We present a practical design algorithm for quantizers at nodes in distributed systems in which each local measurement is quantized without communication between nodes and transmitted to a fusion node that conducts estimation of the parameter of interest. The benefits of vector quantization (VQ) motivate us to incorporate the VQ strategy into our design and we propose a low-complexity design technique that seeks to assign vector codewords into sets such that each codeword in the sets should be closest to its associated local codeword. In doing so, we introduce new distance metrics to measure the distance between vector codewords and local ones and construct the sets of vector codewords at each node to minimize the average distance, resulting in an efficient and independent encoding of the vector codewords. Through extensive experiments, we show that the proposed algorithm can maintain comparable performance with a substantially reduced design complexity.

In this paper, we propose a new nearest-neighbor classifier with reduced computational complexity in search process. In the proposed classifier, the classes are divided into two sets: reference and non-reference sets. It reduces computational requriement by approximating the distance between the input and a class iwth the information of distances among the calsses. It calculates only the distance between the input and the reference classes. We convert a given classifier into RCC (reduced computational complexity but smal lincrease in misclassification probability of its corresponding RCC classifier. We designed RCC classifiers for the recognition of digits from the NIST database. We obtained an RCC classifier with 60% reduction in the computational complexity with the cost of 0.5% increase in misclassification probability.
In this paper, we propose a novel on-demand multicasting algorithm, 'Durable Distance Vector Multicasting(DDVM),' for Mobile Ad hoc Network(MANET). DDVM has a more efficient routing-control complexity than Link State Routing(LSR) and with the smaller complexity, DDVM provides a high delivery ratio for MANET with high mobility by adapting to dynamic topological changes. This is achieved by adding 'combined path durability' statistic into the routing-control information of Distance Vector Routing(DVR). The routing-path duration statistic is computed in a fully distributed manlier at each node in the network based on only local information from neighbour nodes. We show by simulation studies the effectiveness of DDVM compared with On-demand Multicast Routing Protocol(ODMRP).

The ${\kappa}$-error linear complexity is a ky measure of the stability of the sequences used in the areas of communication systems, stream ciphers in cryptology and so on. This paper introduces an efficient algorithm to determine the ${\kappa}$-error linear complexity and the corresponding error vectors of $p^m$-periodic binary sequences, where : is a prime and 2 is a primitive root modulo $p^2$. We also give a new sense about the ${\kappa}$-error linear complexity in viewpoint of coding theory instead of cryptographic results. We present an efficient algorithm for decoding binary cyclic codes of length $p^m$ and derive key properties of the minimum distance of these codes.

In this work, an efficient transmit antenna selection approach for the quadrature spatial modulation (QSM) systems is proposed. The conventional Euclidean distance antenna selection (EDAS)-based schemes in QSM have too high computational complexity for practical use. The proposed antenna selection algorithm is based on approximation of the EDAS decision metric employed for QSM. The elimination of imaginary parts in the decision metric enables decoupling of the approximated decision metric, which enormously reduces the complexity. The proposed method is also evaluated via simulations in terms of symbol error rate (SER) performance and compared with the conventional EDAS methods in QSM systems.

We consider transmit antenna selection combined with power allocation for quadrature spatial modulation (QSM) systems to improve the error rate performance. The Euclidean distance-based joint optimization criterion is presented for transmit antenna selection and power allocation in QSM. It requires an exhaustive search and thus high computational complexity. Thus its reduced-complexity algorithm is proposed with a strategy of decoupling, which is employed to successively find transmit antennas and power allocation factors. First, transmit antennas are selected without considering power allocation. After selecting transmit antennas, power allocation factors are determined. Simulation results demonstrate considerable performance gains with lower complexity for transmit antenna selected QSM systems with power allocation, which can be achieved with limited rate feedback.

In continuous speech recognition system, it is possible to implement the system which can handle unlimited number of words by using limited number of phonetic units such as phonemes. Dividing continuous speech into the string of tems of phonemes prior to recognition process can lower the complexity of the system. But because of the coarticulations between neiboring phonemes, it is very difficult ot extract exactly their boundaries. In this paper, we propose the algorithm ot extract short terms which can represent each phonemes instead of extracting their boundaries. The short terms of lower spectral change and higher spectral chang eare detcted. Then phoneme changes are detected using distance measure with this lower spectral change terms, and hgher spectral change terms are regarded as transition terms or short phoneme terms. Finally lower spectral change terms and the mid-term of higher spectral change terms are regarded s the represent each phonemes. The cepstral coefficients and weighted cepstral distance are used for speech feature and measuring the distance because of less computational complexity, and the speech data used in this experimetn was recoreded at silent and ordinary in-dorr environment. Through the experimental results, the proposed algorithm showed higher performance with less computational complexity comparing with the conventional segmetnation algorithms and it can be applied usefully in phoneme-based continuous speech recognition.

We consider quantization optimized for distributed estimation, where a set of sensors at different sites collect measurements on the parameter of interest, quantize them, and transmit the quantized data to a fusion node, which then estimates the parameter. Here, we propose an iterative quantizer design algorithm with a weighted distance rule that allows us to reduce a system-wide metric such as the estimation error by constructing quantization partitions with their optimal weights. We show that the search for the weights, the most expensive computational step in the algorithm, can be conducted in a sequential manner without deviating from convergence, leading to a significant reduction in design complexity. Our experments demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves improved performance over traditional quantizer designs. The benefit of the proposed technique is further illustrated by the experiments providing similar estimation performance with much lower complexity as compared to the recently published novel algorithms.

This paper proposes a low complexity frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) surveillance radar algorithm. In the conventional surveillance radar systems, the two dimensional (2D) fast Fourier transform (FFT) method is usually employed in order to detect the distance and velocity of the targets. However, in a surveillance radar systems, it is more important to immediately detect the presence or absence of the targets, rather than accurately detecting the distance or speed information of the target. In the proposed algorithm, in order to immediately detect the presence or absence of targets, 1D FFT is performed on the first and M-th bit signals among a total of M beat signals and then a phase change between two FFT outputs is observed. The range of target is estimated only when the phase change occurs. By doing so, the proposed algorithm achieves a significantly lower complexity compared to the conventional surveillance scheme using 2D FFT. In addition, show in order to verify the performance of the proposed algorithm, the simulation and the experiment results are performed using 24GHz FMCW radar module.

This paper proposes a hierarchical Hausdorff distance (HD) matching algorithm baased on coarse-to-fine approach. It reduces the computational complexity greatly by using the pyramidal structures consisting of distance transform (DT) and edge pyramids. Also, inthe proposed hierarchical HD matching, a thresholding method is presented to find an optimal matching position with small error, in which the threshold values are determined by using the property between adjacent level of a DT map pyramid. By computer simulation, the performance of the conventional and proposed hierarchical HD matching algorithms is compared in therms of the matching position for binary images containing uniform noise.
