  • From the beginning of 21st century, digital cameras became popular. In computer graphics community, much re search has been done using photographs taken by digital cameras. This kind of research is categorized as computational photography. The purpose of this paper is to explain the appearance of computational photography in the history of photography. Moreover, the history of photography is explained as a series of paradigm shifts. Based on the analysis, future research directions of computational photography will be given.

  • In this paper, we present few technical notes about the distance distribution paradigm for Mosaab-metric using 1, 2, and 3 grams feature extraction techniques to analyze composite data points in high dimensional feature spaces. This technical analysis will help the specialist in bioinformatics and biotechnology to deeply explore the biodiversity of influenza virus genome as a composite data point. Various technical examples are presented in this paper, in addition, the integrated statistical learning pipeline to process segmented genomes of influenza virus is illustrated as sequential-parallel computational pipeline.

  • Many computational models using computer program in agricultural engineering were proposed and introduced until now. These programs were developed based on procedure and structural program paradigm, so it's hard to reuse because programs become bigger and complex. In this study proposals a program paradigm that is easy to combine and reuse. Embedded engineering techniques are Java, JavaBean model, object-oriented programming.

  • With the emergence of a new paradigm called Open Science and Big Data, the need for data sharing and collaboration is also emerging in the computational science field. This paper, we analyzed data-driven research cases for computational science by field; material design, bioinformatics, high energy physics. We also studied the characteristics of the computational science data and the data management issues. To manage computational science data effectively it is required to have data quality management, increased data reliability, flexibility to support a variety of data types, and tools for analysis and linkage to the computing infrastructure. In addition, we analyzed trends of platform technology for efficient sharing and management of computational science data. The main contribution of this paper is to review the various computational science data repositories and related platform technologies to analyze the characteristics of computational science data and the problems of data management, and to present design considerations for building a future computational science data platform.

Performance Evaluation and Prediction on a Clustered SMP System for Aerospace CED Applications with Hybrid Paradigm

  • Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency has introduced a new terascale clusterd SMP system as a main compute engine of Numerical Simulator III for aerospace science and engineering research purposes. The system is using Fujitsu PRIMEPOWER HPC2500; it has computing capability of 9.3Tflop/s peak performance and 3.6TB of user memory, with about 1,800 scalar processors for computation. In this paper, we first present the performance evaluation results for aerospace CFD applications with hybrid programming paradigm used at JAXA. Next we propose a performance prediction formula for hybrid codes based on a simple extension of AMhhal's law, and discuss about the predicted and measured performances for some typical hybrid CFD codes.

  • The pre- and post-processor for finite element structural analysis considering the user-friendly device are developed by using GUI. These can be used on WINDOWS' environment which is realized the multi-tasking and the concurrency by object-oriented paradigm. They are designed to control integratedly the pre-processing, execution and the post-processing of the finite element structural analysis program on multiple windows. These object-oriented modeling approach can be used for complex integrated engineering systems.

  • It is urgent in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution that students become creative and integrative thinkers. In this vein, in the last few years, drawing upon constructivism as an innovative learning paradigm, new coding curricula using MIT's Scratch have been introduced in the number of countries to enhance computational thinking (CT). However, constructivism encouraging collaborative and active learning may not be explicitly utilized in instructional design focusing mainly on learning to code as technical skills - some of which exist today in large numbers of school and after-school code activities. To respond to such a misleading way of developing CT through coding, the present study aims to propose the benefits of CT self-assessment rubrics for primary pre-service teachers within a CT course entitled "Problem Solving by Computational Thinking". Our findings show how meaningful collaborative CT self-assessment in a group impacts their learning of CT. We end this paper with the discussion of implications of our findings for CT assessment towards a new paradigm in education.

Authoring Personal Virtual Studio Using Tangible Augmented Reality (탠저블 증강현실을 활용한 개인용 가상스튜디오 저작)

  • Nowadays personal users create a variety of multi-media contents and share them with others through various devices over the Internet since the concept of user created content (UCC) has been widely accepted as a new paradigm in today's multi-media market, which has broken the boundary of contents providers and consumers. This paradigm shift has also introduced a new business model that makes it possible for them to create their own multi-media contents for commercial purpose. This paper proposes a tangible virtual studio using augmented reality to author multi-media contents easily and intuitively for personal broadcasting and personal content generation. It provides a set of tangible interfaces and devices such as visual markers, cameras, movable and rotatable arms carrying cameras, and miniaturized set. They can offer an easy-to-use interface in an immersive environment and an easy switching mechanism between tangible environment and virtual environment. This paper also discusses how to remove inconsistency between real objects and virtual objects during the AR-enabled visualization with a context-adaptable tracking method. The context-adaptable tracking method not only adjusts the locations of invisible markers by interpolating the locations of existing reference markers, but also removes a jumping effect of movable virtual objects when their references are changed from one marker to another.

  • In this paper, we focus on a novel Internet architecture, based on the urbanization of virtual machines. In this approach, virtual networks are built linking specific virtual elements (router, switch, firewall, box, access point, etc.). A virtual network represents a network with an independent protocol stack that shares resources from the underlying network infrastructure. Virtualization divides a real computational environment into virtual computational environments that are isolated from each other, and interact with the upper computational layer, as would be expected from a real, non-virtualized environment. Metamorphic networks enhance several concepts related to future networks, and mainly the urbanization of virtual machines. We present this new paradigm, and the methodology, based on the worldwide metamorphic network platform "M-Net". The metamorphic approach could solve many complex problems, especially related to Cloud computing services.
