This study was executed to evaluate the utilization and efficiency of the ceramic biocarrier as the promoter of decomposing on the organic matters for the composting using with pig manure by analyzing of the physico-chemical properties during composting. The treatments of this experiment were consisted of the control(C),microorganism(M), M with natural zeolite(M+Z), M with synthesized zeolite(M+SZ), and M with ceramic biocarrier(M+CZ). The process term of composting was conducted for 30days in the rapidly fermented machine(as pilot system). The results of the physico-chemical properties of the composts were as follows. The changes of temperature during composting was not relative with the microorganism and zeolite materials used in the composts. At all of the treatments were similar to changing of temp. from the initial stage to the final stage. But the added microorganism treatments were higher than control. And the entire pH value of treatments were appeared the same that above temperature result, also the M+CZ and M+SZ treatment among the treatment were higher. At the results of T-C, T-N and C/N ratio, in case of T-C value, the M+CZ treatment was highly more decreased than others. However at the T-N value, there were not the differences from the each treatment. And the C/N ratio was changed according to the changes of T-C and T-N value. Especially, at the M+CZ aud M+SZ treatments were remarkably reduced by about 21.4-23.3 value. In the result of G.I for evaluating of the compost humidity, the M+CZ and M+SZ treatments were close up approximately 110 value compared with the control(G.I value 100). Therefore, the examined ceramic biocarrier amended with compost-promoting-bacteria could be applied to the production of many high quality fertilizers. It is also expected that the results of this researches could be applied to the recycle of the organic wastes based on the experimental results of ceramic biocarrier and compost-promoting-bacteria application.
This study was conducted to investigate the possibility of composting of household garbage. The composter with the double layer walls was operated for 60 days in each season. The following results were obtained at the end of the experiment, if the time was not specified. 1) The maximum temperature was $31^{\circ}C$ in spring, $36^{\circ}C$ in summer and $50^{\circ}C$ in winter. 2) The mass was reduced to an average of 58.5%. 3) pH values of the compost were 8.21 in spring, 8.29 in summer and 7.94 in winter. 4) The ash contents were 55.8% in spring, 57% in summer and 73.8% in winter. 5) The nitrogen contents were in the range of $0.2{\sim}5.8%$. Its values were the highest in winter and the lowest in summer. 6) Inorganic contents of the compost were in the range of : $P_2O_5$ ; $1.5{\sim}4.41%$, $K_2O$ ; $0.02{\sim}1.31%$, CaO $0.13{\sim}1.68%$ and MgO $0.05{\sim}1.22%$. 7) Heavy metal contents of the compost were in the range of : Zn ; $13{\sim}89mg/kg$, Cu ; $4{\sim}62mg/kg$, Cd ; $1{\sim}21mg/kg$, Pb ; $N.D.{\sim}97mg/kg$, Cr ; $N.D.{\sim}37$ and Hg ; $N.D.{\sim}1.38mg/kg$.

This experiment was carried out to evaluate the effect of residual food compost application on plant growth and physicochemical properties of soil when residual food compost made from the composting process as part of organic waste recycling was applied in soil as variable rate. The treatments were composed non-fertilizer treatment, control treatment applied with pig compost $20Mg(D.W.)ha^{-1}$, and residual food compost treatments each of applied with 20, 40, 60, $80Mg(D.W.)ha^{-1}$ and were randomized complete block design with three replication. Soil pH after experiment was more increased as more increase application of residual food compost. Other chemical properties of soil including EC were also showed the similar results. The plant growth in treatments applied much of residual food compost at the early growth stage was very damaged and these results were proved at the first growth measurement. Production of the red pepper especially reduced in treatments taken growth demage at the early stage and that of $20Mgha^{-1}$ treatment almost same as control treatment. Bulk density was reduced but porosity was increased according to increase of residual food compost application. Considering the reduction of red pepper production and the demage of growth at the early stage by plenty of salt and water soluble application volume of residual food compost was not permitted over of $30Mgha^{-1}$. Additively, to settle the application volume of residual food compost and to evaluate the plant growth and changes of physicochemical properties of soil, the results taken from continual applying is concluded more important than single application.

Composting is a biological method used to transform the organic waste into stable, humified organic amendments. Humification is indicated as the key factor in improving the quality of compost, because of the importance of humic substances to soil ecology, fertility and structure, and their beneficial effects on plant growth The compost constituents vary widely, however, the degree of maturity is very important factor in compost quality. So this experiment carried out to determine the rapid estimation of the quality in cattle, pig, chicken and waste composts using near infrared reflectance spectroscopy(NIRS). Near infrared reflectance spectra of composts was obtained by Infra Alyzer 500 scanning spectrophotometer at 2-nm intervals from 1100 to 2500nm. Multiple linear regression(MLR) or partial least square regression (PLSR) was used to evaluate a NIRS method for the rapid and nondestructive determination of humic acid contents in composts. The results summarized that NIR spectroscopy can be used as a routine testing method to determine quantitatively the humic acid content in the compost samples ondestructively. Especially, we supposed that absorbance around 2300nm is related to humic acid as a factor of compost maturity. However the NIR absorption approach is empirical, it actually requires many combinations of samples and data manipulations to obtain optimal prediction.
Soil physico-chemical properties and microbial densities are affected by organic sources and soil amendment applied to improve soil environments or quality. Generally organic fertilizer effects on forage crops yield and soil properties are partly due to changes of soil composition. We investigated the effects of swine slurry (SS), swine slurry composting-biofilteration(SCB) and chemical fertilizer(F) with gypsum(G) combinations on soil physico-chemical properties and yields of summer forage crop in the Sukmoon reclaimed tidal land in Korea. The forage crops used in this experiment were corn and sorghum$\times$sudangrass hybrid(hereafter sorghum). Our results showed that the soil physico-chemical properties in the combined (F+G, SS+G, SCB+G) treatments increased contents of organic matter and exchangeable $Ca^{2+}$, but exchangeable $Na^+$, $K^+$ and $Mg^{2+}$ reduced to 1-10% for two forage crops, compared to non-combined (F, SS, SCB) treatment. The density of soil microorganism such as bacteria, actinomycetes and fungi, increased significantly by SS+G and SCB+G treatments. This means that treatment of combined organic fertilizer with G lowered salinity levels and improved with microbial growth. The combined treatments also increased the total yields 2.3-6.2% for corn and 2.0-8.7% for sorghum, compared with non-combined treatment. This experiment suggests the combined treatments could increase the total yields of summer forage crops and change of soil physico-chemical properties in the Sukmoon reclaimed tidal land in Korea.
This experiment has been conducted to find out a effective decomposition method of popped rice hulls which are hard to be decomposed in vitro. It was found that the C/N ratio of 35 was better than the C/N ratio of 20 for improving the decomposition ratio of popped rice hulls. The addition of rice bran accelerated the decomposition of popped rice hulls. The real decomposition rate of popped rice hulls for 10 days was merely 8 percent. This poor decomposition ratio seemed to be come from the chemical constituent of rice hull which has 20 percent of silica content. It was considered that the addition of rice bran speeded up only the decomposition of bran itself by increasing the number of microorganisms. It was also observed that color changes developed from the decomposition of rice hulls proved not to be a yardstick for the degree of decomposition.
Most of total nitrogen in the surface soil exists in organic forms, of which amino acid-N is the major fraction. By-product fertilizers provide soil with humic substances, and humic acid is an essential component of humus. Amino acids(AAs) are easily converted to inorganic-N forms and thus play an important role in N fertility. This experiment was conducted to investigate the contents and distributions of AAs in humic acids which were extracted from the commercial by-product fertilizers of different composting materials. Total contents of AAs in humic acids ranged from 1.2 to 5.6%, of which neutral AAs were the highest with ranges of 0.8~4.5%. AAs contents in fertilizers composted from the plant residues such as leaf litter, sawdust and bark were in an order of neutral>acidic>basic AAs. In contrast, those from animal wastes, such as poultry and pig manures, were in an order of neutral>basic>acidic AAs. Distributions of total, acidic and neutral AAs were in the respective order of leaf litter>sawdust>pig manure>poultry manure>peat, bark>sawdust>leaf litter>peat and leaf litter>sawdust>bark>peat. Distributions of the basic AAs were in the reversed order of the acidic AAs. In bark fertilizer with increasing compost maturity, contents of the acidic AAs were increased in compensation for the decreases in those of neutral and basic AAs. Results demonstrated that distributions of amino acids in humic acid of by-product fertilizers were different from composting raw materials and degrees of humification.
With increased utilization of chemical fertilizer, soil fertility is getting serious problem. As a result, using organic soil conditioner (woody wastes or sawdust compost) would be only solution to recover soil vitality. In this study, manufacturing and characteristics of organic soil conditioner from Shiitake bedlogs (woody wastes) were studied. Also, to investigate the effect of continuous application of this bedlog compost on growth of plants, growth tests for radish and tree seedlings were done. The results are as follows ; Analytical results of decayed and fresh wood materials showed almost same as its wood components. The mixing ratio of raw materials with the other filling materials is essential for the manufacturing as well as good quality of its compost during composting process. In this experiment, mixing 12kg of urea, 25kg of lime, 40kg of chicken shit, and small amount of fermentation aids corresponding to I ton of sawdust resulted in good composts. Their moisture contents were adjusted to about 55%. Temperature of pile, in composting process, rose after I week and kept about above $60^{\circ}C$ for certain period. They were turned two times, 30th and 59th day, respectively, after piling. This bedlog compost contained 81.7% of high organic matter, 1.4% of a little nitrogen, 6.75 of pH and 25 - 30 of C/N ratio. There were no harmful effect on germination and growth of plants, such as radish and softwood and hardwood seedlings. Concerned to the effect of bedlog compost on soil temperature, the compost did not affect plant growth by changing soil temperature abruptly, but compensated the soil temperature such as a little increasing on the early morning, a little decreasing on the mid-day or afternoon (pm 2:00), and increasing on the early evening (pm 6:00).

This test established the bioavailability and sample input by mixing the maintaining the microbial machine parts and food waste leachates in weight of 2:1 as advanced experiment, maintaining the constant temperature, agitating and observing its weight and property change for 60 hours. And, I injected daily the established microbial machine parts and food waste leachates rate, maintained the temperature in the reactor with $55{\sim}65^{\circ}C$, and agitated with constant speed. I studied the recycling possibility of food waste leachates by extracting the sample after 24 hours, verifying its characteristics, and repeating the food waste leachates input and sample extraction for about 40 days. Considering all about the results of this study, I saw that 87.32% of food waste leachates was reduced, and the solid of bluebug or food included in the food waste leachates was decomposed within 24 hrs. pH for 43 days after 9 days of stabilization period was maintained from 3.7~3.9 and the ignition loss from 88.67~87.3%, and the quantity of organic matter from 77.6~80.88%. With the similar result daily maintained, it is considered to progress more the minimization by inputting the future food waste leachates. C/N rate satisfies the less than 25 that is the composting basis within 8 days, maintaining between 13~15, with 2% of salt not exceeded, it is able to recycle as the compost of food waste leachates as based on the composting with no extracted heavy metal content.
This study was carried out in order to reduce the amount of sawdust for recycling the generated manure from livestock farms, and to investigate the effects on the reducing usage of sawdust and quality of produced compost. To do this, a cylindrical horizontal composting device were used in the experiments and compost was analyzed for judging produce compost quality. The experiment was carried out separately under different cases of operational control conditions. The first case was produced by using sawdust and pig manure mixture(Test-1); the second case was produced by using sawdust, pig manure and the previously produced compost(Test-2). In the second case, Except for some heavy metal content, The water content and C/N ratio were found to be suitable for fertilizer process specification of the RDA(Rural Development Administration) and it was found to reduce the sawdust 1.25tons usage.
