  • Massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) is a promising approach for cellular communication due to its energy efficiency and high achievable data rate. These advantages, however, can be realized only when channel state information (CSI) is available at the transmitter. Since there are many antennas, CSI is too large to feed back without compression. To compress CSI, prior work has applied compressive sensing (CS) techniques and the fact that CSI can be sparsified. The adopted sparsifying bases fail, however, to reflect the spatial correlation and channel conditions or to be feasible in practice. In this paper, we propose a new sparsifying basis that reflects the long-term characteristics of the channel, and needs no change as long as the spatial correlation model does not change. We propose a new reconstruction algorithm for CS, and also suggest dimensionality reduction as a compression method. To feed back compressed CSI in practice, we propose a new codebook for the compressed channel quantization assuming no other-cell interference. Numerical results confirm that the proposed channel feedback mechanisms show better performance in point-to-point (single-user) and point-to-multi-point (multi-user) scenarios.

  • In this paper, we propose a non-convex compressed sensing(NCCS)-based channel state information(CSI) feedback scheme for massive multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) systems. Combining the random vector quantization(RVQ), the proposed scheme permits a transmitter to obtain CSI with acceptable accuracy under substantially reduced feedback load. Furthermore, it recovers CSI from fewer measurements than that of existing convex compressed sensing(CCS)-based schemes even if the measurements are inaccurate and incomplete. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves higher throughput than both existing CCS-based feedback scheme and random vector quantization(RVQ) feedback scheme with the same feedback load.

  • In this paper, a new compressive feedback (CF) scheme based on distributed compressed sensing (DCS) for time-corrected MIMO channel is proposed. First, the channel state information (CSI) is approximated by using a subspace matrix, then, the approximated CSI is compressed using a compressive matrix. At the base station, the approximated CSI can be robust recovered with simultaneous orthogonal matching pursuit (SOMP) algorithm by using forgone CSIs. Simulation results show our proposed DCS-CF method can improve the reliability of system without creating a large performance loss.

  • In this study, feedback logic using dual O2 sensor values were developed to increase the purification capability of a three-way catalyst (TWC) in a compressed natural gas (CNG) engine. A heavy-duty inline 6-cylinder engine was used and the CNG was supplied to the engine through a mixer. This study consists of two main parts, namely, the proportional integral (PI) control with a front O2 sensor and the feedback control with dual O2 sensors. In the PI control experiment, effects of various parameters, such as P gain, I gain, and lean delay, on the TWC capability were identified. Based on the results of the PI control experiment, the feedback logic using dual O2 sensor values were developed. In both cases, the nitrogen oxides (NOX) emissions were nearly zero. However, the carbon monoxide (CO) emissions were reduced significant in the feedback logic with dual O2 sensors than in the PI control with the front O2 sensor.

  • It is significant to construct deterministic measurement matrices with easy hardware implementation, good sensing performance and good cryptographic property for practical compressed sensing (CS) applications. In this paper, a deterministic construction method of bipolar chaotic measurement matrices is presented based on binary sequence family (BSF) and Chebyshev chaotic sequence. The column vectors of these matrices are the sequences of BSF, where 1 is substituted with -1 and 0 is with 1. The proposed matrices, which exploit the pseudo-randomness of Chebyshev sequence, are sensitive to the initial state. The performance of proposed matrices is analyzed from the perspective of coherence. Theoretical analysis and simulation experiments show that the proposed matrices have limited influence on the recovery accuracy in different initial states and they outperform their Gaussian and Bernoulli counterparts in recovery accuracy. The proposed matrices can make the hardware implement easy by means of linear feedback shift register (LFSR) structures and numeric converter, which is conducive to practical CS.

  • In this paper, we propose a compressed quantized channel state information (CQCSI) feedback scheme for multi-carrier mobile communication systems. The proposed CQCSI figures out the contiguous subsequences of equal QCSI's as separate types of runs across the subcarriers, and then encodes the types of runs using a truncated Huffman coding algorithm. Computer simulation shows that the proposed algorithm can reduce the QCSI feedback up to one tenth of the uncompressed, while providing a comparable performance with the conventional QCSI feedback schemes. To cope with special cases when the frequency selective fading is very high, we also propose a restricted CQCSI feedback scheme. The restricted CQCSI feedback has been proved under vehicular B channel model.

  • In this paper we consider the performance of TCP video traffic over ABR with Long-Range Dependent VBR traffic. As compressed coded video traffics are increasing rapidly over Internet, lots of studies are being done for transmitting those traffics efficiently using limited network resources. We consider here the transmitting video service over ABR service in ATM networks, especially satellite networks. CBR or VBR services are suggested in transmitting the video traffic in ATM Forum TM 4.0. But ABR service connection, which is considered as appropriate service for data traffic, can be established with a small amount of bandwidth, MCR (Minimum cell rate). Furthermore ABR service can control the source's transmitting rate using feedback mechanism. Using this feature ABR service can be used in some applications which can control their quality of services corresponding to network loads. Compressed video sources with MPEG-2 are used for Long-Range Dependent VBR traffic here. We model the compressed video source to resemble the MPEG-2 transport streams. These compressed video traffic streams are consisted of three different frames, I-frame, P-frame, and B-frame. So when a network are overloaded, we can control the quality of service using this traffic features. TCP Traffics over ABR need large buffers in ATM switch to satisfy their QoS with background VBR traffics, which have high deviations in bandwidth. Furthermore satellite ATM networks with large feedback delay need large buffers corresponding RTT delay. The performance comparisons among EFCI and ER switch (ERICA+) switches in the network circumstances described above were shown in this paper. We also considered the case with ON-OFF VBR traffics.

  • As MPEG-2 is introduced, a new editing system that works at the compressed domain is required. It is efficient to paste the two different video sequences in the compressed domain, but after repeated pasting, the result sequence can violate MPEG-2 rate control algorithm. In other words, it causes the underflow of the buffer during the decoding time. The earlier study inserted an additional fade-in sequence but it is not natural when we make a program. In this paper, a nobel method using requantization of the underflow sequence is presented.

  • We have developed fully functional Video Server and Client applications which can transmit, receive, decompress and display compressed video over various networks. Our video trans-port allows dynamic rate control feedback, loss detection, and repair requests from Clients to the Server. Our experiments show how feedvack-before-degradation scheme for rate adaptation maintains good display frame-rate for video playback. We show how the playback degradation(reduction in display frame-rate) oc-curs and what happens if corrective measures are not taken to im-prove the situation. The degradation is attributed to the increased internal kernel buffering which consumes scarce CPU resources. We demontrate with our experimental results that ServerNet, with improved hardware delivery guarantees, can significantly reduce host CPU resource consumption while serving video streams. We present the maximum number of streams which can be served for each of ATM and ServerNet interconnects. The appropriate user-level packet size for the video server are also determined for each case.

  • A compressive sensing based iterative scheme for reducing both the impulsive noise as well as the clipping noise is proposed for OFDM-based communication systems. Nonlinear blanking using adaptive thresholds is used in the 1st stage followed by two consecutive compressive sensing based detection with the aid of decision feedback for reducing the BER gradually. Our simulation results revealed an SNR gain of 4.5dB at the BER of $10^{-5}$.
