Eutrophication has occurred due to the inflow of various water pollutants in many Korean reservoirs with low depth, and algal blooms of surface layer and low oxygenation of deep layer have repeated every year. There are several existing technologies to alleviate the stratification of reservoirs, but it is difficult to apply them in field sites due to the necessity of electric power and low economic efficiency. In this study, a non-powered water circulation system using natural energy of wind and water flow has been developed, and two test-beds constructed in the reservoirs with different conditions and examined its field applicability. Through computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation, it has been shown that the water circulation system could induce the downward flow to mitigate the stratification between surface and deep layers, and its influence radius could reach about 30 m. As a result of long-term monitoring of the test-beds, various water quality improvement effects have been observed such as moderation of DO fluctuation by water circulation, reduction of DO supersaturation and prevention of excessive pH rising. In order to improve the applicability of the water circulation system, it is considered necessary to review countermeasures against flood and depth conditions of each reservoir.
Nowadays we are not able to consider and imagine anything without taking into account what is called Artificial Intelligence. Even broadcasting media technologies could not be thought of outside this newly emerging technology of A.I.. Since the last part of 20th century, this technology seemingly is accelerating it's development thanks to an unbelievably enormous computational capacity of data information treatments. In conjunction with the firmly established worldwide platform companies like GAFA(Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple), the key cutting edge technologies dubbed NBIC(Nanotech, Biotech, Information Technology, Cognitive science) converge to change the map of the current civilization by affecting the human relationship with the world and hence modifying what is essential in humans. Under the sign of the converging technologies, the relatively recently coined concepts such as 'trans(post)humanism' are emerging in the academic sphere in the North American and Major European regions. Even though the so-called trans(post)human movements are prevailing in the major technological spots, we have to say that these terms do not yet reach an unanimous acceptation among many experts coming from diverse fields. Indeed trans(post)humanism as a sort of obscure term has been a largely controversial trend. Because there have been many different opinions depending on scientific, philosophical, medical, engineering scholars like Peter Sloterdijk, K. N. Hayles, Neil Badington, Raymond Kurzweil, Hans Moravec, Laurent Alexandre, Gilbert Hottois just to name a few. However, considering the highly dazzling development of artificial intelligence technology basically functioning in conjunction with the cybernetic communication system firstly conceived by Nobert Wiener, MIT mathematician, we can not avoid questioning what A. I. signifies and how it will affect the current media communication environment.
In this paper, implications for future curriculum compilation were sought by analyzing the process and results of compiling books for elementary school mathematics textbooks government published according to the 2015 revised curriculum. The 2015 revised elementary mathematics textbooks government published was operated with a systematic compilation system so that academia and school field experts across the country could demonstrate their expertise. As improvements in content, the unit and time to strengthen basic computational skills were increased, and the mathematical concept and principle introduction method and algorithm presentation method were improved, and the internal connection between contents was strengthened. The learning period was adjusted, such as moving and arranging contents that are difficult for students to understand to the upper semester or the upper grade. In the 1st and 2nd graders, the amount of reading was drastically reduced to suit the students' level of Korean, and sentences and vocabulary were improved, and instructions were briefly revised. As for editing and design improvements, illustrations of each unit's introduction and contextual pictures were presented in detail, and the characters in the textbook were consistently presented across all grades, giving children characters a role to actively participate in learning in the textbook. In the process of compiling, the media, the National Assembly, and civic groups raised opinions that sentences and vocabulary in first-year textbooks are more difficult than students' level of Hangeul education, that reducing textbooks makes it difficult for students to understand. Accordingly, efforts to improve textbook compilation and the results were viewed. Through the overall analysis as above, for future compilation of state-authored textbooks and certified textbooks, a plan to improve textbook compilation for students and teachers and a plan to operate compilation was proposed.
Secondary flows have a huge impact on losses generation in modern low pressure gas turbines (LPTs). At design point, the interaction of the blade profile with the end-wall boundary layer is responsible for up to 40% of total losses. Therefore, predicting accurately the end-wall flow field in a LPT is extremely important in the industrial design phase. Since the inlet boundary layer profile is one of the factors which most affects the evolution of secondary flows, the first main objective of the present work is to investigate the impact of two different inlet conditions on the end-wall flow field of the T106A, a well known LPT cascade. The first condition, labeled in the paper as C1, is represented by uniform conditions at the inlet plane and the second, C2, by a flow characterized by a defined inlet boundary layer profile. The code used for the simulations is based on the Discontinuous Galerkin (DG) formulation and solves the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations coupled with the Spalart Allmaras turbulence model. Secondly, this work aims at estimating the influence of viscosity and turbulence on the T106A end-wall flow field. In order to do so, RANS results are compared with those obtained from an inviscid simulation with a prescribed inlet total pressure profile, which mimics a boundary layer. A comparison between C1 and C2 results highlights an influence of secondary flows on the flow field up to a significant distance from the end-wall. In particular, the C2 end-wall flow field appears to be characterized by greater over turning and under turning angles and higher total pressure losses. Furthermore, the C2 simulated flow field shows good agreement with experimental and numerical data available in literature. The C2 and inviscid Euler computed flow fields, although globally comparable, present evident differences. The cascade passage simulated with inviscid flow is mainly dominated by a single large and homogeneous vortex structure, less stretched in the spanwise direction and closer to the end-wall than vortical structures computed by compressible flow simulation. It is reasonable, then, asserting that for the chosen test case a great part of the secondary flows details is strongly dependent on viscous phenomena and turbulence.

The global energy paradigm is rapidly changing by centering on carbon neutrality, and wind energy is positioning itself as a leader in renewable energy-based power sources. The success of onshore and offshore wind energy projects focuses on securing the economic feasibility of the project, which depends on securing high-quality wind resources and optimal arrangement of wind turbines. In the process of constructing the wind farm, the optimal arrangement method of wind turbines considering the main wind direction is important, and this is related to minimizing the wake effect caused by the fluid passing through the structure located on the windward side. The accuracy of the predictability of the wake effect is determined by the wake model and modeling technique that can properly simulate it. Therefore, in this paper, using WindSim, a commercial CFD model, the wake diffusion pattern is analyzed through the sensitivity study of each wake model of the proposed onshore wind farm located in the mountainous complex terrain in South Korea, and it is intended to be used as basic research data for wind energy projects in complex terrain in the future.

Weight is a critical factor in the ship design process given that it has a substantial impact on the hydrodynamic performance of ships. Typically, ships are optimally designed for specific conditions with a fixed draft and displacement. However, in reality, weight and draft can vary within a certain range owing to operational activities, such as fuel consumption, ballast adjustments, and loading conditions . Therefore, we investigated how resistance changes under three different loading conditions, namely overload, design-load, and lightship, for small craft, using both model experiments and numerical simulations. Additionally, we examined the sensitivity of weight changes to resistance to enhance the performance of ships, ultimately reducing power requirements in support of the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) goal of reducing CO2 emissions by 50% by 2050. We found that weight changes have a more significant impact at low Froude Numbers. Operating under overload conditions, which correspond to a 5% increase in draft and an 11.1% increase in displacement, can lead to a relatively substantial increase in total resistance, up to 15.97% and 14.31% in towing tests and CFD simulations, respectively.
Proton therapy is known for its superior treatment method due to Bragg peak. To enhance the therapeutic effects of protons, research has been conducted on distributing gold nanoparticles within tumors to increase the absorbed dose. While previous studies focused on handling gold nanoparticles at micrometer and nonometer scale, this study proposes a method to computationally estimate the effect of gold nanoparticles at the millimeter scale. The Geant4 toolkit was applied to computational modeling. Assuming a uniform distribution of water, similar to the human body, and gold nanoparticles, the concentration of gold nanoparticles was adjusted using density ratios. When the density ratio was 5%, the gain in absorbed energy due to gold nanoparticles was nearly twice that of the pure water phantom at the Bragg peak. As the density ratio increased, the gain in absorbed energy linearly increased. When gold nanoparticles were distributed in only one voxel at the Bragg peak, the energy of the protons affected only the neighboring voxels. However, in cases where gold nanoparticles were distributed over a wide area, the volume showing 95% of the maximum absorbed energy (9.46 keV) for the pure water phantom (9.95 keV) exhibited an improvement in absorbed energy over a region 16 times larger, and this region increased as the density ratio increased. Further research is needed to quantify the relationship between the density ratio of gold nanoparticles and the relative biological effect (RBE) in the millimeter scale.

Steel pipe reinforced grouting method has been widely used to strengthen the crown of tunnel face and prevent groundwater leakage during tunnel excavation. Various injection procedures without sealing have recently been suggested to enhance efficiency. There are two representative injection methods. One is simultaneous injection in segmented batches, and the other is multiple injection using the external packer. The pros and cons of each method were discussed in terms of construction duration and equipment. However, it has yet to be discussed how the injection procedure affects the grout diffusion range in the ground. This study aims to evaluate the grout diffusion range quantitatively by considering the practical grouting sequences. The grout viscosity was measured by laboratory testing. Then, the numerical modeling was structured using the commercial computational fluid dynamics software. Finally, the grout diffusion range affected by the injection procedure and ground conditions was evaluated by performing the numerical parametric study. The results showed that the injection method highly affected the grout diffusion range, especially for inhomogeneous soil. Consequently, it is anticipated that the proper method of steel pipe reinforced grouting will be suggested.
RANS-based CFD analysis is widely applied in various engineering fields, including practical hydraulic engineering, due to its high computational efficiency. However, problems of non-physical behavior in the analysis of two phase flow, such as free surfaces, have long been raised. The two-equation turbulence models used in general RANS-based analysis were developed for single phase flow and simulate unrealistically high turbulence energy at the interface where there are abrupt changes in fluid density. To solve this issue, one of the methods recently developed is the buoyancy-modified turbulence model, which has been partially validated in coastal engineering, but has not been applied to open channel flows. In this study, the applicability of the buoyancy-modified turbulence model is evaluated using the VOF method in the open-source program OpenFoam. The results of the uniform flow showed that both the buoyancy-modified k-𝜖 model and the buoyancy-modified k-ω SST model effectively simulated the reduction of turbulence energy near the free surface. Specifically, the buoyancy-modified k-ω SST model accurately simulated the vertical velocity distribution. Additionally, the model is applied to dam-break flows to examine cases with significant surface variation and cavity formation. The simulation results show that the buoyancy-modified turbulence models produce varying results depending on the VOF method and shows non-physical behavior different from experimental results. While the buoyancy-modified turbulence model is applicable in cases with stable surface shapes, it still has limitations in general application when there are rapid changes in the free surface. It is concluded that appropriate adjustments to the turbulence model are necessary for flows with rapid surface changes or cavity formation.

As the operating frequency of an electromagnetic wave increases, the maximum output and wavelength of the wave decreases, so that the size of the circuit cannot be reduced. As a result, the fabrication of a circuit with high power (of the order of or greater than kW range) and terahertz wave frequency band is limited, due to the problem of circuit size, to the order of ${\mu}m$ to mm. In order to overcome these limitations, we propose a source design technique for 0.1 THz~0.3 GW level with cylindrical shape (diameter ~2.4 cm). Modeling and computational simulations were performed to optimize the design of the high-power electromagnetic sources based on Cherenkov radiation generation technology using the principle of plasma wakefield acceleration with ponderomotive force and artificial dielectrics. An effective design guideline has been proposed to facilitate the fabrication of high-power terahertz wave vacuum devices of large diameter that are less restricted in circuit size through objective verification.
