  • As a 3D mesh model consists of a lot of vertices and polygons and each vertex position is represented by three 32 bit floating-point numbers in a 3D coordinate, the amount of data needed for representing the model is very excessive. Thus, in order to store and/or transmit the 3D model efficiently, a 3D model compression is necessarily required. In this paper, a 3D model compression method using PRVQ (predictive residual vector quantization) is proposed. Its underlying idea is based on the characteristics such as high correlation between the neighboring vertex positions and the vectorial property inherent to a vertex position. Experimental results show that the proposed method obtains higher compression ratio than that of the existing methods and has the advantage of being capable of transmitting the vertex position data progressively.

  • As the design complexity increases, it is a major problem that the size of test pattern is large and power consumption is high in scan, especially system-on-a-chip(SoC), with the automatic test equipment(ATE). Because static compaction of test patterns heads to higher power for testing, it is very hard to reduce the test pattern volume for low power testing. This paper proposes an efficient compression/decompression algorithm based on run-length coding for reducing the amount of test data for low power testing that must be stored on a tester and be transferred to SoC. The experimental results show that the new algorithm is very efficient by reducing the memory space for test patterns and the hardware overhead for the decoder.

  • There are two problems in H.26X compression technique. One is compressing time in encoding process and the other is degradation of the decoded video quality due to high compression rate. For transferring moving pictures in real-time, it is required to adopt massively high compression. In this case, there are a lot of losses of an original video data and that results in degradation of quality. Especially degradation called by blocking artifact may be produced. The blocking artifact effect is produced by DCT-based coding techniques because they operate without considering correlation between pixels in block boundaries. So it represents discontinuity between adjacent blocks. This paper describes methods of quality compensation for H.26x decoded data and enhancing encoding speed for real-time operation. Our goal of the quality compensation is not to make the decoded video identical to a original video but to make it perceived better through human eyes. We suggest an algorithm that reduces block artifact and clears decoded video in decoder. To enhance encoding speed, we adopt new four-step search algorithm. As shown in the experimental result, the quality compensation provides better video quality because of reducing blocking artifact. And then new four-step search algorithm with $MMX^{TM}$ implementation improves encoding speed from 2.5 fps to 17 fps.

  • This paper presents the 3D wavelet based video compression system using quad-tree algorithm. The 3D wavelet based video compression system removes the temporal correlation of the input sequences using the motion compensation filter and decomposes the spatio-temporal subband using the spatial wavelet transform. The proposed system allocates the higher bit rate to the low frequency image of the 3D wavelet sequences and improves the 0.64dB PSNR performance of the reconstructed image in comparison with that of H.263. In addition to the limitation on the propagation of the motion compensation error by the 3D wavelet transform, the proposed system progressively transmits the input sequence according to the resolution and rate scalability.

  • Free viewpoint TV can provide multi-angle view point images for viewer needs. In the real world, But all angle view point images can not be captured by camera. Only a few any angle view point images are captured by each camera. Group of the captured images is called multi-view image. Therefore free viewpoint TV wants to production of virtual sub angle view point images form captured any angle view point images. Interpolation methods are known of this problem general solution. To product interpolated view point image of correct angle need to depth image of multi-view image. Unfortunately, multi-view video including depth image is necessary to develop a new compression encoding technique for storage and transmission because of a huge amount of data. Layered depth image is an efficient representation method of multi-view video data. This method makes a data structure that is synthesis of multi-view color and depth image. This paper proposed enhanced compression method using layered depth image representation and H.264/AVC video coding technology. In experimental results, confirmed high compression performance and good quality reconstructed image.

  • In our paper, We propose an efficient adaptive coding method using kohonen neural network. An efficient adaptive encoding method using Kohonen net work is discribed through the analysis of those compression methods with the application of the neural network. In order to increase the compression ratio, a image is first divided into 8*8 subimages, then all subimages are transformed by DCT. These DCT sub-blocks are divided into N(4) classes by Kohonen network. Hits are distributed according to the variance of the DCT sub-block. Thus we get N(4)bit allocation matrices. Excellent performance is shown by the computer simulation. so we found that our proposed method is better then classifing subimages by AC energy.

  • A correlation exists between luminance samples and chrominance samples of a color image. It is beneficial to exploit such interchannel redundancy for color image compression. We propose an algorithm that predicts chrominance components Cb and Cr from the luminance component Y. The prediction model is trained by supervised learning with Laplacian-regularized least squares to minimize the total prediction error. Kernel principal component analysis mapping, which reduces computational complexity, is implemented on the same point set at both the encoder and decoder to ensure that predictions are identical at both the ends without signaling extra location information. In addition, chrominance subsampling and entropy coding for model parameters are adopted to further reduce the bit rate. Finally, luminance information and model parameters are stored for image reconstruction. Experimental results show the performance superiority of the proposed algorithm over its predecessor and JPEG, and even over JPEG-XR. The compensation version with the chrominance difference of the proposed algorithm performs close to and even better than JPEG2000 in some cases.

  • H.264/AVC is an international video coding standard that is established in cooperation with ITU-T VCEG and ISO/IEC MPEG, which shows improved code and efficiency than the previous video standards. Motion estimation using various macroblock from 44 to 1616 among the compression techniques of H.264/AVC contributes much to high compression efficiency. Generally, in the case of small motion vector or low complexity about P slice is decided $P16{\times}16$ mode encoding method. But according to circumstances, macroblock is decided $P16{\times}16$ mode despite large motion vector. If the motion vector variance is more than threshold and final select mode is $P16{\times}16$ mode, it is switched to $P8{\times}8$ mode, so this paper shows that the storage capacity is reduced. The results of experiment show that the proposed algorithm increases the compression efficiency of the H.264/AVC algorithm to 0.4%, even reducing the time and without increasing complexity.

  • This raper analyzes the effect of visually lossless image compression for efficient distribution of digital cinema. Currently, distribution of digital cinema is carried out based on JPEG 2000 standard that has been selected by DCI. We first summarize characteristics of JPEG 2000, and then define the concept of visually lossless coding that plays an important role in digital cinema distribution. We provide a test for JPEG 2000 compression performance according to DCI specification for visually lossless. Based on the experiment, the result satisfies high quality for cinema distribution.

  • Generative adversarial networks (GAN) have been successfully used in many image restoration tasks, including image denoising, super-resolution, and compression artifact reduction. By fully exploiting its characteristics, state-of-the-art image restoration techniques can be used to generate images with photorealistic details. However, there are many applications that require faithful rather than visually appealing image reconstruction, such as medical imaging, surveillance, and video coding. We found that previous GAN-training methods that used a loss function in the form of a weighted sum of fidelity and adversarial loss fails to reduce fidelity loss. This results in non-negligible degradation of the objective image quality, including peak signal-to-noise ratio. Our approach is to alternate between fidelity and adversarial loss in a way that the minimization of adversarial loss does not deteriorate the fidelity. Experimental results on compression-artifact reduction and super-resolution tasks show that the proposed method can perform faithful and photorealistic image restoration.
