducted to evaluate performance of passengers' evacuation for various smoke control modes in the subway station. Distribution of smoke and heat due to fire on the platform is analyzed by using Fire Dynamics Simulator(FDS V 4.06) of NIST. Various smoke-control ventilation modes and locations of fire are considered. Evacuation and movement of passengers within the platform is simulated by building EXODUS V.4.0.

조선 해양 산업에서의 응용을 위한 하둡 기반의 빅데이터 플랫폼 연구 (A Study on Big Data Platform Based on Hadoop for the Applications in Ship and Offshore Industry)

  • As Information Technology (IT) is developed constantly, big data is becoming important in various industries, including ship and offshore industry where a lot of data are being generated. However, it is difficult to apply big data to ship and offshore industry because there is no generalized platform for its application. Therefore, this study presents a big data platform based on the Hadoop for applications in ship and offshore industry. The Hadoop is one of the most popular big data technologies. The presented platform includes existing data of shipyard and is possible to manage and process the data. To check the applicability of the platform, it is applied to estimate the weight of offshore plant topsides. The result shows that the platform can be one of alternatives to use effectively big data in ship and offshore industry.

  • Most manufacturing enterprises create CAD data as a result of the product/part design process; however, the CAD data is being utilized only for production activities. Besides the processes directly related to manufacturing such as design and production, the CAD data is an important resource that can be used in variety of services (e.g., catalog production and production manuals) for manufacturing enterprises. This study proposes a software platform that can support a wide range of services for manufacturing companies in an efficient and productive way. The software platform was designed based on the functions identified by requirement analysis. The platform consists of four layers: data model layer to manage relevant data; library layer and common function layer to configure services; and application layer to install and run the software. Finally, this study evaluates the validity of the proposed platform architecture by applying it to the digital catalog system.

Data Framework Design of EDISON 2.0 Digital Platform for Convergence Research

  • With improving computing performance, various digital platforms are being developed to enable easily utilization of high-performance computing environments. EDISON 1.0 is an online simulation platform widely used in computational science and engineering education. As the research paradigm changes, the demand for developing the EDISON 1.0 platform centered on simulation into the EDISON 2.0 platform centered on data and artificial intelligence is growing. Herein, a data framework, a core module for data-centric research on EDISON 2.0 digital platform, is proposed. The proposed data framework provides the following three functions. First, it provides a data repository suitable for the data lifecycle to increase research reproducibility. Second, it provides a new data model that can integrate, manage, search, and utilize heterogeneous data to support a data-driven interdisciplinary convergence research environment. Finally, it provides an exploratory data analysis (EDA) service and data enrichment using an AI model, both developed to strengthen data reliability and maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of research endeavors. Using the EDISON 2.0 data framework, researchers can conduct interdisciplinary convergence research using heterogeneous data and easily perform data pre-processing through the web-based UI. Further, it presents the opportunity to leverage the derived data obtained through AI technology to gain insights and create new research topics.

전산플랫폼을 이용한 초고층구조물의 감쇠장치 최적화 설계 (Optimization Design of Damping Devices for a Super-Tall Building Using Computational Platform)

  • 본 연구에서는 파라매트릭 모델링 기법을 통해 다양한 대안을 고려할 수 있도록 개발된 StrAuto(이하 전산플랫폼)을 이용하여 감쇠장치에 따른 감쇠비 증가 효과와 풍하중 저감효과를 평가하였다. 비정형 초고층구조물의 수많은 구조시스템 대안 선정을 지원하는 전산플랫폼은 설계자 또는 엔지니어에게 초기 대안을 결정하는데 있어 유용한 도구가 된다. 감쇠장치의 용량 및 추가 요구감쇠비의 크기를 산정하는 과정에서 중요한 원 구조물의 감쇠비에 대한 추정은 풍하중에 대한 실계측 자료를 기반으로 수행된 국내외 관련 연구의 결과를 사용하였다. 감쇠장치는 층간 설치형 수동형 감쇠장치와 질량형 능동형 감쇠장치 두 가지 유형을 고려하였다. 감쇠장치에 의해 추가되는 감쇠비는 FEMA에서 제안한 식을 이용하여 등가 정적 해석을 수행하여 산정하였다. 전산 플랫폼 내부에 감쇠장치의 용량을 최적화하는 알고리즘을 내장함으로써 최적의 감쇠장치 설계안을 자동적으로 도출할 수 있다. 감쇠장치 설치에 따른 물량저감 효과는 풍하중 저감계수로 평가될 수 있으며, 455m 높이의 초고층구조물을 대상으로 제안한 방법의 유효성을 검증하였다. 제안한 방법을 사용하여 비선형 시간이력 해석을 통해 얻어진 지붕층 변위와 층별 전단력을 근사적으로 추정할 수 있음을 확인하였다.
